Merciless has kill clip and a variation of controlled burst without the increased damage, meaning any legendary with controlled burst is better, which damage tests show to be true. Sleeper was getting out dps'd by Taipan when LFR's were at their peak, or any burst LFR after they got introduced. Queenbreaker just got good, but is propped up by the artifact this season and still barely beats out other LFR's for boss dps which is all it's good for now. Lorentz is just a special ammo Graviton Lance, and every void primary or special now rolls with weaken or aoe, or both plus giving you shields. Arbalest has been nerfed pretty hard, and Wishender does the job better now, or you can just use an aoe launcher or rocket sidearm which both take down shields just as fast, have better ammo economy, and either have the same perk as arbalest for increased damage after removing shields, or better perks. The mythoclast in D2 doesn't do anything unique, any solar with incandescent is automatically better at ad clear, any with heal clip is better for utility, and every solar rolls with both of those now. There's really no reason to waste your exotic slot with a fusion rifle since none of them are better than the current legendaries available.

I gotta find the tweet but somebody was guesstimating theoreticals of being efficient in Portal and how with how low the numeric gains are even in a world of endless reward source and potential of efficient activities taking 10-15 mins, it could take realistically 150+ hours to get up to what would be the equivalent of being good to go for GM nightfalls. Obviously this is not airtight and just making assumptions and the game could still cuck you on time-score rewards but I think the big fear is true, they're stretching out things hard because they got fuck all to show for and want to shift the whole lens of getting to end game by forced tedium.
I say this as an overachieving psycho, I am not playing this shit unless there's a better explanation from Bungie that illustrates with examples how this plays out and what exactly the odds are for getting higher tier shit. Right now this all looks like a minefield of beginner's traps of people who are gonna wonder why it takes forever to get to cap but realize they're playing in a super inefficient way. See Diablo 4 with bad nightmare dungeons and doing shit that's too under your level and offers no real gain.

Oh I get it now, this whole power rework shit, sources, portal etc, itโs just dragging out leveling to its most extreme to repackage the old crap with modifiers that drag it out to make it more watchable. This is going to push a further reliance on content slobs because theyโll naturally have the free time to chart the paths and make all sorts of passive aggressive good cop bad cop arguments about how the system is actually really good and itโs totally cool to turn a story mission into a mini raid. There is no reason that any redbar should take more than 1~3 bullets from ANY gun, let alone high-power/low-RPM guns like a hand cannon or scout rifle.
If Primary ammo could consistently be relied upon to deal with chaff while also offering decent returns for non-chaff damage, it'd be fine. Special, Heavy, and Abilities are allowed to be stronger. The problem isn't that those are higher power, it's that Primary literally cannot do the job, even in on-level content on an exotic Primary.
