Now I haven't read the whole 200 page guide yet, but I think that if you have enough speed to beat the opponent but not enough power to get you there fast enough at the end of the race that basically you're relying partially on Guts which most people leave low so they can max Speed and Power.
For reference I have a Vodka that cleared URA finals with 750 speed, and 900 power. But my Vodka with 915 speed, and 750 power didn't win, then again she was in Pace, which was probably fucking her up in other ways.

Rolling for better horses will do you much less good than using support cards that mesh with your horse + training them better
When in doubt, pick a front running horse like Bakushin O, focus primarily speed with some of everything else; maximize your friendships without sacrificing too many stats, because friendship trainings are cracked

Cause I have two 2* Turfs but it's not going up, but my 3* Long is increasing
I've found a double 3 speed combo and am trying to get some clean, high speed stat wins with scarlet but I'm seriously struggling with consistency. Exactly how little power and stamina can I reliably get away with? I haven't even been doing races, just pumping stats as fast as I can. Pace chasers can be obnoxious at times
who should i do career days with if i want to support Goldshi as best as possible?

you only need 1* for one letter increase, 3 stars total for 2 increase, around 6 or 7 stars total for 3 increase if I recall. You can only increase it up 4 total, G->C for example, which is something like 14 stars.
More stars you have the more likely you get an up mid-run which is RNG, it's possible but rare to go G->A with two inspiration increases and a full focus on it, 9 stars on both parents for maximum chance.

I read the quick start guide and original newfag guide but neither gives advice on how much of your starting budget to spend on supports vs characters. I've played grub though, if supports are your grid/summons equivalent then I assume the meta is to only care about them and not characters, but I've never been a metafag or an oktowife so I'd much rather spend my gems getting more horsepussies than dupes of cards that do nothing but raise stats.
are there any grindable cards or shit from events that dont come from the gacha like in grub or are you required to choose between horsepussy and stats?

SRs are really strong too, there's a whole bunch of SRs that at MLB are better than SSRs, the only downside is no gold skill.
the main fun in the game is getting more Uma. Don't ruin your fun by metafagging too much. There's also free rolls on both occasionally that can luckfag you into stuff.

You can have a deck full of MLB support cards but if your uma has shit parents and no good skill inherits it will be worse off than a F2P using event MLBs and borrowing a whale's support.
A F2P uma under these conditions with a god tier RNG run is also going to be much stronger than a whale's uma under just "good" run circumstances.
Uma kind of takes it back to the GBF era where you're more rewarded for time and effort spent in grinding.
So why do people pull Oguri over Taiki? Isn't Taiki better on Dirt, Sprint and Mile?

All the "best" SSRs people talk about getting have mediocre skill hints. Super creek has a gold heal which is great, but the rest of her hints are garbage for example.
Good parents are just as important as card deck sometimes with the amount of skill hints you get from them.
