You're talking like Starlight Stage was a recent release but it was launched in 2015 and not all phones were capable of displaying 3D models without pushing itself hard (thus, has the 2D MV option). That was fair in its day and even allowed a large number of people to be able to install it on their current phones. Also, SS didn't start out with its full roster upon release.

The only recent iM@S rhythm game I could think of that didn't have full 3D models would be Growing Stars.

Two of them are still Sense so it doesn't help too much in the end since you wouldn't be using them even as a secondary in contests/idol road anyway if you have proper limited cards. Kotone's impression card is still useful so that's a straight buff to her utility.
