At lvl2 traders I'm a big fan of .366 TKM EKO from jaeger lvl2, hits like a truck and has a -15 recoil mod. Also cheap. Can only be used in semiauto guns but those weapons are AK platforms so you should be able to find lots of mods laying around. The low recoil mod means you can actually get good performance with 3x and 4x optics and pepper people at range. 30 pen is pretty damn good for trader ammo at lvl2 too

They've added some very nice QoL stuff, but It's still very time consuming in PVP, and I highly doubt you'll prestige before the wipe unless you seriously have no life. It's still fun to play regardless of that. Even if you're out-geared, you can still win with a little planning well placed shots, even with an inferior weapon/ammo. There's still cheaters/hackers, but the problem is over-exaggerated imo. They should be starting pre-wipe events soon, so it may be fun to join in and mess around.
They also added PVE. In your case, you'd have to buy it due to only having standard edition. It will not reset with wipes and can mostly be played without using BSG servers. You can't trade with Ref currently, but that may not matter if you're not playing Arena, anyways. The AI PMCs are average. Skilled players would have little challenge with this mode overall. It may be worth looking into if you want to hold off on PVP until the wipe.
Long story short, I do think it's worth playing. Whether it's PVP or PVE.
