Reminds me Broly at the beginning has this theme about fathers too! King Vegeta sees Vegeta as just a tool to show off his power, Paragus cares about Broly but for his own means, while Bardock unconditionally loves Goku and saved him once he felt Freeza may try to kill the saiyans.

The DB world is now way too rigid and defined. Unless you go crazy with it it's going to be really hard to do something. The characters are too powerful, the universe has been explored. The only direction up is "gods" but even that gets old. You need to have more projects like Daima (except well executed) that introduce something completely new, even if they have to disregard existing elements that make it impossible. We need to escape from the "alien-transformation-fight" hell we're stuck in.

I was thinking about Sparking Zero. It may not have done a good job at capturing the old BT games, but I still think they did a decent enough job given all the characters they had to make from scratch. I still think they had to rush the game out of the door, not sure if it was because of Daima’s release date or to fit in with the October release that all the BTs had, or whatever, but the guy that first announced it said it was in early development a year before it came out, and it definitely needed another year after that in development.


Despite that, I think it has some really well done bits to it and it shows that all these studios are capable of doing something good, their regular budgets and schedules are just inadequate.

It also tells me no matter how hard you try to focus on visuals, you have to have people who are actually experienced with it otherwise things are still going to look awkward or bad. I was watching a few cutscenes the other day and the way the characters moved and their expressions looked so rough I had to skip back to the fight. It was awful. But I understand Spike’s Dilemma. This is the first time in like 15 years that they’ve had to make a game actually look like it’s anime, and to top it off, they had to work with a relatively recent, very experimental art style that DB has only ever used twice and then they had to apply that to characters who weren’t even in the movie.

Thinking of it, we've talked plenty on how a 7th Stand User-like DB fangame could be, and Tuffle Quest could pretty much be it... Maybe when choosing a male or female character, you pick either Acer or Mapple, and the one you didn't pick is still around remains a major supporting character.

Though it'd probably work better to just have both of them and at times you can switch between both.

7SU and Tuffle Quest even have this "MC helps the other characters develop their powers a little more" (On top of extension of Stand powers, in 7SU you can also have Jotaro learn how to use the Ripple), though it's not like that kind of thing is novel, but I noticed a similar level of effort to follow the rules of the setting.

Hm... Well from what I was told Chaozu at some point trains with Hearts and that eventually leads into him learning how to stop time (Sounds absurd given Heart's powers but who knows what kind of justification it gets), so maybe it's not just a "everyone gets Kaioken" kind of situation.

Although there seems to be derivatives of it, there was a mention of another version of it that only increases speed, but Goku used it with SS3 (I think it was Goku?).

So I'm not sure it necessarily means everyone gets Kaioken... At least with Mapple she's developing other powers (Though a little annoying it's called "Clothes Beam", and I feel that TFS reference isn't leaving), but that leaves the possibility everyone else getting weird powers, hopefully it's fitting.

Although even if everyone else develops in ways that sets them apart just enough, I just hope the story avoids the other issue with "everyone is strong" kind of stories, namely that they slow the story the hell down because everyone just has to fight, since the best way to do that is only have a few characters around in each arc, basically a cast rotation, and even doing that has its own issues because you shouldn't think of it as a checklist...
