godot games are notoriously buggy, at least on steam they get a lot more negative reviews that talk about weird crashes than other engines
especially 3d games or spine games for some reason
>>528687940>I was here this time to get itNICE
>>528687780 (OP)You might have stolen ussao's game idea but you will never have a black fat arse like her.
>>528688303what is my blud waffling about
>>528688097im not surpised on the weird engines really, especially on older devices their openGL support isnt amazing, you have to build godot in opengl mode todo it
i think another issue is on the userbase too, godot is the free option so their budget for testing on different devices might be limitted
Check out my main menu! It's starting to fill up with stuff, which feels nice. It looks a lot more "real" somehow.
I also added 30 achievements. I can easily pump out more, and probably will but I'm happy with this number. I don't think many people really care that much about them, but it was a fun experiment of porting code (which worked great).
Do you think players enjoy achievements? I can never really tell.
>>528687940Also Jesus Chris man, what version of blender are you using? Your layout is a complete labyrinth.
>>528688494can you please make all three menu buttons the same size? Thank you
>>528687940Sir, kindly do the needful to include the licensing terms for the asset, thank you.
Why is Godot full of satanist pedo trannies? Who don't make games or program but instead just talk about tranny and degenerate shit?
Was watching the Branno vid, looks like he noticed the same thing as me. You're basically competing against games that got treated as a live service getting updates for years all for a 1 time cost despite coming out years ago
>>528688905Everyone's fucking copying me
Should shooter games have headshots?
"The classics" didn't have headshots and everyone loves them
new thread so reposting if anyone can think oif a solution:
My physics gun pulls the object up letting me jump on it which pulls the object up up letting me..
Ideally Id like for the player to be able todo this once!
>>528688905please don't compare us to satanists and trannies, thanks.
>>528688905Public discord off-topic channels are full of literal 12 year olds.
If my game was a food it would be one of those cheap burgers you buy at the bus terminal when you are going to a medic consultation and are a bit late.
>>528689059million times better thank you anon
>>528689442Wrong. Those are edible in a pinch. Your game is not.
>>528688392That game is just Purge Your Sins by ussao but with guns. The dev even stole the original background, increased the red, and added a spining shader.
When do I get a cute cosplayer gf?
>>528689684Imagine being her dad...
>>528689394even nintendo cant solve it, if you just make the block you have nonsolid they'll just use another object to lift that one
>>528689351Only on select weapons. e.g. Only on sniper rifle equivalents and not shotgun equivalents.
>>528689684I'll let you know how long it takes when I get mine.
>>528689394You can do that on half life.

>>528689394Whenever you jump and you're standing ontop of a physics object, apply your jump's normal force onto the physics object.
>>528689684any girl that posts shit like this on the internet for everyone to see is terrible gf material
what genres get the most amount of attractive fangirls? perhaps the goal isnt for the game to make a lot of money but instead to get a fangirl gf?
>>528689684i need this as wife right now!

>>528687179>>528689394Excellent to see another aggy imsim.
I love propsurfing myself. I mostly patched it out but it's still sorta doable.
My solution was to disable dragging if the moved rigidbody is colliding with the player controller and if the interaction point is below the bottom of the player capsule.
This way, interaction is also disabled if you fall or walk on the object, intentionally or otherwise.
Can't wait for the youtube video essay on Osur's reign of terror

>>528689740im fine with this but it should be a bit harder to break
also Im using GODOT the jolt physics engine isnt that numerically stable so that will be unreliable
>>528689940>Whenever you jump and you're standing ontop of a physics object, apply your jump's normal force onto the physics object.Do you think this is overkill? To shit out multiple rays around the player when jumped and the grav guns been used and check if the players is ontop of the object then essentially force them down?
I did your method and give the player a push to the side to push them off the block, definitely a method to push you out of bounds which I dont mind but worried it could effect gameplay

playing hard feels harder to do than working hard. because to play hard you have to let go of fears.
>>528693018>Do you think this is overkill? It's like 3 extra lines of code when you jump.
It's kind of depressing that my agdg generation produced such irrelevant games that the most impressive and recognizeable game is Peripeteia which didn't even succeed that much. That's the cream of the crop when it comes to the people that I shared this place with. That's as good as it ever got during my tenure. Truly I live during the worst of times

i think my goal is to learn art to a degree so i can make every possible 2D or 3D asset i need. but i don't want to use pbr textures and i also don't want photorealism.
what i hate is that i have no idea where to start. i really feel like this is gonna take at least 10 years to learn.
and to do that you cannot make it a goal to learn art for gamedev, you actually have to enjoy art for art itself.
this creates a feeling of being hardstuck, yet at the same time i don't know what else to do. i really just want to quit gamedev, but i literally don't know what else, so i keep coming back.
i feel like there's no exit for this mental loop. my only exit strategy is doing nothing anymore and fully going neet.
if there are no shortcuts then i can't make a game. because the normal route is obviously too long.
agdg is a gay-ass shithole

Mech games are not inherentntly better games than a lot of other genres but because the mechafags bully other people out of the community other types of devs aren't going to hang around too long. This creates the narrative that the best agdg games are mech games even though they are not. It's mafia-like behaviour. I'm gooning to k-pop right now
>>528719147I would actually almost argue that survivor likes are actually asteriod likes. But the birth of survivor likes is just way too detached from the perspective of time. Literally think about it, top down view, just going around and shooting things until you die. Sure you have items, but it's basically asteroid. However it wasn't asteroid itself that inspired it.
Would any of you know how to release incremental versions of your game, like say you wanted to make it episodic, in Godot? I want to make this playable online and update it that way but I wasn't sure about rereleasing the game again and again on itch.io

Also I like kpop and I'm not trying to downplay it or anything. For reference the last show I saw Babymetal at a few months ago (Iknow technically not kpop but plays similar venues) was at a 4.5k capacity venue. Maybe 4x your average band shows capacity(like 1200). Only arenas hold 15k+ and Rose isn't playing arenas. According to google she's playing in chicago on july 8th at a place with a capacity of 3.5k and it's not going to sell out at all.

>my whole point is recent pop music trends have way more popularity than classicsBased on what? More people being alive? The Internet existing? I would say recent pop music trends aren't even more popular than pop was in the late 90s/early 00's. Pop isn't even the biggest performers right now as another anon mentioned Metallica is regularly playing stadiums out and so are Rammstein and other big bands. I think I'm in a unique situation and don't know how to proceed further.
I've been working on this sandbox type game and recently a youtuber/streamer has started playing it.
even since they started playing it I've received a decent bump in downloads and even a couple of donations (my game is free on itchio).
the guy who played my game is a well enough pretty stand up guy but I want to know the best course of action from here on out.
so far this guy is giving my game some decent advertisement and I'm hoping more people with a following will play it too.
should I bend to them by making stuff in game, easter eggs or item that references them, pander to them stuff like that?
I usually wouldn't sellout like this but if I can make this project be fotm, I really want to rake in as much cash as possible, assuming it does become fotm, nevertheless that's too high a bar to expect but if I can gain some more fans I might have to take it.
thoughts on this situation? I feel like this is a slippery slope towards what VoTV became, a streamerbait pandering environment that lost most of it's genuineness.
and what are your guys' thoughts on Voice of The Void?
>>528715678>>528714746Let me explain my intent with the soundtrack.
I'm pulling a psuedo-DMC5 (Only thing I could think of off the top of my head) where the music changes as you get better.
The point is that depending on your rank in a combat encounter, the music gets more instruments added to it, eventually forming something that sounds "Stronger" if that makes sense. Like, the music gets less horror-y the better you're doing in combat, with the horror parts getting drowned out.
>Start: Breathing>D: Chanting>C: Drum beat that sounds like a heartbeat>B: ?>A: ?>S: A sort of rhythmic metallic "Clicking" >SS: Heavy bass hits >SSS: VocalsOr something like that

>>528729739>>528729618Shit, I forgot to add this part. What I know I should do is to start out with a slower, plodding backing beat that I slowly add faster and faster instruments to, where that unsettling beat just becomes the backing track to the asswhooping.
>>528729530>should I bend to them by making stuff in game, easter eggs or item that references them, pander to them stuff like that?dont pander to the streamer, pander to the streamers audience... whatever it is this persons gimmick is that reels in viewers, make more whatever that allows them to easily do more of that.

>>528744542Did you use the internet 10 years ago?
It used to be common in public spaces like 4chan and reddit to see people casually chime in about working on major creative projects. There used to be a far smaller gap between consumer and producer, whereas now that gap is enormous. The bigger this gap is, the more skill required by new creators in trying to reach the other side and make great art.
>>528744404Many steamfags suffer from Tim derangement syndrome.
The new EDF got review bombed for prompting the user it was creating an EOS account.
Shit though you must have had to -create- an epic account to play the game right? So it was a justified review bomb, yeah? WRONG.
It was just a prompt letting users know it was creating a dummy account to connect to the Epic online service which thousands of games on steam do in the background.
Any game that uses easy anti-cheat or the EOS does this but because steam users were informed of the process and they saw the word "Epic" they went ballistic.
Does anyone have advice on sound? I feel like this is ignored.

>>528744440Because the internet went from many niche websites were experts talked about stuff to a few giant social media websites. These sites are engineered for quick replies people post in 5 seconds on their phone without thinking. Search engines only show SEO sites riddled with ads to make money out of you clicking the search result. The amount of people using the internet now is extremely large so there's a million newbies talking about a topic for every person with experience.
So: theres no place to talk about anything. People don't gather in places where they could talk. Even if such place it is hidden, if it's not hidden it is overflown by people who don't know what they are saying shitposting on their phone from the toilet. Furthermore about the design of your guys code. I've essentially been routing everything through a massive event bus. I have a manager and a controller for just about everything. >>528746638Iโm big on writing tests when working professionally, but for my solo gamedev project canโt really bring myself to do it. I think a lot of the value lies in the fact that OTHERS can run the tests to figure if they screwed up anything badly when changing code that somebody else wrote.
Also gamedev is very visual, you basically see all the code on screen when you play, so manual testing comes easy. At the same time, there are many arbitrarily tuned numbers (how fast does the player turn? how much damage does this weapon deal?) and itโs a hassle to write tests that donโt have to be adjusted whenever you tune those numbers, while still catching other issues.
I do write tests for very algo-heavy problems where thorough optimization is required, so I can be sure the optimized version still covers all cases, without playing for 2 hours every time.

Thats the history of how it blew it up. I think what the dev adds isnt just
>aster eggs or item that references them, pander to them stuff like thatIts interactive objects that the streamer can explore for Whhhaacckkkyyy effects. He giving the streamer a toolbox to craft a story, while the dev changes the playing field often

Since May 2023 (about the time I started frequenting this place) I've been on 44 dates. None of those women have given me anything more than a hug and a cheek kiss. So it's a total loss.
44 dates x $100 on average = $4400.
44 dates x 3 hours of my time on average = 132 hours x $25/hour = $3300.
So I've wasted $7700 on something worse than worthless.
For that money I could have bought:
- 77 Steam submission fees, or
- enough assets to never need to make any assets myself, or
- 2 months of not having to go to work, like for a final polishing/bugfixing sprint before releasing my game, or
- 6 months of living in a cheap South East Asian country where I could focus full-time on my game, or
- a kick ass mobile workstation to work anywhere, and a high end monitor and keyboard for when I'm at home, or

Can some anon help me understand the winding order for Meshes in Unity. From other anons on the Unity forums and from instructors I've been told that the winding order is supposed to go in a counter-clockwise order, but when I implement that order in Unity I get the back-face of the triangle instead of the front-face. (see picrel).
I now found this chapter in the Unity manual "Create a quad mesh via script" which states that I should use a clockwise winding order when setting the vertices. https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/Example-CreatingaBillboardPlane.html#:~:text=The%20ordering%20is%20important%20because%20you%20must%20order%20the%20corners%20clockwise

the winding direction defines the normal component of the surface. Its defined as counter clockwise twist because of the right hand rule:

>>528748769 says its half tests after and half tests before for me - if I write them at all.
Depends on what you're doing, if the game is systems heavy having a robust suite of tests allows you to be 100% sure that everything works even if you fiddle with it. For example I'm making a game where a lot of units navigate and avoid each other, so I made some utility functions for computing free paths and such. These are separate from the engine and thus easily testable, just a function with input and output. Once I had some basic working prototype I moved to tests. I started with the cases I knew about and I as I was writing the tests I noticed various edge cases for which I added tests and if they were failing I fixed the code. This was way easier that booting the game and trying to get to each edge case at runtime. On the other hand it rarely makes sense to write tests for highly abstract game mechanics or such.
Also this is a good point

>>528769631> Theres a difference between hidden gameplay elements which help the player have an enjoyable experience VS yellow paint game designGames already did that in the past. There was a beginner mode, which restricts you to fewer stages and different enemy patterns/scenarios to help to get in the grove.
And the original difficulty curve was designed to transcend the player into an enlightened being. At that point, the gameplay your are experience cannot be understood by a mere spectator, the game achieves peak interactive medium status, i.e, you can only experience it if you play it, watching a youtuber play it is useless and boring.
>>528769736Explaining the mechanics to the player is fine, but you shouldn't design entire stages around it. What happens if a game clicked for you and you loved it, and now you wanna replay it? You have to slog through boring stages designed for new players. But why explain the inner nature of your game? It's something that needs to be interacted with, the player need to explore its nuances and in return the game will reward him with information to go further.
This extends to all aspects of game design, even UI. For example, people still love the original X-COM, but the moment you try to streamline the user interface, turns execution, etc it becomes a shell.

>>528763726>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winding_numberI appreciate it but these are two different concepts and does not relate to one another in terms of mesh generation.
Winding number is the number of times a curve goes around a point.
Winding order is a descriptor for which order the vertices are listed in.
>>528780665>Winding number is the number of times a curve goes around a point.>Winding order is a descriptor for which order the vertices are listed in.True statements.
In mathematical jargon: The orientation encoded in a curve's winding determines normal vector directions, which can contribute to constructing oriented coordinate systems. This a method to define "inside" and "outside" of sets.
In english: Both use the same mechanism when you define vertices in a particular order you are creating an oriented surface polygon. The winding order defines the "front facing" (outside). The reason it works is because you are working on a topological space. So the winding number works.
In a sense its the "natural" way to create an oriented surface. However ignore the mathematics and focus on the right hand rule or the left hand rule then stick to it
>in terms of mesh generation.Yeah mathematical foundation doesnt matter lmao
