I consider this very, very, very unlikely but a fun possibility is that Gerson might've been from another on the team that was and his spiel about Doubt/Irony poisoning stories being a vent piece from someone else. We don't know the exact writing process for DR after all, Toby only had a fever dream for the ending last I heard so the other main members could be handling other parts (credits doesn't give them a specific role), such as how we got Ch4 Catti being out of left-field a bit/Susie calling someone a "furry degenerate".

All depends, the reason I'm so afraid of a creative having so little faith in his work as to self-censor is that the line will easily get blurred. The point after all's to prevent a controversial reaction from happening and that eventually means playing very, very soft (because now you're hoping the most extreme denominators don't make that connection and blow the flames on internet discourse). Especially with a producer who probably isn't happy with the idea of doing this type of patching again. Doing it once? Freak exception, whatever. Doing it twice? Could break glass. The thing is that there is no "playing very, very soft" after the chapter 4 weird route. Again, I'm disappointed that it was changed it all, but going from the rose wilting to the glass cracking only makes things marginally less disturbing. For the carousel, the hitboxes are very lenient and you can actually pass through most of the heads safely, just not the bodies.
