What's wrong with the endgame?

1. Pick Bene or Swordmaster. You will unlock all classes and can respec for free but both of these are in end game zones and take longer to unlock
2. You abandon the first zone and base
3. You can turn crafting stations on/off, as well as power generators, to save the power cells that get drained
4. sub fiefs require power to prevent storms destroying them, advanced fiefs need power and you have to pay tax, you can live inside a sub fief for a very, very long time before needing to craft an advanced one so dont stress upgrading too soon
5. when building a sub fief, place the device down, then build 2 foundations on top of each other, then destroy the sub fief and put it on top of the 2 foundations, you've now got a lot more height to work with
6. with advanced fiefs you can upgrade how much space you get with stakes, they cost 15k each and add 2.5k in taxes for each, horizontal ones add one giant square in the direction you choose (it takes 30s before it deploys so you can cancel it) and vertical ones add space above and below every single square you already own (and own into the future)
7. The buggy and buggy laser are THE best way to mine and far more important than anything else you can craft or get
8. the handheld sickle is great for water, hold T to see what time of day it is, when you're in the blue zone of the time circle its optimal time to harvest (it'll say poor or optimal when harvesting water), this will carry your water requirements until you get the deathstill from doing the first 8 main story quests (you can rush these at any time, you dont need good gear or weapons to finish them)

The things I wish I knew more of before I started.

Am I crazy or is getting plant fiber in bulk a huge pain in the ass? There's not a tool for harvesting it better that I'm missing, is there?

Even if you build two temporary bases for both titanium and straw and reassemble a buggy before mining runs, you'll need to haul everything back, being limited by 1000 storage of an assault thopter.
Building a carrier is expensive as fuck and probably not rational for a solo player

It's what I expect. The first game I've ever seen with PVP multiplayer melee that isn't absolute ass to play and I'm about 99% certain it's going to be invalidated by ranged builds, just because that's how anything I actually like goes.

Not even the quintessential fact that the lynchpin foundation of the setting is holtzman shields invalidating guns will prevent ranged from dominating melee and balance changes favouring ranged over melee.

Everything is stupid easy in hagga basin. Only in the deep desert (not the shield wall PVE labs) do you encounter any enemies that are actually dangerous, and they are dangerous not because of any game mechanics, but because they are bullet sponges that require 10+ hits to kill even with the best gear in the game, and drop you in a few hits if you ever fuck up.

Stillsuits are also the best gear if you're doing anything that isn't PVP - and you are doing anything but PVP 99% of the time you're playing.

And the vast majority of the armor in the game looks stupid, meanwhile you basically can't go wrong with a rubber suit perfectly matching the countours of an athletic and fit body.

the entirety of hagga basin is teaching you skills and mechanics that don't apply whatsoever to the end game.

Even the PVE mechanics teach you wrong, stuff like parry then slow attack for a kill - well ACTUALLY nobody parries, and the stun from a parry isn't long enough for a slow attack to work anyway, so instead of parrying it's all about draining stamina with guns and abilities and then finishing them off with a slowblade when they can't move anymore. Parrying effectively never comes into it, and slow blades are inherently useless without draining stamina first.

Neither of which are things you're taught in hagga basin. The game trains you wrong.

Stillsuits are generally cheaper and and easier to make also due to less parts and if your going melee armour value is useless to you as your shield is suppose to tank everything unless your getting your ass completely kicked.

That means the only useful stat is the dash reduction value from light but if your exploring extra water and reduced sun expposure is just better. Sure you can take a litrejon to deal with water issues but that takes storage and water is at a premium (with enough resources you can also drain however much water you have stored).

TBF Parrying is actually good the netcode is just too inconsistent to rely on it. The only endgame longsword that isn't a rapier gives you stamina on parry which will literally save your life and win you fights in many encounters if you know how to properly use it.

You do still want armor for melee builds for when someone stabs you through the shield.

The main benefit of light vs stillsuit is the stamina (2-3 more dashes) and the armor+stab mitigation, which probably doubles the amount of slow attacks you can take.

I think stillsuits should have the dash/stamina bonus personally, like:

Stillsuit - dash/stamina/speed king
Light Armor - good dash/stamina but forgiving if someone gets through the shield with a slowblade attack
Heavy armor - tank damage while shields are down and don't care too much about dashing or stamina

Even in DD where they can potentially shred your shields, played properly they shouldn't actually be harming you which is where the stillsuit advantage really comes into play as you can go on longer expeditions without worrying about water especially as you'll want to be be at max hydration at all times for the swordmaster extra stamina.

True but thats always a battle of attrition, they have 3 abilities and a limited amount of dashes if pressured. Once they use them they will have to use their regular sword attacks to kill you which is what your aiming to parry as even if they've exhausted all your dashes one good parry will allow you to escape as you have the stun and the extra dash afforded by it.

They do, but it's semi scripted in the sense that when a player gets close to a specific base that triggers a spawn of X enemy type who will attack the NPCs hanging out at the base. So in the shield wall you'll have Atreides and Harkonnen troops attacking the bases, and in other areas you'll have the different type of scavengers attacking each other too.

It's kinda strange we can't attack those flying ships when we get thopters.

Solo the sword is best since you have to engage multiple enemies at the same time with no one to peel aggro off of you. Kindjal and Dirk are dueling weapons, and the Rapier kinda sits between them and the Sword. Using Retaliate with a sword will burn down entire groups of enemies and its utility for later-game quests can not be overstated, especially the one where you go to the crashed ship and Old Carthag.

You can just build an aluminum mining outpost on the ridge with a sub fief that has nothing except water and an ore refinery, and get the biggest bike inventory you can afford, then do quick hauls. Dune is set 20k-25k years in the future from now, with mass colonization of the universe beginning ~2k-5k years from now. The butlerian jihad occurs about 10k-15k years from now and basically shuts down interstellar travel for a few centuries until people discover spice enables prescience enables space travel again. (not completely shut down travel, it just got a lot more dangerous without spice or thinking machines)

Sometimes before the butlerian jihad mass interstellar colonization occurs. It's plausible but not explicitly stated that thinking machines can fold space (in herbert's later novels in the series, technology enables folding space without spice)

There's something weird and possibly exploitable for a weapon dupe. Equip 1 weapon. Have second weapon in inventory. Have skin (u) on equipped weapon. Hover over second weapon and press left control to compare second weapon to equipped weapon. Drag second weapon onto equipped weapon, press u to customize it. I had no icon. I selected a skin. I then had two of the second weapon. The second weapon overwrote the equipped one. Then I opened up the exchange and they were back to original. I think if you quickdeposit the weapons you might overwrite weapons with what you want, thus duping weapons. Didn't try it. Let me know how it goes.

It's a great IP and the presentation and early-mid game is good, especially the early game before all challenge in surviving disappears.
Word of mouth got a lot of early sales before people hit the lategame, but now they're starting to hit the lategame and everyone's opinions are flipping. It's a shame really, if the game stayed as good as it was in the first 1/3rd into the latter 2/3rds it'd be a 10 million+ seller, I 100% believe that.

It's when you hit that mid-lategame that you realize all the buildup you were expecting out of it evaporates, everything is super easy, there's no challenge in PVE, and the PVP is literally straight out of some griefers wet dream. Even as a PVP player in other games I basically haven't been able to experience anything fun in this, despite how good the foundational combat mechanics are, because the entire framework around PVP is so bad.

The point the game really misses it's fist step is right after the starter area in hagga basin. It's excellent up to your first base around anvil, and then the problems start cropping up a little bit more and more. By the time you've moved again up to the shield wall/aluminum area, the cracks in the game are really starting to show - thopters, bindu sprint, shigawire, leap belts, dew reapers, deathstills, decaliterjons... all basically invalidate every environmental challenge or introduce massive convenience so that you never worry about surviving. You get your big final base built, ready for the deep desert and that's when it really hits, the game stalls out. Even before the deep desert it stalls out, but most players don't really recognize that and tie everything to just the deep desert alone as the culprit.

No, the game stalls out massively once you're in the aluminum area, the mystery is starting to evaporate, the difficulty vanished 50 hours ago too, you're not finding new challenges anymore, it's all the same stuff with no replayable dynamism or challenge.

They added blueprints like three years ago, but you could only blueprint a fairly small box and the prints wouldn't connect to each other, requiring manual conveyor and powerline and pipe connecting between prints. For 99% of melange requirements, you can just farm something else and buy it outright from the exchange for around 1k/ea, at least on Solitary. Running Sheol back in Hagga in a radiation suit, grabbing the four blueprints from hark base up north, the large shipwreck, shaitan's cave, and the southwest most ship can be quick cash especially with the irradiated slag sweetening the run. Diamondine Dust is also an easy run for cash every hour even if the market for it is overly saturated now. For the biggest shit like the large ore refinery or large spice refinery, you may wanna farm the spice yourself and refine in a medium refinery preferably to soften the cost. Daggers aren't trash, you're just running into standard garbage MMO design principles with leveled loot. Those exsanguinating daggers are actually somewhat desirable for the low level players who haven't got deathstills yet (you will run into higher level versions eventually), so they have utility on top of being ok for PVE (when they are properly leveled).

Swords are better for PVE but only because you can parry 1 dude and the 4 other dudes around you also get stunned by it. This really only matters in the deep desert PVE/P zones where you have to deal with 3+ melee guys trying to play grabass, but since most of the PVE in the game is piss easy and you don't have to worry about multiparry against a horde of enemies through virtually all of the content, I always found daggers more fun just because the attacks are faster.

For PVP the rapiers are better because they have dagger-like attack speed combined with reach, making it harder for people to dodge out of attacks.

The way the game is designed you unironically want the lowest pop servers for optimal play as there are virtually zero good/beneficial interactions with other players available to you. Either you go in with a guild already in mind, or fuck you. There's no in-game tools to matchup with people, DD is shoot-on-sight, most of the lategame loot is first come first served so everyone including your friends are competition for loot, and there's no repetitive replayable content unless you enjoy every fight being in 5vs1 ganks.

I really don't like quicksand, very binary, uninteractive, and stupid mechanic. They abandoned its existence pretty quickly past the starter area, thankfully.

Even as easy as it is to avoid, avoiding them is itself simply annoying. They add nothing interesting to exploration due to their binary nature and ease of avoidance. They should be less overtly dangerous (not simply hit it = fuck you) and harder to avoid. For example, only dying to that shit if you get stuck 30m inside it, not literally on the edge. With more time to do something about getting stuck (like maybe calling a friend over with a carrier thopter)

Then put them in the occasional ditch between sand dunes and you've got a mechanic where it's relatively easy to avoid them (stick to the top of dunes) and also easy to get out of/survive them unless you do something retarded like catapult off the top of a dune into the middle of one - and even then, you have avenues of escape and time to get help crying in chat or something (which itself increases player interaction and is good for the game).

I've played ATLAS at launch at first in a small group then a mega guild.
I literally fought Chinese cheaters, beating them in the first week as melee, naked and spec'd into combat while they had plate, aimbotting recoilless rifles, pistols and more numbers with lag and duped ships. I STILL beat them, almost every attempt they tried to destroy our base I wrecked them with melee combos and constant target swapping as they whiffed their shit weapons and guns at me.

Know what happened next? They copied me. I showed them how to use the melee fighting build that was wrecking them for days until they had people change their own builds to try beat me with my own build.
There was no real tutorial TikTok/Shorts for them to copy at the time because it was being dumped on and made fun of for content by streamers as they weren't bribed.

All that to say, there is no chance for innovation in this game. YouTubers/Streamers trying to make content will define the experience people will have when running into other players most of the time.

Well, look at what it does: Slows people down, and (doubles their dash costs?)

It's more of an offensive, rather than defensive weapon. You get up in someone's face, blast them (it's fast enough they will almost never dash out of it) and now you've got them slowed down for your own attacks. If it also doubles their dash stamina cost then they're in an even worse situation for your followup attacks.

If you're going to use it defensively, then suspensor blast when surrounded and shigaware out to safety I guess.

The suspensor blast feels like it'll be less effective once people adapt and stop panicking from it. The correct response to the blast is to parry, instead of panic and dash out. For that reason it'll probably end up less useful as people gain experience and PVP meta evolves. More of something that works against noobs only.

Paul's Jihad broke Kanly on day one, that's sort of the point.

Apparently the third faction is smugglers who want the war of assassins to continue because the chaos lets them profit. Fremen are obviously not dead, and just hid down south so probably we will follow in their steps and be able to learn more from them like worm riding and sand walking.

The number of sietches and total population is never explicitly stated, but everything about the planet suggests millions, probably less than tens of millions, and largely around the north pole. How many shots with The Ancient Way does it take to down a scout thopter? I cant find anything online about how the damage interaction works with thopter armor values. Ancient Way says it does 913 damage, and a Mk 4 thopter cockpit is 1500 armor, so is that just 2 shots? Or is there damage reduction somewhere in there

The fact it took them 6 years to produce what this game is, in a pre-made game engine that does all the really hard shit for them, tells me nobody on the dev team really cares about the game or takes anything they're doing seriously. The sheer amount of dead weight on the team must be staggering.

Just look at the character names when people log out - boilerplate UE blueprints. They are literally playing with pic related instead of doing actual programming in an IDE because they don't know how. This is what unreal engine is actually doing to the industry. Turning game making into some toddler shit for jeets and retards because they can't wrap their heads around anything more complex than that so we've got stuff meant for rapid prototyping going direct to fucking production. How much of the game is made like this? Quite a fucking lot I'd bet. All these dupe problems? I bet they're using blueprints for everything, including vehicles, and don't know how to modify the interactions between vehicles and the boilerplate network code because it's all opaque to them. Nobody actually wrote code, they're just connecting blueprint nodes together until something works. They probably don't even know how to convert shit to C++ to actually debug and fix anything considering network performance has actually gotten worse ever since they started trying to solve the duping issues.

I bet theres a lone junior white dude desperately trying to learn/figure out how to do any of this shit to unfuck the game while everyone else is throwing up their hands going "saaar we can't fix it saaar".
