Last time I touched anything Sonic was Generations over a decade ago, just watched the movies and kinda liked them. Should I give Sonic X (subbed JP version, duh) an earnest watch? I only watched the American version as a kid ages ago and remember next to nothing of it.
I thought skimming the last month of two of the archives for mentions of it would answer it like it usually does with stuff like that but a few posts said there's a very proactive anti-X schizo on the loose and I'm inclined to agree after wading through it all so that didn't get me any closer to the answer.

Sonic X is ok. It just has a lot of filler stuff, and it's not 100% in character. Also the animation can get really iffy. But it's still probably the best Sonic show

Sonic values Freedom. That is Sonic's primary value. Freedom, based on my interpretation of what Sonic means by it, is a lack of responsibility/duty/etc... Therefore, if Sonic values freedom above all, he values the lack of things to give others.
That is to say: Freedom is sort of a monetary currency that you can exchange for things that others value in you. If you have a lot of freedom, you can do a lot of things for yourself, usually hedonistic things that fulfill your primal carnal desires. If you exchange freedom for responsibilities, however, you can do things for others, like having children, contributing to society with a job, helping others, among other things. These things are usually associated with fulfillment instead of hedonistic pleasures.
Since Sonic prefers to hoard freedom instead of exchanging it for anything, he will never have any fulfillment OR things that he can offer to others other than his nature-given powers. Thus, the only way Sonic can help others is through extremely contrived scenarios where he can use his unearned powers and shallow advice. Put him in any other situation and just see how much of a useless, ignorant person he is.

Silver and Blaze are not "Tanabata-coded" in any meaningful way. The idea has been repeated ad nauseam by a certain shipper who got it in her head years ago, but repetition doesn't make it accurate. If you're going to invoke Tanabata, the emphasis should be on the core of that story, the importance and emotional weight of the characters' meeting, then separation. That isn't present in 06. It doesn't treat their meeting as a focal point. There's no buildup to it, no narrative significance, no sense of destined reunion or tragic separation that characterizes the legend. Silver and Blaze are presented and introduced as longtime allies from the same future timeline. Clearly, the game positions Blaze as fully from Silver's world and storyline, not her own separate dimension, and her sacrifice is key here. She wouldn't have made that sacrifice at all if she was still intended to be the guardian of the Sol Emeralds from the Sol Dimension in 06's context as well. Any alternate interpretations to reconcile this, such as Blaze being reincarnated into the Sol Dimension are just alternate ideas with no direct support in the games and therefore don't support the Tanabata narrative, making the 06/Silvaze version of Blaze essential exist in a creative vacuum separate from all other depictions of Blaze. And if she no longer remembers Silver post-06, that strongly undermines any attempt to frame their relationship as echoing Tanabata's eternal, star-crossed lovers narrative as well. And another thing is, Silver and Blaze never had those feelings for each other. Never stated, never implied, never portrayed, not even a vibe, if we're being honesf. What is, is something directly contrary. An explicitly familial view. Silvaze fans are always making desperate attempts to inject random literary symbolism into a ship that simply doesn't support it. It's one of the most forced fan readings out there, which is constent with the general tone of Silvaze shipping.
No other villains work for Sonic other than Eggman. Every other villain that SEGA has tried to introduce is pure, forgettable garbage. The Zeti? Trash. Starline? Trash. Surge and Kit? Trash. Metal Sonic? Jobs. None of them are nearly as memorable, threatening, or interesting as Dr. Eggman and there is a reason why they can never make a Sonic game without including him.
