Upon entering the Darkworld dozens of Rudin Rangers ambush you, hoping to take you out quickly, and they fail. Every darkner you've recruited makes an appearance to try and halt your advance. This part can vary based on how many you've recruited, where you can have the hardest time if you still recruit everyone possible on a Snowgrave run.

Rematches with King and Queen, fighting you both together. Lancer and Rouxls join them too, only for King to take a lethal hit meant for Lancer.

Finale is breaking down the back door in the Castle to the Dark Fountain. Susie and Ralsei are there. There's two parts to this finale. First part is straight up fighting against them in their normal forms.

After their defeat, in desperation Ralsei tells Susie to make another Dark Fountain, which she does. This second fountain forms over Ralsei and he manifests into a Titan, with Susie on his shoulder.

At this point Noelle becomes her true angelic self and then Noelle(You) go onto face Titan Ralsei and Susie in a brutal fight.

I think this overall framework could be true though I don't necessarily think UT Gaster is responsible for what happened to DR Gaster. But I definitely think UT Gaster is afraid of "connecting" with another Gaster for some reason, maybe just because his brilliance has him arrogant enough that another Gaster is the only variable he thinks he can't predict or control.
That would also make the fact that getting the chapter 3 egg voids the "COMPLETE WITHOUT ISSUE" trophy make sense.
And, it goes toward serving as many Gasterfags as possible, if both a scary chessmaster Gaster and a gentler wise but scatterbrained Gaster exist.
