So what exactly IS the long term strategy for Stadium as it's own mode? Because after playing it for a few weeks I really can't be bothered to go back. And it's weird because I really like the mode and there was such a storm among discussion when this thing was coming out, but after playing it for a while it just doesn't seem like it was as grandiose as those first few hours were on it. I was maybe expecting too much depth because at the end of it all you're just playing overwatch with some more perks and damage modifiers. Teamfights just feel like you shoot at each other until one team explodes. There isn't really those "wow, that couldn't have happened in a normal match" type of situations. I'd really like some improvements to the shop to make every time you're there feel like you're making smart, critical purchases on the fly. Not just picking items/abilities that give you a dumb perk and make your m1 feel better.

Modern Overwatch is suffering from the exact same issue that killed Concord: toxic positivity. Perks were like an antibiotic for the player base, they wiped out everyone who couldn't stomach them and left behind only the most hardened and diehard fans. As the game has continued to bleed players at a staggering rate (a rate not seen since the Season 6 Steam launch) for the past 3 seasons (yes, the past 3 seasons are the worst performing in terms of retention, and you can confirm it yourself by pulling the csv from steamdb); while this complete collapse of Overwatch’s player base is still underway, it’s somehow being praised as a renaissance in gameplay and developer communication. This isn't a renaissance, not even close, this is the equivalent of a nest of roaches being nuked and it's hardened ilk being scattered to the wind to feast on the crumbs of civilization.

The identity of the game has deviated significantly from launch, and with it, it's goals. Stadium and Perks are the final Hail Mary before the game inevitably sunsets or goes maintenance mode. We will likely never see a repeat of the developer sprint that created Stadium because they're on a short leash now, especially with the game continuing to die. How many reductions in workforce will Team 4 see before players admit the game is shrinking rather than growing?
