that uh seems like a terrible idea. those new cards don't do much except add a few new lines that end on about the same things swordsoul always ended on. swoswo is just generally too weak and fragile in this meta. their only edge is protos which can steal some games, but even that isn't nearly enough.

After having played Maliss for 5 hours now, I can confidently say I fucking hate combo slop. I'm even more convinced I need to build Sky Striker considering I'm losing most of my coinflip anyway. Its only going to be better for that deck in the future with the new support.

I have no dust to just craft the whole deck sadly, with my 8k i got less than 10 URs (8 iirc, this is the second time i get the "no URs fuck you" screen), only 4 of them were maliss related (3 dormouse an 1 underground), and i'm still missing decoder and crypter, since i got a desavewurm from the anniversary packs i'm just gonna replace firewall with terahertz, but even then i still need 300 dust and i have 75.

Depends on your deck/how the game went. If you can break a board decisively and set up your own, then most modern decks' followup+leftovers in hand are easier to beat than a full hand is. But if you've barely broken their board and are entering into what should be a simplified gamestate, then shit like Fiendsmith in the GY or an OSS can force out what little interruption you were able to put up before their 1 card combo from hand demolishes you.
Which yeah, Sky Striker isn't going to set up amazing endboards in those situations.

I got tired of wanting to go first amd always lossing the coin toss, so I made a going 2nd OTK ancient gear deck. When I tried going 2nd decks with the usual handtraps to limit their solitaire board building and it often does very little because a lot of decks have so much gas that a negate or 2 is a small hurdle that barely changes their end board plans. A board breaker card that can't be responded to is usually more effect but had the disadvantage that you have to sit through your opponent's first turn solitaire, it gets even worse if they build a board and then handrip the boardbreaker after combo-ing for days.

I used to love normal summoning Fabled Raven, using it's effect to discard DW monsters that summon themselves, and making synchros

Because it doesn't have a uniform playstyle and it has no searchers, even fucking dinosaur could work with 3 fossil dig and only 1 of each generic dino assuming you didn't draw archosaur or pill (or could shuffle them). Insects don't work like that.

If there's an archetype that deserves both a ROTA and a THE LINK-1 THAT SEARCHES THE, it's insect.

You can justify going a bit above 40 cards more than before to help with that because it has its own counter to Maxx C now, but it still has some serious weaknesses.

I've been on blind second Musket pretty much since FS dropped and been up against Maliss a bunch now. I've played Scareclaw a fair bit in the past too.

The deck is total fucking aids. At least if you can get a proper Triheart lineup he could punch all the shitters they will inevitably summon I guess (Banish Binder to summon, trigger her to banish 3x Maliss cards)
Problem is its not just the board and negates and banishes - the standard Maliss line draws like 3 - 5 fucking cards (Chessy, Binder, Allure). You better believe if they combo that you are getting Maxx C'd, Nibiru'd or otherwise swimming through handtraps.
You could consider Reboot though, then at least they need to use March to trigger banishes.

I'm personally neutral about Maliss.
Statistically, everyone knows that for most decks, your chances of winning going first are significantly higher than going second. This is an undeniable fact.
Modern decks can also play through a lot of handtraps thanks to the bullshit due to Konami's CAC design of cards.
I haven't calculated the odds yet but from my own personal experience, with a playset of Lancea and Chaos Hunter, you are going to often them very often.
It's a shame they don't work well against other decks but Maliss has been very prevalent, and unlike other decks that can play through disruption those stop them right there unless they draw their limited outs.

Put a lot of time into theorycrafting Battlewasp stuff last night, partly since I figured I would probably pull all of the cards for it while pulling for Maliss.
Decklist + some thoughts.

>Your main 'line' is essentially just Rapier the Onslaught, since by going through your little combo you end up searching through every other insect in your deck.
>You end on 2/5 interruptions + a board nuke (Usually Cicada King + Heavy Cavalry + Grand Partisan), kind of a similar ceiling to Millennium.
>This deck can't really play through targeted disruption on Rapier. It's the exact same problem Ragnaraika or Genex has where they have one starter in their deck that's just better then every other card put together.
>If you don't draw Armed Rebeelion, Rapier, or Resonance Insect you have to rely on this alternative line where you use picofalena to equip resonance insect from deck. The Deck can't really support that because it dies to interruption and you can't summon three bodies and have the appropriate amount of discards in hand left.

In general. Decks really really hurt by their not being good insects to send to the GY. The minute they add insects that let you add more insects to hand when they are pitched (So like, an archetype of Gokipoles, essentially) a list like this will be a lot better.

At least all relevant community tournaments with a bo3 + side deck (like torneio semanal, fountain cup etc.) are there so I can make my own informed decisions based on that.
I think that tierlist page is bullshit because it mixes up dgayed's "meta weekly" which has no side deck with multiple other tournament formats.

everyone knows the meme of branded dies to ash and they will hold their ash for brafu, so if you never actually go for it, you will basically just have free reign to do whatever and not get ash'd, except maybe at the last moment when they realize what you're doing, and it's too late by then. if they only have impulse, same thing.
obviously sometimes raw brafu is your only option and if that gets ash'd you just have to fold and leave, but if you really think modern branded is so hard countered by one search/summon negate, you haven't played enough branded
