Shun is probably the best student you can get from the initial roll because she's the only one you can't farm in any way and you're at the mercy of gacha to get her. Hina's free after 2 weeks of playing and has 2 farmable nodes. If I were you, I'd go for Shun + Aru or Hibiki because Aru and Hibiki are really painful to farm (max 3 (6 during 2x weeks) shards (used to unlock students if you don't have and to upgrade if you do).

In the lobby click on the "students" button and then in the student list click on one of portraits.
You'll see the student's equipment in the bottom right (shoes/bags/hats/gloves etc.) Equip them and then click on "level up".

No. The xp requirements for a character scale massively.
The amount of xp it takes to level up early on is so small that it won't make any impact on your endgame leveling. You could "waste" 30 levels worth of experience on a useless student and it's not going to be enough to level that student up 1 lvl towards the end.

The only thing you should worry about spending is eligma and any gold / purple books / dvds / artifacts you get.
Leveling up "bad" students to get through the early game is worth it to get cafe upgrades / pyros to spend on blufes if you need to.

Unironically be careful though. It's easy to block your own progress by running out of reports so you can't pump that one student you really need.
Progression starts in red damage, but soon you'll want a yellow and then a blue student, and soon after you'll want 2 or 3 complete teams. Early on only level students that help you progress, progression is more important than everything else.

4 3*s IS crazy good luck and getting Iori is one of the better picks, there's very little that could have gone better.
Shun is the only better 3* since she's not farmable and she's mostly a pvp / pve speedrun character, not an early game carry.
The only other thing worth mentioning is the lack of good 1/2*s like Serina, but you'll get them in no time.

Archived events can get you some more students but for at least 6-8 months, most of them will stay at 2* because shards for archived students can only be gained in larger quantities than 1 (like from lessons) only by buying them from Expert Permit shop - endgame currency you'll start getting in larger amounts once you'll hit lvl 90 (it's a compensation, you're not getting EXP anymore so the game instead gives you the currency you can buy useful stuff with).
