xiv isn't a bad game per se, its just fundamentally a story driven game with a lacking endgame (because that isn't really the focus). You are supposed to come back every year or so, play through the content, then quit for another year. It is kind of like Warframe. WoW is more of a steady mmo that you can basically play year round and not run out of content, at least in recent expacs. Older expacs like WoD has some super rough content droughts too though.
WoW's blind spots by comparison have always been solo content and social activities outside of raids/dungeons. But blizz has been attempting to solve both of these issues with delves (big success thus far) and housing (looking good from what we've seen) respectively.

Yeah it was. Metzen came in and said the story they wanted to tell wasn't suited for 1 expansion. So the original post launch content got turned into expansion 2 and 3 of the WSS.
Then they had to make new stuff for post launch WW content. This was revealed at Pax. This guy's talking out his ass.
