You want Wonder to have a Bless or Curse option and a Psi or Nuke option for the summons that the main body puts out.

There still isn't a character that does quite what Ryuji does to a single target in a single hit. It's a very specialized niche, but it does exist. Also there still isn't any new curse characters (well a new one JUST come out) so the Jonkler remains relevant when you need to do a lot of curse damage to a lot of targets at once. Hardly at all outside of removing a few skills that would snap the game in half in your favor. Baton pass is still a thing and extremely effective, all out attacks are still a thing and extremely effective, the only real change is that the enemies were buffed dramatically to create a need for more grind but even that can be ignored by grizzled SMT vets and honestly makes it even more fun like when you have to fight two Nocturne style matadors at the same time.

That'd probably be the most controversial "dumbing down", BUT unlike "extra turns" (which Joker has as a mechanic) is doesn't count for turn timers which challenges will utilize for scores.
*Some enemy mechanics (like the Matador minibosses) also have gimmicks on the types of actions you take, where 1More and Highlights bypass said gimmick too. They are intelligently designing around the mechanic changes.

All Out Attacks no longer like eat all your turns and shit, they're just pure upside if they can be facilitated.

Highlights are purely new. They have a teamwide bar that charges, and basically occur once every team cycle. You can use them on any of your turns as another out-of-turn action, each character incurs an individual cooldown of ~4 turns when they use their Highlight. The effects of Highlights vary by individual, even within the same Elements or Roles.

Navs are also another out-of-turn action, their various abilities incur cooldowns of varying lengths. You can activate Navs at the same time as Highlights. Navs all work wildly differently based on the individual.

Elemental Status effects no longer involve hard crowd control (or the retardation where your Melee attacks pulled enemy Shock onto you) and now have more interactions with other elements and/or mechanics.
The nonelemental status effects (Dizzy, Forget, etc) remain basically the same.

tl;dr - The combat is smoother and adds more depth and decisions.
And the daily life sections are "You can do whatever eventually" rather than making an autistic spreadsheet.

I think HSR's combat could have been amazing if they made all basic attacks an actual ability that does something (yes I know sometimes a talent applies to them. Not the same, and boring), and some character's basic was neutral SP (every DPS basic is especially god awful and should have just not gained or spent SP but been more interesting and neutral), and every character had a 4th ability which is a neutral that doesn't spend nor build SP or a 2nd spender in the case of DPS.

I only played it before because Penacony finally gave a good story, and it was the only servivable turn based GaaS in existence.
