You should be buffing each other.

First impressions after hitting level 20 and doing a few boss fights and planets.

Shields are strong and offer some stats to builds that otherwise may not have used offhands anyway. They also make vanguard a bit better which is nice since that class felt like it was falling behind the others, and "tanking" in general is better now. The unique shield related talent options buff tanking/vanguard pretty directly, but you can also just toss a shield on anyone without any extra talents and get stats so it's flexible.
There's also several non-shield new items I've found so far that have been good.

The companions don't seem very good so far. I gave Jae the skull and Cassia the eagle and both of them are kind of lame. The eagle flies down and does like 30 damage to anyone in a 2x2 aoe and then makes the target shoot their ally. Meanwhile Kibella kills the entire screen of enemies with her 2 ap. It's just uneven. Most of the utility spells are pretty lame too, like the servo skull can get slightly tankier or it can make enemies shoot an ally too.
I assume the dog is the best one, since it's exclusive to arbitrator background while the others are looser in who can take them, so I'll test him out when I recruit Solomon.

They're taking their sweet time with the story missions. I just finished Janus and spoke to the new guy, or any arbitrator for that matter, one single time back on rykad minoris. I assume I'll meet him soon.

Overall so far, still being not very far into the dlc, I like what I've seen. The items are good but the class is a bit behind the others but that's fine.

Oh, and another thing, I don't know why no one else has mentioned this yet, but every voice actor recorded new lines for commanding the familiars. And they're unique to the chosen companion too, which means there's tons of them in the files. Like Cass will order it to soar and stuff. It's a very nice detail.

2handers are about direct damage and AoE attacks. Mostly Power Swords for Psychers because with 2handers STR multiplies all the damage including psychic one at the end of the formula!

Pathfinder combat really overstays its welcome between prebuff requirements and sheer number of trash fights. The worst criticism I can levy at rogue trader is some of the battle areas are too large and moving your party around in battle to get in range of the last couple enemies is a chore.

I'd say the main thing is reducing brightness and removing some of the highlights, and changing the way her hair frames her face. Her face pops out more - in the old one it gets a bit lost in some of the more high-contrast details. They also redrew the face, to make her squint a bit less.

Just now I decided to use the plague storm which hits CON and through Prophet of Pestilence Cam with Thorn Body into the middle of it, also because I'm running low on healing and had to revive Daeren so he lost a couple buffs (mostly done in combat), and so he's holding back where normally I have him on the frontlines. A single rest puts us into the first tier of corruption so I hold off until I can find one of those relics. Found one so far, but not even sure there's another one, so managing resources becomes huge as well as that we're almost entirely out of Restoration, so a few people have -1 or -2 level drain either from Enervation or being revived.

Just that little bit is more than I've ever done in RT, and there are loads of such moments where decisions on how to approach things make a big difference.
My point also isn't that WotR is some kind of strategic pinnacle, but more that RT is really awful and the idea of it being an "improvement" is straight laughable.

Dunno about that. I just cleared Act 1, and I feel like there's been a lot more trash fights than non-trash fights.
Like, the climax just now was wading through a street of trash mobs, then getting ambushed by big group of trash mobs backed by a new type of demon that looked intimidating but actually died in two rounds, and then a chaos space marine backed by a retinue of some trash mobs. The space marine probably could have hurt me, but I tore it down before it got a chance. I feel like the only proper challenge in the prologue chapter was my first landing on Rykad Minoris, because my party was low level, I was unfamiliar with the combat system, and there were a lot of trash mobs I had to fight through. That was fun, but it didn't last, and I'm not sure if it's ever coming back or if I've permanently crossed some power threshold.

Except sometimes it threw you a curveball, like the shadow demon in the basement in the prologue, or the ancient Sarkorian ghost in the hamlet ruins. You'd need to carefully assess the enemy's capabilities (often by dying a few times), carefully consider the resources at your disposal, and tell your entire party hang back while the ghost dumps all its doomsday spells on your summoned angels. The game had forms of challenge that weren't solely based on enemy numbers. Not to mention that fights, both with trash mobs and bosses, were much faster than in RT.

There's also one at the end of Act 3 that is quite tough.
Oh I almost forgot, the DLC is consistently pretty challenging and has a tough and memorable final boss.
The gameplay comes from respeccing your characters for the most efficient builds possible.

Low Gothic is just the universal human language after 40000 years of evolution. It's portrayed in English as a translation convention but in-universe it probably sounds completely different. There is High Gothic too, which is the fancy version used by nobles. All the fake latin like Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes is just a nod toward the fact that this isn't actual English you're seeing.
