Carol isn't stupid and is extremely protective of her home, so she has to know that he has an ulterior motive, but doesn't see him as a threat to her plan because she knows he's incompetent (and he wouldn't dare set foot in Dess's room where the code is).

And you have to replay all of the chapters over and over and over again to finally get to the actual ending

Since Undertale genocide already had a lot of metacommentary about players doing the cartoonishly evil route for no reason other than completionism, I wonder if Deltarune will try to have some metacommentary about going down such a route purely for the thrill of fighting super hard bosses at the end, like Sans was in Undertale. The secret bosses seem to maybe be leaning this direction with that comment from ERAM, but then again the Gerson fight was 100% a positive influence on everyone and arguably should be considered fully canon regardless of the route, so who knows.
