If none of that is an issue with you, then sure go right ahead. The game is beatable as a pure f2p, though you will have to work for it and level up your Servants over a few weeks/months but despite the harsh gacha, the game is generous, and the powercreep generally is limited to support-type Servants they release like once a year. You will have to get intimately familiar with the gameplay because a lot of the story fights have lots of gimmicks worked into them based on context. But that's generally not a problem because you can borrow your friends' OP Servants for almost every fight so at the end of the day, it's not too bad IMO.
Worst case, if you get sick of the game but still want the story, you could read the text dumps or watch Youtube videos.
The game's daily grind requirement is basically doing 3 fights a day minimum, so as long as you log in once a day every day (login reset is 0300 UTC) you should be able to collect most of the rewards. There are other shit like limited time missions during events and stuff but you can worry about that once you finish the tutorial and figure out what you're doing. If you want friends, just post your friend code here. Most people won't bite, probably.
The game's anniversary event is going on right now too so if you want free gibs, now's the time to start.
