The rose is more significant, more impactful, more meaningful, and beautiful (in a disturbed yet artistic way).
Itโs so annoying that people went so far in order to compel Toby Fox because they felt uncomfortable. This pisses me off so badlyโฆ Of course the rose implies SA, and that was a conscious artistic choiceโnot an endorsement of SA, nor an attempt to trigger as many people as possible.
Itโs so frustrating that video games are treated like this, as opposed to film or literature, which can tackle such topics and, guess what, help people deal with trauma.
Look how many books, films, TV series, etc. verse about Evil. The depiction of Evil in fiction is in no way something new, nor is it an exception. On the contrary, you will see more media centering around evil doers than heroic figures. One great example is Hannibal Lecter: he is the antagonistic force, yet he is the main character. His evil only works because it has multiple layers, itโs credible, and IT IS A MENACE TO ALL! If you, as a viewer, were not disturbed by him in any way, the heroine would not shine as greatly.
The same is true for DR: the actions of a good player versus what you do as a weird route player only amplify the good inside Kris (since they tried so hard to revert your actions).
Anyway, thatโs my 5 cents about it.
As much as people whined about the simple implication of SAโto the point in which Toby decided to remove it from the gameโI think his vision remains intact. And YES, this all still is meant to represent (as ambiguous as it is) SA.

If she is the prophesied hero, the girl who will find love, SHE DOES NOT GET THAT CHOICE. She is NOT choosing to be good, to change, she once again is being forced into it.
She will learn she is not the hero of the prophecy, that she isn't this important person like she wanted to be. And yet, she will CHOOSE to be better. She will choose to be a hero despite not being one of legend, and thus prove that you can choose who you are in this world. You don't need to be foretold across space and time, you don't need to be ordained by god or gaster, you just need to be determined. You just need to make the choice.

I think "ERAM" / the mantle boss straight up is FRIEND. He was manipulating King for all of chapter 1 so we didn't see his smile lurking around yet. Why does he fly away at the end of ch1? For the same reason he looks like ENDOGENY in chapter 3. He is The Dark, or perhaps, a NightMARE. He can take any shape the mind could possibly conjure. He isn't bound by form.
This is also why the Knight can go sphere mode and also appears to become like a bird when it spirits away Undyne. When you're that clad in or made up of dark, your physical form is just a suggestion.
Speaking of nightmares, normally when you examine Toriel at the end of ch3 she is sleeping peacefully. But if you beat the knight instead of getting owned, she is having a nightmare. Idk if that ties into this but throwing it out there too.
