There is probably not a single uma in the first year of launch that are "must-pulls", just "recommended" if you care about Champion's Meeting (PVP event styled in Grand Prix format where you need to win 3/5 races a day to advance to the next round).
The reason why these horses are recommended are usually due to being premium versions of F2P horses i.e. Curren Chan being premium sprinter, Smart Falcon being premium Dirt racer, etc.
Support cards are still the most important thing overall since they are what make your horses actually stronger in their campaign runs in the first place. Having a large assortment of umas but not strong enough supports to raise them feels bad.
