I think it also took me a while to grasp the elemental system, as when I came across N/A Dogoos, realized non-elemental attacks weren't doing anything, and switched to elemental attacks only for most of them to not do much damage either. That's when I took a look and realized most of these "elemental" attacks were only PARTIALLY elemental, with the other part of the damage calculated as if it were non-elemental. And very few characters in VII have attacks that are fully elemental, chief among them Rom and Ram. Some don't have ANY elemental attacks at all, or only as part of Formation/Coupling Skills, like poor Uzume. So those characters would be completely helpless against such enemies. It's a change from the Re;Births where attacks were simply either magical or elemental, and both physical and magic elemental attacks existed, so characters had options for the most part. The system in VII effectively gave Rom and Ram a monopoly over magic and elements. It's one of the dumbest changes Compile Heart ever implemented. In many ways, I've realized VII was in fact two steps forward, one step back for the series. Presentation was improved dramatically, but some gameplay decisions were questionable.

Nothing in VII is hard except Nitroplus DLC battles (at the time you unlock them anyway) and some of the coliseum fights. The entire main story is pretty trivial. Old school Dragon Warrior is much more challenging let alone the more hardcore jrpgs.

Yesterday was the Tanabata, a holiday in Japan that is VERY relevant to these two star-crossed lovers. In particular, Otsuu as well as the Metropolitan Office and its Nightmare are all themed around it. It ties well into her whole character and her story, and it's one of my favorite things about Mary Skelter, it uses its fairy tale inspirations surprisingly well, at least in the first two games.

In the first dungeon, it felt like a verbatim clone of Sisters vs. Sisters with improvements to the world map and store/base building systems, however the main annoyances about SVS (endless running coupled with fights that barely pose a challenge) took me very long to finish because it couldn't hold my attention for too long.

Actually, nevermind the gameplay and the soundtrack. This game has neps which are actually pleasing to look at from behind when you roam the dungeons, notably, Reedio and her plump derriere emphasized by the swimsuit. Swaying breasts are visible from behind when she's running, too. She makes me want to keep playing and keep the camera zoom on the nearest setting, no matter if it's focused on her rear or her cute face and her innocent blue eyes...
I like that this game finally introduced some in-dungeon eyecandy with more mature Neps, but why just one character?! The rest don't exude the same appeal Reedio does.
Two hours in and I already want to marry this dork.

I will say the Graveyard remix was a pleasant surprise though even if it is overused. Given their insistence on reusing music I am surprised we never got anything from 2010. That and stuff like Victory's Purple Heart or Prelude to Battle only remaining in V and RB3.

To me neither SVS nor GMRE are fun to play with battles at all, and I actually enjoyed the bike challenges more as basic as they were. I just enjoy the story and aesthetics, of which SVS is better but I enjoyed both. Only the re;birth games had any fun battles, although those were all optional content, and the only nep games that are fun to play the whole time are the mini shooter ones.

Otherwise, you WILL die. This game requires all of this to ensure smooth progression even if you take on all the side quests on your way.
I kind of hate how trivial the battles in GMRE have become. I'd kill for a Nep Souls difficulty level and a battle system that doesn't rely solely on stunlocks or one game disc trait that absolutely breaks the game.
