what's surprising isn't that SoD is losing players, it's how abruptly and dramatically it fell off once they announced there would be no more updates. you would expect a gradual decline in players, not the game essentially dying overnight. in TBC, Wrath and right now in Cata, people kept raiding right up to the end of the expansion even though they knew it would be made irrelevant a week later, just for fun. there's always a decline in that last phase, but it's usually an incline and not a sharp drop-off. it's pretty telling that people didn't actually enjoy the SoD content and were just playing because they were addicted to the treadmill. which to be fair, describes most of WoW players to an extent, but with SoD it's really pronounced.

That would be annoying if you want to use some buffs and save others. For example I farm Tribute and use my DMT buffs while saving Ony/Rend/Zandalar in the boon.

After leveling many characters on Catacla, I can say confidently that "Cata isn't classic" guy is correct spiritually if not technically. The reworked zones are extremely different, and quite bing bing wahooed, if you will.

I stopped raiding on my main after a few too many mc + bwl's. The raids are just too easy and annoying. Goblin packs ew. World buff stacking was probably "balanced" by the fact you had to spend a ton of time and gold on summons to min-max the buff duration. But with the boon it's too easy to stack them and this power creep was never addressed either. But the real issue is we should be playing Classic + now and not Vanilla 2.0 (Blizzards take with dual spec, boon etc). I just hope epoch is good so I can play there instead.

MoP heroic raids are harder than anything in Wrath, the first tier is pretty easy but even then some stuff like Sha will farm guilds that aren't good with progging and pugs.

yeah, I'm cool with the difficulty. it's just other players I'm worried about lol. from what I remember, some of the raids are pretty long with a lot of trash too. in Wrath people started dropping like flies midway through Ulduar because of the length and "difficulty". I still managed to make it through the expansion, but it became an increasing struggle. I just wanna do ToT and SoO and hopefully knock out a decent number of heroics but I'm worried it's gonna be a ghost town.

Look at it this way, with no GDKPs, there's basically 0 incentive to play alts. TBC is by far the most alt unfriendly iteration of the first three Classic games.
You're basically forced to join a guild or join pugs with everything good on HR. All the while consumes prices are out of control because of bot mafias controlling all of the mana thistle and terocone nodes.
I don't see enough people talking about how fucked the economy is going to be when the consume shortage hits.

I haven't healed since I played BfA and I really haven't played much wow in general since then. I am gonna play shaman probably. I can't even tell who the tank is in normal dungeons though. Is there a way to set up the party portraits better so I can have them in order, or move them around.

My understanding is that the mage is the hardest class to recruit in guilds. So if you love mage you should always go for it. Same with warlock but mists of pandaria is seen as peak warlock expansion so there are plenty at least at the start the class just doesn't seem to be that popular in the long run no matter how strong it is.
