Without getting into too much spoilers, before I commit to potentially putting 50+ more hours into this, are ANY of the endings actually satisfying?
I've finally reached the "end" of my "second" playthrough (where you're finally able to make choices and shit. First I accidentally stumbled into the Eve route which I guess was my first actual ending but it was so sudden, accidental and poorly written that I don't count it, but now I finished the Rebellion route and its what-ifs/branches (I didn't side with Humanity at all) and I'm already noticing a really bad pattern that I thought was just a problem of the Eve route but carried over into the final parts of the where after the final choices, where major things happen off screen, are explained to you and just kind of end, and major character motivations or characters' ability to actually reason just kind of change or disappear.
With the end of the Rebellion route I was so fucking ready for humanity to come down now that there were no Commanders left stopping their progress, no Shion to power the Revive-O-Matic, and just start blowing everybody up and killing everybody with high-tech weaponry forcing Takumi to go back in time. Instead you just... beat Vexhness, make a choice between saving Nozomi or that alien loli, and instead of getting an actual epilogue you simply get a new CG and like 5 lines. In the alien loli's case, which is probably the least disappointing ending I've gotten, you literally fucking timeskip 15 years and it explains to you over the course of two or three lines what happened.
There's such a huge disconnect in the quality of the endings I've gotten so far compared to the rest of the game. Do any of the other endings/routes get better than this?

Shion's sacrifice was played up for 10+ hours as going to be a huge fucking thing and in the end Eito and Takumi absorb his Cryptoglobin and it only takes three clicks of the enter key to progress beyon that scene.
Don't get me started on how everybody just trusts Eito in the blink of the eye because actually exploring that dynamic in a meaningful way would take too much effort.

Because I still didn't forget the ending of the original playthrough where the rocket comes back down and you can hear the cast freaking out suggesting the Artificial Satellite or Mankind isn't what they seem, but that never came up in my playthrough, even with the 15 year timeskip where humanity supposedly landed on Futurum and got BTFO and forced to submit to a united Futurum.
Forgive the food anology, but the Rebellion ending feels like you ordered a steak dinner with mashed potatoes and veggies and they just came out with only the steak, veggies, and a piece of paper telling you what the mashed potatoes would have tasted like if it were actually there.

At the end of the day, the story has to offer you SOMETHING. There has to be some reason for reading it beyond "it's a story and it exists". Crazy plot twists are one type of thing the story might offer you, but it's not the only possible thing.
A story might instead offer, say, deep and interesting character writing. Did HL do that? No not really. Instead it repeated the same joke about Kurara's curry dozens of times and the same joke about Kyoshika fucking her sword dozens of times. We're not exactly dealing with high literature here.
So yeah, in the absence of deep characters and interesting worldbuilding or anything like that, it does fall to the "crazy plot twists" to keep readers entertained. And when those plot twists turn out to be subpar rehashes of twists from other sci-fi stories and the author's past work, people will rightfully complain.
Plot twists are often called a hallmark of "kitsch" (pop art, "low" art) by philosophers and literary theorists because they have precisely the effect that you describe. They're like a drug, you need the next twist to get crazier, and crazier and crazier, to stay entertained, but each twist is ultimately a hollow experience that provides only one moment of satisfaction before its burned out; it has no deeper meaning or relationship to anything outside itself.
One thing the story COULD have offered is a reflection on the real-world political and philosophical questions (particularly related to the ethics of war and colonialism, and the nature of racial identity as it relates to the whole Futuran clone thing) that its story raised, but the types of people who write anime stories usually aren't smart enough to think at that level, and their consumers would get upset if the story actually asked them to think critically anyway.

These are serious philosophical questions which have longstanding roots in the history of philosophy. Which already puts it ahead of most other anime stories, because it at least had A concept in mind and it executed on that concept ("what if humans had to do something really bad to another species to survive, ooo spooky" is not a "concept"). Did it explore those questions with the same depth and subtlety that Nietzsche did? No certainly not. But it did tie its literal narrative content and internal character conflicts to its formal structure in a way that was clever and enjoyable, so, it gets a pass in my book.
