Enemies are mobile enough that he’d constantly need to be moving so you couldn’t just safely turtle forever, you’d need to actually be good at never getting hit to stay alive, and his dogshit damage might improve if he could safely attack more often.

There's a lot of weapon knowledge we just take for granted that will be a pretty serious learning curve for you.
Nightreign is super newb friendly as far as the gameplay goes but extremely hostile with how it hides stats and you'll miss the slow ramp up of combat speed from Dark Souls sluggish enemies to Elden Ring delayed spastics that we've gone through following the franchise. Well, it doesn't really matter, we were gonna lose anyways, it was an absolutely atrocious run. The Raider rushed to the castle day 1 at level 4, shortly followed by the Duchess and both spent most of day 1 dying to the basement boss. Then they proceeded to spend most of day 2 dying to the castle top boss.

that's mostly fine. basically you do ruins/great churches/forts/camps until level 5-6. also grab flasks on the way. also kill regular field bosses on the way.
then you go castle and that should put you high enough level.
after night 1, you should go kill red eyed field bosses + do shifting earth if there is one.
fit evergaols wherever. they adapt to your level and usually aren't too hard. keys are found in great churches or forts.

He keeps setting markers and rushing off to fight things like evergaols or forts literally first thing, instead of clearing the camp that the bird naturally takes you for the easy level. I couldn't finish Ranni's quest on my own, because I missed the talk prompt at the grace. Fromsoft was too clever with that one.

I never did Rya's necklace quest in Liurnia. Simply didn't find her. I guess my route went wide around her and Patches somehow. And so I never got the prawn shack guy to like me.
The Dung eater never invaded me, because I didn't visit his invasion zone after freeing him. This is in part due to the fact that I never found the prawn guy in that spot, since he never moved there. So I had to reason to return to that spot after I found the Dung eater
I didn't get heal Millicent until late in the game. So when she started her journey, I had no idea where she went. I never talked to her on the hill in the Atlus Plateau, because I already cleared that zone, and didn't think to return randomly.
Somehow I managed to find the 3 fingers. Without Hyetta though, because I never found all of her grapes.
I never finished Nepheli's quest, because as I found out later: there's a peculiarity with how the game resets the NPCs at Godrick's boss room. Despite me returning there multiple times to check on the gatekeeper Gostoc, I never actually sat at the grace, after Nepheli was ready to take the throne. I had to rest at that specific grace in order to reset the area.

So yeah, despite taking my time, and doing due diligence, I still missed a whole lot. And I totally blame Fromsoft's shitty quest design for all of it. You just got lucky that you did most of it in the "correct" order your first time.

Just played with randoms so terrible that Smelter Demon turned blue.
Had an Ironeye who wasn't marking, just shooting 20 dmg shots from max lock-on range and a Rev who cast a few fire spells at the obviously fire boss a few times till out of FP and didn't re-summon after her first minion died.

Yep. Godwyn dying was supposed to be part of the plan, to break the Elden Ring as a part of Marika trying to free herself from the Greater Will.

Ranni, meanwhile, decided to go one step further. She knew that simply breaking the chains of the Elden Ring was a great first step, but without a followup plan was meaningless because the Greater Will or some other Outer God would just come back and enslave the world again. There are too many cosmic forces trying to control the lands between (the forge god of the giants and the god of the dragons already ruled before the Greater Will did, and the flame of frenzy, the formless mother, and the rot god are all actively trying to gain footholds and take over) a divine power vacuum will inevitably be filled and its foolish to pretend otherwise. .

So Ranni played 4d chess to install the Darkmoon was the new divine power of the realm, because the Darkmoon doesn't *do* anything. It keeps another god from stepping in and taking over but it doesn't meddle with mortal affairs at all, it just cockblocks other gods.

And, for that plan to work, Ranni needed to give up her empyrean flesh without dying. So she came up with a way so that Ranni could die the death of the flesh without the death of the soul, while Godwyn died the death of the soul but not the flesh. Splitting the death between them, which positioned Ranni to advance her plans while Marika was left in the lurch.

No we already know Ranni’s plan, to kill Godwyn’s soul at the same time as she killed her body so she could be free from the control of the two fingers. We know two for certain things about Marika: 1. She did not give a shit about any of her children and was willing to sacrifice any of them, and 2. She saw that her age of everlasting life without death was never going to work in the end. Sacrificing her own son as a martyr to the thing she once locked away would have been a powerful way to reintroduce the Rune of Death to the Elden Ring. Beyond that we don’t know much about Marika’s motivations which is obviously intentional but the reason I think Marika had to have been originally in cahoots with Ranni is because Ranni was somehow able to get manipulate two things Marika is heavily associated with: the Black Knife Assassins, and Maliketh. The actual knives the assassin wielded are very clearly just warped versions of the blade of calling and Melina has literally the exact same animations as the Black Knife Assassins. It makes little sense that Ranni inexplicably wrestled control of these things away from Marika and rather it makes a lot more sense if Marika and Ranni’s plot was originally the same, release the rune of death and kill the fingers/Elden Beast so that both of them could be free. Clearly that wasn’t enough for Ranni.

Hard to say exactly why but for some reason sending him and the tarnished off to die far away somehow made them stronger. Possibly it allowed them to become disconnected from the control of the two fingers and the Erdtree burial system. She specifically took grace away which is what prevents people from dying but she gives it back when she calls them to the Lands Between. However she also slowly begins to take it away again from people one by one like Boggart, Corhin, Bernahl, Varre, almost like she’s slowly narrowing down the contenders until the only two worthy ones left are the player and Godfrey.

if you're one of the "after beating every boss once the game is over" then yeah, it's over for you.
i personally like playing all characters, mastering all characters, mastering all bosses with all characters.
even now i still lose against everdarks from time to time, so i'm not done yet. i'd also like to play well with every single character, and have strong relics for all of them.

also the story content is in the remembrances of every character. if you'd like to see it you have to do those for every nightfarer.

Recluse is unambiguously the most complicated one to play, because of her different elemental spell combos.

Ironeye is the easymode chill and kill character. The distance your bow affords you lets you not have to worry about half of the boss attacks if you pay even a little attention, and both of his skills are strong both offensively and as utility. He does less damage per hit, but can continue to apply that damage consistently without having to dance around boss attacks as much as the others.

Guess it depends on your preference but I think Wylder is the most fun because he feels the most versatile. His grappling hook can be used to get around the map quicker, it’s incredibly invaluable for keeping up with mobile bosses like red wolf and gargoyle so you don’t have to waste time running after them like the other melee classes do, you can run away from a boss’ giga nuke aoe (of which there are a lot in this game) and then quickly reengage in an instant, and you can even use it to dodge big attacks attacks like 3bug’s opening charge or caligo’s hail shower dive. Plus it just feels fun to use. His ult is useful in almost every situation and basically guarantees a free crit on most enemies, and depending on how much you charge it’ll do a bigger boom or launch you back which you can follow up with a reengage. And because he’s basically the dedicated quality character he can use aknots any weapon in the game except sorceries and incantations.

It isn't the outward control of the 2 fingers that does it, it is the step by step and moment decisions the godling will accept to further itself. It will eventually become chains that bind. Golden ropes if you will.

She has a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling. You can beat nightlords just fine by simply finding a good staff, using cocktail purely for fp regen, and throwing out whatever mixture you get at random. But of course until you actually learn what all of her spells do and what elements you need for them you’re leaving a lot of her potential on the table.

I considered doing a meme consumables build after getting a random relevant relic, but it only increased the pot damage by about 10 points. It was similar for knives, but I doubt I'd have enough of them for it to matter
