I think Scarlet Forest ALMOST represents the worst case scenario for this game (it ran even worse when its Scarlet Forest + raining)

If it were up to me, I'd bring back combo books in some way, probably by having players contribute to research by providing guild points or whatever gotten through the usual methods that would upgrade crafting chances at camps.

Then I'd make players have to create lures using jewels from monsters plus some endgame item (it would have replaced Hunter Tickets) to bait out the 8-star monsters to grind for equipment creating materials that can be used in combination with consuming the last weapon in a weapon tree to unlock the layered version and the ability to transfer its innate weapon skill to another weapon of choice. It would be a one-time use for skill transfer and make you grind out the capstone weapon and consume it every time you wanted to do it.

Wilds instead serves you meals that include lots of chocolate every single day. And while at first it's nice, you're getting what you love afterall, eventually you'll wake up, see that cake and your reaction will be "Damn, wish I could eat something else..."

It's funny that Tokuda actually understands the importance of it and that's why he includes deliberately shitty/annoying monsters that most people don't like, but Wilds is so streamlined that the shitmons don't even get to be annoying anymore

Honestly the only thing I want out of Wilds is more content and no more drip feed shit. I really like how the game plays and its vibe, I like how similar it is to 4U and I really like the monsters in this one, especially the apexes. The game just feels like its cut short and does not have enough replayability, I don't even think we really need totally new content fo fix this. Just make more event quests, more multi monster quests, throw some zany modifiers in, put all the monsters in some sort of gauntlet mode. Just something to enable playing constantly more easily. Sunbreak had this sort of stuff entirely separate from the anomaly grind and it made it really fun to just keep making shit and fighting stuff like the hazard quests and other event things.

Wilds is this weird mix that tries to do 20 things at once but can't do anything properly. It's still fun due to the good fights but everything else is a mess.

Have you seen the old World prototype they showed off at GDC? The only reason World is even remotely "coherent" is because they didn't have the time or budget to actually realize any of their terrible ideas. They originally wanted to have full stealth mechanics in the game, with hiding behind terrain and everything. The hiding in tall grass shit is basically the only remnant of that.
