If you’re just focusing on either strength or dex and not both the soft cap for damage stats in Elden Ring is 80 but it’s really not necessary. You can easily split between str and dex and end up at 40/40 by the end of the game and you’ll still be fine. You just need to decide which weapon you want to use and just pump the stat that weapons scales the most with whenever you can. At the end of the day though don’t feel like you’ve ever made an irreversible mistake when it comes to stats, respecting stats is easier than ever in ER. Basically just don’t worry, level whatever you think you need the most at the moment. Even if you fuck up your stats it’s easy to fix.

Vigor scales the best in the game in terms of player power. Going from 21 vigor to 31 vigor is over 50% increased health and that further scales with armor. That is just 10 points in vigor. Compare that to if you put 10 points into str or dex its just 15-20% % more damage maybe less depending on the weapon.

There's no point in pumping damage stats so early on. The scaling benefit from them doesn't really kick in until high weapon upgrade levels which you won't get for a long time. Yeah it’s pretty good, I think it’s mostly a quality weapon but it leans a bit more towards dex so either focus all in on dex or split between both, you probably won’t notice a big damage difference either way. You can see exactly how much your damage with the weapon you’re currently wielding will increase depending on which stat you level. So if you put a few points into dex (but before actually hitting confirm on the level up menu) you’ll see the damage number of your equipped weapon turn blue showing you the damage increase if you do hit confirm. As long as the blue number increases by about 2 or 3 per level you invest in that stat then that’s the right stat you should be investing into if you wanna use that weapon.

Something I really like in Elden Ring compared to Dark Souls is the ability to control how much you charge up heavy attacks. I remember in DS the black knight sword and the claymore had the same heavy attack but the black knight sword's version was way slower but more powerful. Augur is kinda dumb but I really like using different methods to mass-pop the jellyfish with whatever I got during the run. You can have moon spells on non legendary staves from forts too, and carian regal staff is part of duchesses loot pool in my experience
Terra magica is something you really only get to use when the enemy is slow (fast enemies/bosses get aggroed on you because the melees are chasing it while you are casting spells and the cast input is enough to aggro them rather than the projectile hitting them)
I would argue that duchess should get some credit for the team damage if she is constantly restage cycling damage, status effects AND stagger values with her skill and the dagger restage relic effect
Duchess still deals a lot of damage with sacred seals if you find something that the nightlord is weak to
In solo where there's no team damage to restage, she is way safer ( and so has more opportunities to deal damage) in any range against all enemies
I haven't tested dps numbers while sitting at the training grounds against the dummies who don't do shit, so these observations are all from real runs. I would still guess that dagger spamming R1 with the restage relic competes in dps with the typical single target spells you usually find.

Cocktails are situational and should be used situationally. If you have a strong staff spell you wanna spam then using residue gathering just for FP recovery is fine, throw out the cocktail and forget about it. But if one of your cocktails can be used for good effect against your target then go ahead and do that. Lightning stake will break Libra's shield, for instance, so I always try to have that in the chamber during Libra fights to drop it as soon as he puts the shield up.

Infinite FP is almost always useful. Holy flamethrower and gravity bomb are great for group encounters. Lightning blade is great against Maris. Both will-o-wisp and molotov are good against Caligo and Gnoster. They're spells, so use them as needed, same as any other spell.
