also gotta remember when the brawl first came out, no one had any cards. now the sweaties have had time to grind runs and open a lot of packs, so decks like "murloc aggro" are a lot more realistic than they were at first. it's very possible imbue pally was only farming weak incomplete decks, and now that people are running real decks, something else is better

Beating Murloc on value is almost impossible unless they don't hit any of their draw or good minions, and they can easily set up 30 damage on board to kill you even through the heal. I had much better success trying to get under them then I did trying to go over other then the one who drew dead and ran out of cards on like turn 5.

I got 6 wins with that one, Relic of Kings only gets 2 spells on it so you can guarantee full heal to 40 (story of Amara) + all minions get sent to random decks (Typhoon). I added a Steamcleaner just to fuck with Imbue paladin as well since there's so many of them. Just play very control/value oriented
That said if you didn't roll some of the other mage discover synergy cards I wouldn't try it.

I think they actually can outscale the pressure you're putting on board if they hit multiples of the rush dude that splits into 3 murlocs, especially with the divine shield. If you can survive and hit 10 cost dragons, you've probably won the game anyway, but that's way harder. It does depend on your draw and what the other guy plays, though. If they're shitting everything onto the board and running out of value, I did beat one guy like that, but every other time, we've both had reasonably full hands at the end and I just went under him because the average murloc has garbage stats for what you're paying.

New expansion sure looks promising if people are dominating it with a deck that's not even that good in the current meta. Collect your free packs with Imbue Pally, the only real challenge is winning the mirror

you win the mirror by filling your deck with imbues before they do, and casting Ursol AFTER the opponent does. mulligan for aegis, and play off curve early game just to get extra casts of hero power in.

It's not always that simple. It's a mirror, so one of you is going to end up playing aggro and the other control, depending on what cards you draw. I dropped him on curve almost every game, because the point isn't to burn out the other guy but to put on massive amounts of pressure that a 9/7 kill 2 minions every turn represents. If they throw back Ursol as a counter and all it kills is yours, you can now get far ahead on board while the aura cleans up their response.

Spamming imbue early game is also a waste, the games might go to fatigue if you're drawing aggressively like you should, but it's much better to spend the mana playing cards that either draw cards to find your imbue buffs or are said imbue buffs. You're both running 2x Cons and Equality + Gnomeila, a single wide board is just gonna get cleared or even be forced to run into taunts, so you want to draw towards the bottom of your deck aggressively. I don't even think about pressing the imbue button until I've either got a card that needs it as an activator or I'm floating mana anyway, which can easily be as late as turn 5 if I curved out well in the early game. Generating a 1 or 2 drop from Armerments isn't impactful, but a free 4 or 5 mana dragon is a big threat, especially if you get lucky and get the rush + divine shield one to help you win board harder. People like yourself think this is a value match up, but it's not, it's 100% a tempo match up and so you want to be spending mana on cards as much as possible outside of objectively bad plays like wasting removal. I also think 1 Ancient of Yore is probably the most game winning piece of tech since it means if you get down to the bottom of your deck, you have two turns where your summoning the dragons at the end of your turn instead of the start of the next which means they can attack face.

I've done the mirror a shitload of times and the player who imbues nonstop and early generally always stomps the player who waits until T4/T5 to hero power. prioritizing drawing your deck out and not hero powering until T5 is crazy to me and doesn't match up with any of the brawl or legend games that I have been playing.

having substantially more imbues to fill your board up reduces the strength of the opponent equalicrate, and if you draw well can even lead to an early game steamroll before Ursol ever comes out. the Ursol counterplay is also not about burning face, its about having the last heal and last board removal out of the two players, leaving you with a better board state and mostly negating their Ursol play entirely while leaving you with value.

if you want to keep waiting until T5 to imbue, that's your prerogative, but I'll stick with having 3-4x that amount of equally powerful imbues by that point.

Maybe I'm just a legend beating up on poor regular players if the Tavern Brawl didn't have MMR, though I remember more then a couple of them had legend card backs, but if you're spending mana on putting imbues into your deck before turn 5, they're not going to be as powerful as mine where I spent every turn playing a card that levels up my imbues and then hammer on 4 to start thinning my deck and protect my board which is also more powerful then yours since I didn't waste mana but instead put stats on the board. My list did run two petals and the Yore I mentioned as the flex spots, plus two of the 1/1 divine shield 1 drops, so it was a very aggressive and fast list which might have had something to do with it, but idk. It felt way better then the greedier lists with things like the Imbue Old Gods thing which goes counter to the point of the deck if you're wasting a turn dicking around.

Imbuing early in the hopes that I drew a free cheap dragon, which certainly isn't guaranteed, feels way too slow and praying for a ~1/5 to even pay off. Meanwhile, I'm doing my best to turbo getting big fucking dragons from my imbues while also forcing you to answer my board to avoid simply dying. Obviously, I'm not holding the imbue to turn 5 every game, sometimes you just have to imbue and armament on 2 or even 3 if that's what the hand you got dealt was.

I also think you're thinking about Ursol wrong. He's a very slow play even with killing two minions, so if you're getting yours down first, you also get to craft a better answer to play around the beams while also maintaining board, or even sometimes just go over the top if they've taken enough minion damage in the mid game. It also means that if the other guy goes for a removal turn, the beams will continue to put pressure on his face and might very well threaten lethal if you just hard cast the other or otherwise remove whatever small minions they can afford after clearing.

additionally imbuing your hero power will also upgrade all the imbue cards already in your deck, that's the main point of using hero power early: you get more portals in your deck that upgrade as you continue to imbue, giving you more big creatures later and increasing the odds of chaining portals in the midgame for board fills instead of single dragons. drawing portals early is fine because most of the 2/3 drops have solid stats and great effects.

I understand that, but you don't need more minions then your board can hold, or even have enough attack to threaten lethal. Spending mana on portals early means that you're surrendering board control and allowing the other player to dictate value trades and then have the tempo to play further imbues which further puts you behind on tempo and value. Gambling on hitting early portals is risky when you can just play stats instead since it's not like Imbue pally runs a bunch of understatted minions if you're curving out, and if you're dead before you can draw deep enough into your deck to hit those additional portals, they did nothing for you. I had great success playing the deck like a mid range deck where the point of the portals was to occasionally give you a big burst of tempo when you drew them off the 4 mana dragon, with the dragon portal spam being there mostly to help put the final bits of pressure. I think trying to play towards value instead is just a losing line since the 10 drop dragons are so much better then everything else with their effects and statlines, so you want to be putting on as much board pressure as you can to give yourself the breathing room to play all the imbue cards and not an insignificant amount of the time, the other guy will be too greedy and you can just blast him. I went like 8-0 in the mirror with this approach, so I'd strongly suggest trying it out.

I should have been more specific but I'm retarded: I'm not just straight up skipping creature drops to hero power in early turns. if I can play a smaller body + hero power instead of dropping the on curve creature (like Bitterbloom + hero power on T3 instead of Goldpetal), I almost always opt for that. you can stack multiple imbues later, but you can't stack hero powers (in the meta list or brawl, anyway), so as long as I'm getting stats on the board for early trades I tend to prioritize stacking extra hero powers as long as it's not immediately detrimental. The "Cast a random spell from your deck" Murloc is a little annoying since it can cast equality and the buff isn't an aura, meaning your Murloc's HP is set to 1 like it should be. For most decks the board state of the first 6-7 turns straight up does not matter at all because of how easy it is to wipe boards and reset health.
