The best hope would be to create a separate community attached to the archie universe. Something like how the equestia at war mod create a community connected but still somewhat seperate from the overall mlp community. And I think sons of mobius could do that with the sonic fanbase

If the standard is so high that "IDW Sonic is out of character" then I think Sonally is out of the question for most of the fandom to accept except for people who are already fans of Sonally.

There was no "he's iredeemable, we have to kill him". They just ganked him. Killing Mimic in this way makes those other moments feel like pointless moralizing for the sake of moral ambiguity.
