I don't know guys, i'm not against characters being hardasses or being mean if they have and actual reason to be like that.
I know here a lot anons hate archie, but that book had 3 characters that had good reasons to be dicks: tails parents and specially one that was named Hamlin pig.
That guy had actual reasons to hate sonic, and be a hardass that liked to do things by the book and rules.
That guy was frustrated, because he was trained to be a soldier and barely saw action. He joined the council because the kingdom had actual rules to follow, while he was just another member of a group of seven people + the king.
He hated sonic because he hates how sonic just relied on brute force without thinking his actions could have consequences, while ignoring the actual rules of the kingdom he tried to protect.
With lanolin, is differently because she was just a newbie who started to boss around people that had actual time and action in a war, she wanted to follow rules but in the end she blew it with how she tried to deal with situations.
Is pretty clear abt had way more crude plans for her looking at his Twitter posts, about her family problems, eggman pstd, her bad character, and how she saw sonic as problematic as eggman for her own reasons, at the point she had real actual anger issues, dealing with actual anger madness but in the end none of that info got into the actual comic.
Maybe if she was higher in the restoration rank I would believe it. But in the end she was just a newbie, so her story and character personality never panned out. To he honest, I liked her more when she was just a civil being so done because she was always in the middle of sonic shenanigans, if she would have stayed like that, maybe she could have been a better character when she was promoted as a main character.

Shadria is self insert garbage, they were never romantically in love, that's a headcanon you're obsessed with because you're severely autistic. Only insane mentally-ill people see hallucinations, being Shadria one of those. Touch grass.

No, I'm sick and tired of making excuses for the people who write and are in charge of this franchise. If these idiots cannot write to save their lives then I'm not going to bother pretending like they had some grand vision of her from the start. Lanolin's entire character is just bad ideas stacked on op of more bad ideas. And that's not me assuming that her character wasn't deliberately made in bad will to spite the IP to begin with which I do believe is the case.

In any other industry of commercial field, these people would have been fired years ago and I'm tired of giving them grace for constant failure after failure on even the most basic shit for what should be a relatively simple franchise to write for.

Nothing about Sonic is hard to grasp. None of these characters are so nuanced that they are difficult to write for. IDW is in the state that it's in because none of the fucking staff are giving a fuck about what they're being paid to do and these people should genuinely lose their fucking jobs over it. As of right the past 4 fucking issues have had almost nothing happen to them and the fact that they are getting paid to make this horse shit honestly makes me fucking angry.

Does Sonic need recurring villains? I noticed people talking about this with the DC Crossover. Comic heroes like the Justice League have them because it's the nature of longform media. Their stories have been told over countless comic strips, books, and franchise reboots for nearly a century. Unlike Sonic stories which are generally made for standalone release. I can't think of many video game characters at all who have lasting iconic rogues gallery like Spidey or Batman do. It's usually that ONE bad guy from the earliest iterations that everybody knows. Bowser, Ganon, Ridley, Team Rocket, Sephiroth, Dr. Wily, or our very own Dr. Eggman.

Going off of Maekawa's posts about there being a connection between Rush and '06 that wasn't the official scenario, I'd say that reincarnation theory was probably his intent and Burning Blaze at the end of '06 was meant to indicate this. Dreams of Absolution is ostensibly about Silver and Blaze and he made some post about being ashamed of the ending of '06 but at least we got the song out of it. Forget Tails, SONIC is too powerful. It's already hard enough actually designing a game around Sonic's true, actual speed. Not just in sheer "how fast can he go", but all of his acrobatic, agile, parkour, freerunning skills as well, and the momentum that carries it all. Set Sonic loose in a 3D space and he should be fully capable of just launching himself through the air at high speed, soaring over everything until he lands. If Sonic has to be super-nerfed so he's stuck on the ground and can't just use his speed to launch himself into the stratosphere, then what hope does Tails have? Tails, whose defining ability is flying fast enough to keep up with Sonic.

Tails is a "Flyer", like Peter Pan, like Superman. In the context of a high-speed action platformer like Sonic, that seems to be inherently broken. Just, automatically, it is literally Sonic but BETTER. The kind of thing that Sonic needs to go super just to replicate, Tails has as his primary ability. It makes sense, he's the kid sidekick, so having this broken ability that's better than Sonic reflects his potential to go beyond. But still, "Gameifying" it is the important factor, especially since it shouldn't be nerfed so hard just to build a game around it. Because then, it doesn't feel like Tails anymore.

So many 3D fangames have that potential for Sonic to launch himself into space, because that's what having momentum + super speed in a 3D environment will do. In my opinion, if you try to capture Sonic CD's opening and truly design a game that makes you feel like SONIC, this is what you should get. But what makes Sonic CD's opening cool is how Sonic traverses the ENVIRONMENT. That is the key factor here. Not Sonic himself, it's the zone he's in.

The key to properly designing a game around Sonic's Speed & Tails' Flying is to create levels that actually challenge and obstruct that speed and flight, rather than nerfing those abilities themselves.
