Amy had a genuine schizophrenic meltdown in Sonic Battle because she thought Rouge and Sonic were playing parents with Emerl. In-universe she had a mental breakdown that resulted in her fighting with Sonic's spirit to defeat Rouge (She still lost. Rouge is too strong for Amy).
Amy doesn't hate Rouge, but she hates Sonouge.
Rouge also knows. Rouge had it basically drilled into her head in Sonic battle that Amy fears the possibility of her dating Sonic. Rouge thinks it's funny that this aggressive little girl is that scared.
The truth is that Rouge has no desire to fuck Sonic. She thinks he's handsome at most, but she will play into that just to rile Amy up.

cool franchise all about action and adventure and beating bad guys and being cool and awesome. romance is not, and never will be, important ever.
leading female character exists as a core character in the main group, her primary role and focus is SPECIFICALLY romance and love between her and the main protagonist.
the main protagonist does not care about, or focus on, love and romance, because the focal point of the series is the cool action and adventure and the battles against evil.
the girl character embodies love and romance, and makes it the most important thing in the whole series that was designed to NOT have romance as a priority at all in any way ever.
it is a paradox. like my hero academia not being about romance at all because the focus is saving lives and beating bad guys, but ochaco uraraka's entire story arc and character and final battle revolves around how much she loves deku, and her main rival is a girl who also loves deku and ochaco and has a whole complex with her own expression of love being weird to everyone else. and so the final ending for mha has to resolve ochaco's "love-focused" character role by having her finally get with deku, but only after all the "i wanna be a hero" stuff (the ACTUAL main plotline and theme) is resolved entirely first.
one of sonic the hedgehog's core defining character traits is that he is so free-spirited, that he'd never settle down for a relationship. so having a girlfriend/love-interest character does not fit him at all, and never will. in spite of this, amy rose exists, and she has to exist, because she as the girlfriend/love-interest character DOES fit sonic's character and always will. sonic is mickey mouse, he needs his minnie mouse, amy rose has to exist. and her entire character is centered entirely on love and romance and stuff, things sonic doesn't care to have anything to do with. mirroring the clash between these concepts within franchises like this, all over the place.

The same can't be said for IDW since the comic desperately wants to be canon, but it's completely impossible when the comic series is perpetually stuck in the Sonic Forces time period. Also it's impossible to ignore IDW Sonic, since Twitter and other sites are filled with IDW fans or at least mention one of the OCs.
A few threads ago an anon asked me if I really thought Ian and Evan could do anything interesting with Whisper at this point now that Mimic is gone and to that all I have to say is that it's neither of them I'm thinking about. Now that Whisper has shed the baggage, she's as much as a game ready character as Tangle. She has a state of status quo now. Sure she still has her Mimic backstory, but it won't be integral to knowing why she's existing in any story anymore. So now if (and when they get into the games considering the Crossworlds leaks) she's much more flexible of a character and I want to see what SOJ would do with her. A Whisper who will sadly still be written by Ian, but is supervised by the game team. We have a glimpse of that already in the roblox game, her thing will just be serving the wisp gameplay function and being their protector.
Anyone else feel like part of the reason the series is in the state it's in is because it's written by people who aren't cool, the antithesis of what the series represents?

Evan?
Kishimoto?
None of them are cool, and the writing feels like it just appeals to their weird fantasies.

Look at Surge and Kit, their motivations are drastically different now than they once were. With Starline dead and them chilling out to find their own path, their current "thing" is just to be rivals to sonic and tails while trying to usurp them in being heroes. Don't have to know any of their prior baggage to understand them anymore. It'll exist, but that's over and done with.

Lets use that as a wildcard and have it revolve around a different specialty that gives each team a little bonus unique flair. For Amy, you can make you a weapons expert, maybe. That hammer is cool but it's close to Knuckles' power, so you can have her do gymnastics tricks with it. Honestly probably better to incorporate throwing Fortune Cards like in Frontiers as a replacement for the Fleetway crossbow, and balance her and Knuckles as long-range and short-range fighters.
And if the other teams return and add a new character,
Team Dark: adds Metal Sonic, as implied in the last cutscene, can now utilize his copy abilities.
Team Chaotix: of course it'd have to be another classic character, and while everyone associates Mighty with Chaotix, I think a revamped Fang would work well as the trick character (and they worked together sometimes in Fleetway I think).
Team Rose: we'd have to add two for Cream and Big since Amy graduated... or do we? I prppose the unthinkable and split Cheese as the Technique character, finally separating him from Cream. The new Speed character can be Blaze since she was in it in Archie and already has an Amy-like relationship with Cream (arguably an even better one) though the team may need to be renamed.
