Exedra borrowed from Heavenly Burns Red and Honkai: Star Rail combat systems while maintaining the quintet. While Exedra is very polished in terms of UI visual design, in the overall picture if we consider Star Rail to be a scenic mountain valley with many trees and nature's beauty, Exedra can be compared to a tundra or some midwest plains. There isn't anything anything to do beyond do your dailies and then log. Even HBR has a lot more that you can sink time into and it stays interesting. If you do all the dailies and weeklies, you get about 7-10 free pulls per month, and you need 200 to guarantee a specific unit via spark (no pity, no carry-over, banners rotate after 5-14 days). Spark system is EXTREMELY punishing to F2P players; if you spend any gems on a banner, be prepared to (a) use ALL of the F2P gems that exist in the game, (b) spend several hundred dollars, or (c) lose out on this and future characters while you spent AT LEAST 10 months saving up to recoup your losses; the "pity" system will reset, and wipe out everything you spent, once the banner ends after 1-2 weeks. It's not like Hoyo games; Aniplex doesn't welcome any players who aren't whales, no matter when they join.
Main story quest will give around 200-something pulls in total, maybe a little more, if you complete all difficulties, so I guess you can pick one girl to guarantee. But content is not repeatable, so by that point you're just logging in for maintenance without any actual gameplay.

A number of other gachas, especially Chinese ones, copied this model due to its popularity with players. Hoyo generally gives players upwards of 60 pulls worth of gacha currency per 6-week patch cycle (sometimes a little over 100 during special events). Banners last 3 weeks, but accumulate a hard pity counter which carries over indefinitely. Some Japanese (and Korean) gachas follow a "spark" system, similar to Exedra. What sets Exedra apart is that the banners are shorter lived, new ones get added more frequently/suddenly, and they give FAR less free currency than pretty much any gacha currently in service. A lot of others, such as Blue Archive, are known for giving enough free pulls to guarantee a specific 5-star maybe every other month, if you're active enough, so while the spark system may be more punishing, it remains somewhat accessible to F2P players with proper planning. If you waste your 200 free pulls in one of those games, wait a few months and learn from your mistake; if you waste them in Exedra, your best option is delete the account and start over.

Genshin, Star Rail, Honkai, and Wuthering Waves banners last 1/2 of the patch cycle - usually 6 weeks, or 7 in the case of Wuthering Waves. There are usually at least 2 featured characters at a time, and they always rotate together, on the same fixed (3-week) schedule, usually with drip marketing weeks in advance - no surprises like in Exedra. You will see them coming, and have plenty of time to try and save (or swipe), but if you miss out, it can take a while before a featured character reruns. Good thing is, they're pretty generous with F2P currency, so unless you have an impulse/gambling problem, you'll probably be able to save up within the 3 weeks (plus early notice) and guarantee whoever you want.

- Content is much more F2P-friendly, and there's not a huge gap between 4-stars and 5-stars. Exedra requires a 5-star defender/sustain, but there are no must-pulls in Genshin.
- Pity carries over, so you can safely "try your luck" on any 5-star banner, or pull just to get 4-stars. If you get it before pity kicks in, then you lucked out. If not, your pulls get saved as "pity" and are never wasted.
- Smaller threshold to guarantee whichever 5-star character(s) you want most, pity cap is lower, pity carries over to future banners, and game is more generous with free pulls. Unlike the spark buyout where if you don't go all in with 200 pulls, all your gems are wasted.

You've got all the 5* I do but higher ascension and then even some extra characters, you should easily be able to get to the last floor once you figure out the gimmick of the battle. The same team isn't going to work for each battle, so maybe that's where you're getting stuck.
