What a "gimmick" is will depend on who you're asking. Some people will say wilds doesn't have gimmicks while others will say it's full of gimmicks and the same with other games. Most people like the gimmicks which is why they keep buying. They're a selling point. I agree that the shelling types don't feel different, I am not sure I understand what you mean by the moveset feeling cluttered and redundant, the different flow routes depending on monster speed are fairly unique to GL making it feel very expressive and rewarding to use multiple different combos.

No I do mean more, Rise with the addition of Wirebugs gave the weapons many more uses compared to world, not nearly as much as GU but with how world basically had one way to play each weapon Rise gave them more wiggle room and raised the ceiling for APM and output of each weapon, even giving some entirely different ways to play compared to World. You seem to be misunderstanding, the difference is not in the best attack chain, but the ways to build up into the optimal attack chain, and ways to combat the monster. Of course the best or meta way will be the same as the numbers will dictate it, but the general way to play is vastly different between World and Rise, have you not played them both at the end of the life cycles? A bit of an extreme example would be Lance, World is very tech related in using each move for repositioning, but in Rise its heavily reliant on countering a monsters move with parries and only slight movement.

I would not disagree just to disagree, it is a fair observation to say a lot of weapon can and often do boil down to just pressing a counter button, and do not worry my friend I even agree that for the most part the weapons in world asked more of the player due to the very nature of the game. However I do disagree that GS, LS, CB, had less options than world did, purely because:
GS got a new faster basic combo
LS was able to change between a different spirit combo
CB was had an entirely new axe mode focus that world didn't have
