I think that they cocked it up on both sides. Sword is overall the best class. Just hear me out. It's the only class that can consistently beat Rune niggers, without losing to everything else the way aggro Abyss does. Sword is just so consistent, decent match up to rune, doesn't die to roach, can kill puppet (more popular than artifacts, which are harder for sword). Sword only gets stomped by haven and artifact, both of which are very rare now.

Sword plays dudes on curve, but their hand size will steadily decrease because they can't generate cards and their draw is tide to mid/late game with Amelia and Olivia. As of the current set, if Sword didn't spawn lots of dudes, the class just doesn't function.

I don't like how they straight up deleted Blood from the game instead of using 9 (NINE) years worth of data to rework the DOGSHIT vengeance and DOGSHIT wrath mechanics into something good.
I only thought about it for like 2 minutes but blood's thing is fighting, Urias was a (aptly named) blood knight trope i.e. someone who lives only to fight, so why not give them a mechanic that makes them stronger when the enemy DOESN'T want to fight? Any time your opponent passes a turn without hitting your face you can pick 1 card in your hand to power up with a permanent buff. You also can't do it until your first evo turn. Then, make all cards in hand get a boost if you're at half hp. If your enemy didn't hit you AND you're at half hp you can choose 1 card to power it up TWICE.
I'm just throwing darts at the board here but there are so many things you could do with that mechanic that could be workable in SV environment (vengeance in 1 became a non-mechanic pretty quickly that wass only relevant when the class received cards that forced you into the mechanic regardless of your hp, and most such cards were unusable shit cards too)

Portal has repeatable healing, but on an answerable body. No one is complaining about Alpha though. It's Sylvia's burst healing that's the real point of contention.
In an ideal world, healing is still doable but they won't be able to crack back on you in the same breath, so you can establish a threat while they heal to stabilize. It becomes a game of whether they can answer your threat while stabilizing. Rune and Portal have the ability to do that, but for different reasons.

They've genuinely just fucked the balance from the jump on this, and I don't know that adding more cards can fix it. This isn't an issue isolated to Rune or Portal either because their are powder kegs sitting in every craft. Healing out of death range isn't the cancer. It's just one symptom of unfun play patterns. Build-a-board solo plays, cheap mass removal, and huge damage swings directly out of hand aren't set 1 material, but it's only going to get worse from here.

You can use it for either control, aggro, or anything in-between in designing new cards and archetypes for the craft. Vengeance was a misstep, Wrath felt both arbitrary and masturbatory to set up, but the effects that keyed off of "if you hit yourself, get/do a thing" were cool.

I'm currently ranked B3 and playing in Diamond, with over 70% of my points earned at that level. Based on my experience in nearly 100 Diamond matches, most wins and losses are determined by player skill. Only a few games are truly decided by things outside your controlโthis is especially true in Portal mirrors.
More important than playing Aloutte on turn 5 or Orchis on turn 8 (which are undoubtedly strong plays) is being able to anticipate your opponentโs next 1โ2 turns and act accordingly. Sometimes, the best play is the most unconventional: like using an evolve point on a 1/3 on turn 4 to force your opponent Aloutte to summon Gamma instead of Beta, holding onto Orchis on turn 8 and developing your handโs artifact count instead, or even passing a turn entirely so you can outlast your opponent resources if things go to late game. I played a suboptimal list with only 2 Orchis and 2 Ralmia because I lacked a third copy and even then I found that most matchups came down on who played better (even now I'm still missing the third Ralmia).
Yes, itโs true that as MMR gets higher players might optimize their plays so well that external factors begin to matter more. But at least in my own experience so far, I can confidently say that over 70% of my losses came from not approaching the matchup in the most effective way or by directly misplaying a turn. And thatโs because Shadowverse is a very unforgiving game when it comes to not making optimal plays; one error in the first 3 turns can be enough for you to lose the entire match if your opponent can capitalize.
I also think blaming all your losses on luck is the wrong mindset. You can't improve if you donโt own your losses and try to understand what went wrong. Sure, some games are unwinnableโthatโs just the nature of any TCGโand playing a tier 2 deck or lower will naturally make things somewhat harder. But even then, thereโs always room to improve
