Scavkour Edition

>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, Civilization, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Scav Prototype, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

The normal OP is taking a nap and I had no appropriate webms of my own, had to come up with something quick before the thread archived, borrowed a Scav one from the last thread (thanks btw) cause like it or not it gets talked about enough to warrant it. Last thread started with it so might as well repeat it for this one

Hopefully there's no spaz attacks about it that last from when you go to work til when you come home

>Any thoughts on the game?
Just distilled gungame fun. Very unrestrictive. Use whatever against whoever in whichever way you like, and game won't punish you or force to switch to a different build, in a way it even encourages sequence breaking with destructible terrain and creative ability usage. Very progression heavy, really opens up in the second half of the game.
>Length?
About 10-12 hours for 100% (i also kinda suck at bibeogames). Free dlc releases this summer too, so i expect like 3-4 more hours of content.
>Movement?
Fun, but very heavily progression focused. You get additional hook grapples per jump, more doublejumps, movement perks, etc. A bit slower in the beginning, but just base hoverboarding is fun. For some reason dev removed the option to disable backflips (due to some perks utilizing them) but they're kinda clunky and you will often do them accidentally.
>Difficulty?
Varies. If you can be a masochistic retard (like me), you can only run bolt snipers without OP perks and focus on pure movement, and intentionally pick harder levels. Game is completely open and you can go wherever you want from the very beginning, but some areas are ability locked. You can sequencebreak them easily if you want to, though.

Overall probably one of my favorite FPSes in recent years, but it appeals to the specific open-world, freedom-driven autism i have heavily. Might not be your cup of tea if you prefer more curated stuff.

it's just Fine, imo. the pokemon-metroidvania mashup is interesting in theory, but the platforming isn't fun and the level design is bland, so i never found myself particularly motivated to explore. the combat is the highlight of the game, it genuinely is good and allows for a lot of different team comps, but it starts to get really annoyingly grindy around the midgame. the monster designs are mostly kinda bad and unmemorable, obviously that's up to personal taste but if you ask me designs are the most important thing in a creature collector so i'd take a look at the roster and see how you feel about it
overall i'd say it's worth a buy if you really like creature collectors, but it wouldn't be my first recommendation. cassette beasts is better if you want a more traditional pokemonlike with some platforming/metroidvania stuff and siralim ultimate is better if you want pure teambuilding autism

Just do what I do. Watch LP's of games that seem difficult and then come to /vg/ and make fun of people who ask questions, saying that you understood it fine the first time you played it (which is technically the truth).

Piratesoftware decided to make his own movement and text systems for gamemaker instead of using the baked in version. This is so retarded I don't even know how to express my confusion. It's like if you bought a pizza with pepperoni and took out the pepperoni to put your own half spoiled sausage on top of it. You could have bought a normal pizza instead, you could have been normal and ate the pizza the cooks. But you decided to be stupid.

Once "respected" (I always thought he was a cuck) creator who fell from grace, people love mocking stupid people who say stupid shit too

Also, there's over a fucking decade of dirt on the guy, think he was a degenerate in second life back in the day, and he takes care of orphaned ferrets, and because of that, or maybe resulting from it, he has a ferret fursona, I've seen the pics but I don't have them saved. Might be a kiwifarms thread on the guy

Personally I knew he was shady the moment I first saw him. The first clip I saw was one on twitch bans where he is blatantly wrong, the second I saw he just straight up lied about internet security while claiming to be an expert. Most of the things are so blatantly false that you can google them and get a completely different answer.
But when you voice your concerns about any of that or try to correct anything you just get spammed with "who cares?" by the fans.

Vicarious visions clearly put a lot of care in this remake but considering they were owned by activision I guess they were likely milked, stripped and killed off and the remains of the company got renamed to something stupid like "Activision blizzard vague-geographical-location" and forced to work on call of duties like all of their other subsidiaries.

I recommend Beastieball if you want a pokeclone anon(s).
The "combat" system is great and the beasties feel unique/stylised enough to not feel like D tier Pokemon in the way Temtems do.
Only major downsides are PVP being limited to room codes and events as the playerbase can't support a permanent queue yet, and the art assets not being finished because it's still in early access. One of the better early access games I've played, you can do everything up to and including the pretty decent post-game, but some of the beastie animations aren't finished yet.

God I absolutely despise belgrade, the worst is the freaking guards who just jankily empties their gun fighting you so you're fucking struggling to find ammo the entire time, doesnt help that all the enemies are bullet sponges. Still feel kindbof pissed off because I had to redo the entire level as the end boss is literally impossible if you go the hostile route (you get overwhelmed nigh instantly because there is like 20 fucking robot bumrushing you at once), so I had to spoil myslef and find another way to complete it.

Like sure I liked the vibe at first, but dying to bullshit enemies who still shoot you for 5 to 6 sec after death as their loose gun just flail around, multiple times in a row, is just straight bullshit. Especially with how you can only save in seemingly random areas with no real consistency (,one stop a one way corridor, another a airduct in an office, another in a corridor between the halls, etc.), so figuring out the level at first is pure undiluted pain as the enemies start springing from all over with pin point precision.

Dunnos about lain and sewerslvt, but I guess its kind of share vibes with EYE except replace Brouzouf and religious fanatism with post-ussr collapse disillusionment and neo-communism that threat communist leaders lineage like some prophetic genetics line that will bring about a return to the glory days of ussr vs remnant of UN/western cointel trying to keep control but barely caring a out the overall status quo of perpetual misery of life in super commieblocks the size of skyscrapers.

Like less technological marvel and religious iconography, but more down to earth dystopian feeling and survivors killing each others over ideological mumbojumbo that barely understand the source material they're quoting.

Basically good ol Slavic cynicism with a coat of cyberpunk for flavor.

No idea man. I had that it's going to release into early access and I hate that it's a 50/50 if it's even going to be good. I mean the novelty the first game had is gone, so this has to be real damn good to live up to that. And if they decide this game need to have a story that's front and center I'm ready to bet that it'll turn out shit.

Despite all the screeching about Citadel being guro which it is, it's a fantastic shooter, and its sequel is even better. As for the guro stuff, it's tolerable since there's no nudity. As long as I don't view it as something you're supposed to fap to (I don't think the dev even intended this in the final product), it's just more video game violence. Seriously though, Beyond Citadel is amazing.

I came to the conclusion that the boss was unkillable, and that I'd locked myself. Those robots have unlimited jump range. I've tried so many tactics trying to stay clear of them: going back up the ladder, standing on various pipes, circle strafing, shooting the glass out on the floor and getting them to fall into the lava pits (they jump right back out), going TF2 Soldier on them and blasting at close range with an RPG-7. I took the boss' line about determinism as a not so subtle hint to start over.

Porn with an extremely amazing autistic reloading mechanic.
When you hit R, you'll drop your mag and the ammo still in it. There's a chance that you'll lose it and can't pick it back up.
But when you press X, you'll put the semi-full mag into your autoloader belt. If you have a spare magazine, you'll instantly reload. If you only have the one, you have to wait for it to be reloaded. It's still fast, but in a firefight every second matters.
If you're using the lever-action rifle or pump-action shotgun, you have to click RMB or C after each shot to manually cock it. But if you hold LMB and click RMB/C repeatedly, you'll fire the lever-action cowboy style and slam fire the shotgun. There's a double-action revolver that you can also fan.
With the anti-material rifle, you have to pull the bolt back to eject a round and then press RMB/C again to push the bolt back. You can also reload directly to the magazine.
It's all pretty exhilarating senpaidesu.

Okay zoomer. So, there are these things, called games. When a game comes out, it's considered complete, so devs stop working on it to work on something else. Sometimes a game can get patches and updates to fix issues or add content, but normally, once a game is out, it's complete.

Don't know about this particular game, but there is plenty of cases of early access where the dev just slapped a 1.0 on it and left without finishing and without fulfilling the promises.

People saying the dev run away with the money could be just live service zoomers being retarded, or could be one of these cases.

That hasn't been the case since "expansion packs" became common(it's been a few decades), especially once games started dripfeeding content that should have been in the base game into the game for years as DLC.

It is a very rare mineral of copper iirc. I don't know why it is in the game when there's no even precious stone, and the more common cuprite and chalcosomething isn't in-game.

Seven Days to Die pisses me off because there are plenty of options for "useless" furniture and decorations, but they're ALL borked in one way or another to be useless.
Like, these log walls. I cannot use them as walls because they stop "mid-block", if it makes sense, and aligning them is a bitch.
So you got a lot of options to make good looking stuff, but it always come up as weird.

There's a very important desk that's unlocked without any kind of announcement, that allows you to repair your tools. Only yours, though, when peasants break tools, these disappear, instead of just becoming "tool (broken)".

Sunless Skies is enough of an improvement over Seas that the lackluster overworld gameplay and combat stand out even more. Enemies are still just kinda there, with no real connection to the stories and quests, and very little variety in how they work. No storyline ever leads to a fight, no weird, different enemies despite the weird, different setting, and still nothing land-based at all. Itโ€™s kind of a letdown.
Are there mods for this? Or Skies mods at all?

NTA. But if you picked a start with a trading ship, start buying energy cells from a solar colector and and sell them to virtually everyone.
Pros: they are very very very cheap and plentiful and everyone will buy them, you will have plenty of places to sell them to.
Cons: they aren't the most expensive things so they don't really have great profit margins.

Delta V has some great moments
I love finding little secret places like this. Also it can have some really great atmosphere when you find a derelict ship floating around in empty space or suddenly stumble upon a cluster of frozen corpses and the spooky music kicks in.
I just wish all the NPCs weren't drunk drivers and in general it reminds me a lot of Elite's space mining. Somewhat repetitive core gameplay loop broken up by small interesting moments like this. Also tinkering with your ship is a lot of fun. I think I've almost gotten mine to the point where I'm perfectly happy with it, want to fit one out for salvaging ops next.

I would always MQB no matter what, but really all you need is a tier 4 core to start. The first milestone for progression is having a cultivator with 150,000 or more max qi and you can do that with early laws and tier 4. A better core would let you get a multiple of that which is more convenient, but all you REALLY need is the 150k max.

I really should probably make a chart or something for progression, so people can refer to it and figure out what their next major goal or milestone should be.

No it's not. What if you showed up to commoner teir with no arms and you can only kick. That's an actual option, but you wouldn't want it in the game. I don't want to have to do beggar and peasant rank for a chance for the game to tell me "You rolled the weapon that makes you lose go do it again".
It's not an option also, it's the weapon you get, or you can choose to reroll, but you said you aren't supposed to reroll until you get the meta weapon.
This is all ignoring the fact that having nothing in your off hand is something you can do if you roll the sheild, by just hutting Q to drop it.

You can get native iron in real life, it's just so incredibly rare that it was pure speculation until recently and is only found in meteorites and a single known natural deposit of significant quantity on earth.
Iron is rarely found in native form(meaning not in some kind of ore) because it is highly reactive and, outside of exceptional circumstances, will readily turn to rust. Whereas gold doesn't react at all and so is most often found in native form rather than in ores.

Most metals can be found in native form, including copper.
The formation and degradation of metals occurs over geological time frames, you wouldn't notice anything changing with how common iron is in your life time unless you're mining a lot of it.
The color of ore is usually determined by what's in it, often the metals and rocks that comprise it. Many ores often have multiple kinds of metal in them. Tetrahedrite contains a number of metals within, including copper, lead and silver.

ok, common rocks are generally made of a mixture of silicon, calcium, carbon, and trace metals. Atoms of different elements can bond into molecules and depending on what elements there are and in what order you get different minerals/ores.
because there's a bunch of elements in there and they don't line up neatly you get a big ol' blob of "rock". when you have a lot of one element, or a few elements that are (and I'm going to use this word wrong but it gets the idea across) geometrically compatible, you get a crystal. this means that the atoms will stack cleanly into a regular shape & pattern. something like water, which has 2 hydrogen and one oxygen per molecule, will cleanly stack into a hexagon when crystalized which is why snowflakes are hexagonal.

now we get into minerals, ores, and extracting metals. a mineral that has a high concentration of a specific metal is typically referred to as an ore. Quartz is a mineral made of SiO4. so four oxygen atoms and one silicon atom per molecule. Wolframite is composed of Iron, Manganese, Tungsten and Oxygen, that means it would be an iron or tungsten ore. depending on what you were processing it for. when a stone gets very hot or experiences a very high pressure the bonds between the atoms in the molecules gets weakened and they're able to slip around and break apart. different elements are heavier/lighter so in the big atom soup they'll drift into clumps and when cooling will create new bonds either into pure lumps of specific metals or into new molecules & crystals depending on how hot it got and how quickly it cools. By controlling those values and understanding the molecular makeup of the rocks you're processing you can extract the specific element you're after

Yeah, bounties are barely a thing in the game. Basically, some sectors are owned by specific factions, and if people who are enemies with these factions enter that space you can shoot them down for some money and some reputation gain. But I can't say I've ever done that as a "main activity", at best it happened as a secondary effect of defending an area or something.
I do believe however that there's a bunch of mods that give some sort of actual bounty hunting. The most probably one being the Star Wars one I think. (Never played).

I see. So essentially, the different crystals/rocks have different density of ores.
Purifying ore is really more important than blacksmithing it, but I'm happy this part is simplified to "smash rock, smelt remains". I assume that doing this IRL would result in a very impure copper that would get me a fragile blade?

>impure copper that would get me a fragile blade?
if you just smashed & melted, yeah it wouldn't be a good blade at all. but combining elements to make a stronger metal is incredibly common. that's what alloys are. Add a smidge of tin to your copper and you get bronze which is harder and more durable than copper and almost as hard as iron.
A big part of blacksmithing is further purifying the ore. heating, striking, and folding works out unwanted impurities leaving a stronger alloy and also can alter the crystal structure of the metal further changing it's strengths

metallurgy is an ancient science and it's really boundless if you keep trying things

>further purifying the ore. heating, striking, and folding works out unwanted impurities
Ha, I see. Now that you say it, I did remember watching a video about Japanese blacksmithing when I was in my Nioh period, because I wondered what "tamagahane" was, and they explained that he folds and folds and folds because their iron is very impure, so they work it even more to get a decent iron.
Then something about making two kind of iron for the blade so that it's half "get dulled easily but bend", and half "stay sharp but breaks".
Blacksmithing is complex in Vintage Story but we're barely scratching the surface.

>Purifying ore is really more important than blacksmithing it, but I'm happy this part is simplified to "smash rock, smelt remains".
That's basically it for historic metallurgy. The copper has a lower melting point than the silica rock, so when you heat it up you end up with molten copper that easily separates from the solid slag. Depending on the ore it might have other metals in it, but a bronze age metalworker wouldn't know how it worked - just that ore from a specific region had slightly different properties. And that mixing some tin ore to the copper before melting gives you bronze, which is stronger and easier to work with.

Some metals are more finicky of course, and some are very finicky, requiring modern chemistry. Look up how aluminum is made, and it'll be obvious why it doesn't exist in Vintage Story despite the ore being abundantly common.

Quite honestly, it sounds really interesting. Is it what the elven hammers are for, later in the game, when you get to steel and you have to hammer stuff? I saw some of these hammers in For Honor as well, they are MASSIVE and moved by a noria, a water wheel. And they're also map hazards and will kill any poor fucker thrown under them in one hit. Are they hammering steel to try to remove the impurities, like iron or bronze would get folded and hammered?
And bronze is such a massive improvement over copper, it's not even funny. I can't wait to get iron in Vintage Story, it's going to be hilarious.

>Look up how aluminum is made
Yeah, nah. Aluminium came up when that boat game came out, Kancolle or whatever the name is. Something abotu bauxite and what else.
Apparently aluminium is really, really complex to make, and it never ceases to amaze me, because I keep thinking of aluminium as "that thing that wraps chocolate". And yet it's apparently amazing.

Go to Hatikvah's Choice and hang around the gate leading to xenon space. Xenons (usually) constantly trickle in and get promptly destroyed by the nearby station/ARG fleets nearby. Pick up whatever loot they drop and sell everything but spacefly eggs and one each of the three items you need for SETA. Craft spacefly eggs into caviar and sell it for 1M+. When you have a couple millions in the bank, buy a medium mineral miner and set it to automine for passive income.
For a quick boost of such loot go to terran space and blow up criminal traffic until you get enough rep to start their questline, then follow through with it. At one point you'll be tasked with defending a station in Getsu Fune from a massive xenon attack. You don't actually need to fight them, they're no match for the station and the defending fleet. You can easily get a couple millions from the shitton of loot lying around. Again, buy more miners and set them to work.
Silicon mining is the most profitable, but depending on gamestart RNG the silicon-rich systems may not have the stations that actually want to buy it, so you'll need to set up repeat orders to mine in sector A and sell in sector B, which does cut a bit into your profits. If they have to jump more than one sector, don't bother with it and mine ore instead.
Also note that you WILL lose miners to the khaak sooner or later, though by the time that happens you'll usually have enough dosh to not care about its replacement cost.

i love this game
i have 300+ hours in cogmind and way more in cataclysm (both bn and dda)
what it achieves exactly is carrying over complex systems into pure physicalality and feel
when your character is carrying half their bodyweight with loot, clad in armor, it's not just a stamina and a movement cost modifier, it's a platoformer and it allows it to be direct - not just lower stats, but you will slide off slopes, keeping balance will be more difficult of uneven terrain and your mass will directly affect both your fall damage and how much your body will damage it's surroundings.
webm is an example of such an interaction. i am both fat due to poor diet, and carry about 18 units of loot. due to my weight, a single block of sand breaks under my girtch and sends me funneling downwards right onto a jumppad trap that i didn't see. unfortunately, by pure coincedence, it sends me into a second one, however, due to my weight - it cannot launch me nearly as high compared to stepping on it with light load and stomach. thanks to this (and my incredible luck), i just walk off with a few bruises which could've been fractures from hitting the ceiling
getting concsussed isn't just "You hear a loud bang!" and "You can't see anything!" in log, followed by a 1 tile fov limit, it actually directly affects your perception of a player. shaders making finding visual cues more difficult, tinnitus making hearing things from further away nigh impossible - all directly affects your ability to analyze and navigate terrain. you setp on a landmine not because you failed a perception roll, but because you specifically, didn't notice it due to your trauma
it's not torture porn because it doesn't shy away from conveying a sliver of what your character would actually feel in the moment, instead of abstracting pain into a stat window. there are very few games that do this well, and this one is the best

It looks like ass. All these systems you describe sound cool, but then every webm of this game is about a ragdoll falling down a chasm, and you can't see shit because of the filters on the screen, and at some point the person playing will inevitably have to pause to fiddle with a cumbersome drag and drop inventory.

>it's not torture porn because

>It looks like ass.
it looks acceptable for what it does. the biggest filter on the screen is from a permament injury - 3/4 fov limit after losing an eye. darkness is a gameplay element, knowing when, where and how to get good light source is a multi-faceted skill.
>cumbersome drag and drop inventory
there are alot of QoL features, and inventory managent is also one of the core identities of the game. different containers have different stats, can be carried in different slots, reduce encumberance by different amounts - it's a careful act of keeping the most important stuff like medicine, bandages and emergency food on yourself where you can always easily find it (like leg pouches or pockets), spread your load in order to make sure you won't lose everything if it breaks/you drop it, and sort it in a way that minimizes encumberance. game allow for quick container-to-container item transfer, directly dragging items into health panel, using/crafting/stacking items on the floor without need to pick them up and others. i've posed another webm of suboptimally healing myself after exploding on a landmine, and took less than a minute of UI manipulation. for something as complex as removing a dozen of afflictions and applying different kinds of drugs in dosages - that's pretty quick.
>It seems like you just described why the game is the best torture porn you've ever seen, so I don't really understand how this follows.
i define "tortue porn" as a game where you specifically make characters suffer for your enjoyment. people sandbox, mutilate the ragdoll, just mowing down NPCs in gmod with brutal addons - that's torture porn.
when character suffers here - it directly transfers to your audiovisual suffering. that's both a bold and innovative design choice, and i dig it a lot. last stand is literally second life (which is very powerful) can only be achieved if you keep protag in high spirits by treating them well. it literally encourages you to act humane.

In a normal game, healing yourself is a separate keybind. One button. That's not really a fair comparison of course, since normal games don't try to simulate applying different kinds of drugs in dosages, but then I'm not sure what would be.
If sixty seconds is "quick", what would be slow? Surgeon simulator? Space Station 13?

>i define "tortue porn" as a game where you specifically make characters suffer for your enjoyment.
That's like saying that Degrees of Lewdity isn't a porn game, because you're the one being raped instead of raping others.
>when character suffers here - it directly transfers to your audiovisual suffering. that's both a bold and innovative design choice, and i dig it a lot.
That's like saying that Degrees of Lewdity would even less of a porn game if you could actually feel your hymen tearing in real life instead of reading a text description.

>Space Station 13
eactly
game is directly inspired by it
also, any survival game with more medical depth than a puddle. take cdda for example, healing severe injuries requires in-game weeks of downtime, which can easily translate into multiple hours of effort if you account for transportation, recovery activities and other tangent, but important things.
>torture porn
can you please justify the existence of mechanics that aid you if you treat your character well (last stand) and punish you and make game more difficult in a multitude of ways if you make them depressed?
goal in DoL is porn. it's the fact of being raped. there's no other appeal, it was only made with porn in mind, and all it's mechanics are centered around porn. nearly everything you do leads to porn.
goal of scav is survival. you can descend literal kilometers deep and never get hurt. suffering is a direct result of you failing to survive. only things that would be logically horrible for your character lead to suffering.
do you still not see the difference?

The part where you apply medication is still like six keystrokes. Like, if you mean that healing after a landmine required pressing two buttons and then waiting for a minute, I'll agree that's quite streamlined and user friendly, but that's not the impression I got from your description.
I have never seen anyone call the SS13 user interface good, not even once. If that's what scav game is trying to emulate, I don't understand what you're fucking expecting.

>can you please justify the existence of mechanics that aid you if you treat your character well (last stand) and punish you and make game more difficult in a multitude of ways if you make them depressed?
DoL has that too, I think it's kind of a staple in games like these.
>goal in DoL is porn. it's the fact of being raped. there's no other appeal
>goal of scav is survival. you can descend literal kilometers deep and never get hurt.
You can survive indefinitely in DoL and remain a virgin. There's two whole transformations locked behind it, actually. You need to be (at least technically) a virgin to become an angel, and you need to be an angel to become a fallen angel.
Saying that the game has no appeal if played this game is subjective, but I don't personally think that's true. The life simulation elements, going to school, making money, delving into dungeons in search of treasure, these still add up to a functional video game without any of the sexual elements. Certainly a less deep one, like an RPG with all the combat removed, but then I don't think your scav game would be quite as deep if you cut out all the pain and violence.

>About what?
His definition of what a porn game is. Here >>530929342 he writes that
>i define "tortue porn" as a game where you specifically make characters suffer for your enjoyment. people sandbox, mutilate the ragdoll, just mowing down NPCs in gmod with brutal addons - that's torture porn.
He's focusing on player agency in perpetrating the torture, rather than the tone with which the torture is handled, and (perhaps intentionally) missing the fact that everything that happens in a video game ultimately exists for the player's enjoyment.
Degrees of Lewdity is the first counterexample that came to mind. It's clearly and unequivocally a porn game, but the player character is almost always in a passive role. You're not fucking, you're getting fucked, at least supposedly against your will. Even in consensual sex encounters, you have very little control.
But obviously, even though your character is getting traumatized by events outside her control, you the player are choosing to play this of your own free will. The game was made so you could watch a child get raped, and its world is built to facilitate the rape.

So how is the design behind Scav Game any different? The game developers deliberately made the game generate a chasm filled with traps and unstable footing, so your character can get hurt, and much effort was clearly spent on conveying the this suffering to the player. Anon has repeatedly mentioned how well the game accomplishes this, using audio and visual cues to show the pain rather than merely describing it.
I haven't played the game, so I don't know if it really fetishizes the pain as much as Anon makes it seem, but Anon's descriptions are similar to what someone would write for a porn game they enjoy. It's clearly porn for him, even if that wouldn't be the case for everyone.

>just post something else pls

Do not buy subnautica 2, the devs are being cheated out of a deal by the company who brought them and they (the owners, not the dev) are postponing the release to 2026 just to dodge on their financial promises (when they were brought, the dev got told they'd be getting a 250m bonus if they released in 2025, and recently a lot of higher ups were laid off and they're suing them). Basically a shitshow is brewing, so who know how that will affect the game.

That one has no high-stress hardpoint. Your options are basically one of the TNTRL variants or the Vulture Prospector. The Vulture Prospector has better RCS thruster placement, but it's more expensive and constantly drains your crew morale, so you need to compensate for that somehow.
If you want to get weird, there's the OCP-209. It looks very strange and I've never tried it, but it mounts two arms. And then of course there's the Model E, the main drawbacks of which are that it's outrageously expensive and costs extra to repair.

nta but the game is clearly not a torture porn (or at least not designed as one) by the simple fact it's a difficult real time roguelike
unlike most if not all porn game like DoL you can't "enjoy" the suffering because you are usually losing blood and thus on a timer, you don't feel aroused, you feel panic, even real time porn games usually stop the game to actually give you the chance to actually jack off (the game purpose)
A guro fan would have trouble jacking off to this game since the worse traps and dangers are deeper down and you need to spend some time playing properly and avoiding getting hurt (both to save med supplies and keeping morale high) and when you do get seriously hurt you are just gonna die if you jack off instead of healing and since the game is decently hard dying is frustating and thus disincentivized both emotionally (seeing innocent animal thing dying painfully) and mechanically(i just threw away a good chunk of time to get here and now i need to do it all over again)
This would be an idiotic design for a torture porn game

The game looks interesting, but I don't have any hope that this guys don't think early access is a viable way to fund your game.

I had to install 3 dif programs and used Google Gemini for guidance but I now I should be able to make decent .webms if I have to take over the OP. First time using a LLM too, made sure to tell it thank you just to make sure I wasted Google's money.

Also, for even bigger bucks you can acquire L/XL ships and sell them off for a quick cash boost.
It does require a starting investment, so you're better off doing this after you have a bunch of miners going around.
Buy yourself a Shuyaku Vanguard (sold by either ARG or ANT, I forgot which one), fill it with marines at the VIG station (they're higher level compared to other races), go find yourself a ship to capture. Construction ships are usually the best, they sell for 10M+ and generally don't have a gorillion trained marines aboard.
Normally, you'd incur relationship penalties if you attack a ship, but there's a way to avoid that. Set yourself at about 80km away from the target, turn off you turrets (if any) and spin up your travel drive. You'll want to basically graze your target as you pass under it. Just as you're passing by, immediately pause the game and start a boarding operation. Set it to max defenses and hull so you don't need to actually weaken your target and thus incur penalties. Set your pilot to run around the sector or whatever, just make sure it stays the fuck away from your boarding target. Go fuck around for half an hour or so and wait for the operation to succeed.
Buy a second Shuyaku and park it at the VIG shipyard so you can buy->teleport crew instead of having to run around half the universe. Congratulations, you're rich!
Also note that you can, like, also steal an Asgard or six and completely break the game if you feel like it, though those might require multiple boarding attempts.

I know, but in practice, these games also give you other types of guns for different roles, such as shotguns, sniper rifles, grenades and pretty much every game nowadays has alternate firing modes for every weapon, giving the guns yet more versatility and yet more options to the player. There is only so much variation to encounters and these fast firing weapons end up being almost equally viable in the same situations.

I think I would prefer to have something more gimmick in these slots. Same with games that give you mutliple shotguns.

Gun variation is down to how lazy the dev is in simulating a gun's stats and damage model. Otherwise it's just
>shoots but faster
>shoots but slower and does more damage
>shoots like a shotgun
When you play games like Arma or Insurgency you really learn that all guns are not the same.

SMGs also tend to be shit against most body armor, similarly they penetrate cover poorly.
SMGs and their ammunition will be lighter and more compact, making them more maneuverable and faster to reload.
SMGs' light ammunition tends to give them low recoil compared to rifles, this lighter ammunition is also often represented as lower damage per bullet and provides a higher total ammunition capacity.
SMGs are more often allowed to be used in one hand than rifles in less grounded games.

Not every shooter is like that, maybe about half have engagements that will happen at long ranges like that, but most of the time its close to medium range
also
>it's difficult to differentiate weapons in close quarters since it's more about who shoots first
Again, not always the case, a insta kill shotgun will win vs an rifleman who shots first in most shooter's barring milsim ones, and even in that it'd depend on the riflemans aim, an SMG would likely win vs the rifle too, but it depends

Gun variation in shooter's isn't just stats, it's often about feel or looks too, even how it sounds. Maybe you like the way one gun looks and feels even though it's stats are very similar to another, you'd do better with the gun you like more because you'd enjoy using it more.

Still remember the Remington in BLOPs 2 being OP as fuck with it being able to 1 tap halfway across a map, but I preferred using the KSG, the slug shotgun, because it felt better to use and more consistent, like a snappier sniper to be used at close and mid range. Ended up getting diamond camo for shotguns but I still preferred the KSG.

today i finished the game death's door.
the good parts.
>decent art style (the concept art looks amazing 10/10 but sadly the 3D models doesn't do justice to the 2D art)
>god tier music.
>amazing boss fights, no cheap shots, always fair.
>decent story, not ground breaking but still interesting and straight to the point.
the bad parts
>unrewarding exploration, the game doesn't have enough new objects and rewards to stay engaging.
>this point is related to the previous one, the weapons feel too similar to each other, and there isn't enough of them to keep the combat fresh, luckily the bosses compensate this flaw but still.
>while the bosses are very good, the normal enemies lack variety.

this is what comes to my mind right now, fun game, solid 8,5/10

if you know games like that please recommend (i know tunic and zelda but that's all)

Found this game in the steam sale.
Spent twenty or so cycles in the Outskirts before I figured out how gates work.
Went up and to the right following the little helper, fuck-ton of lizards and flying cunts.
Went to the right still following the little helper, fuck-ton of stupid monkey men, leeches, and flying cunts still. Bonus grabby bastards.
Went to the right following the helper again, water, water, and more water, and more flying cunts STILL. Cute little robot at the end.
Start going back since there is no more right for me to go to, little helper starts pointing me up. Go to dark place.
Not that bad actually, just some bugs and a few lizards. Little helper tries to send me to my death, fucking seaweed.
Keep exploring until I find another gate. Metal area with lizards and some flying cunts.
Open map. I've been here? This is the first area I went to. Decide I've explored enough of "right" and go back to the Outskirts.
I feel like I just came back from a campaign in a foreign land and forgot what my own home looks like.

there are just less people here actually passionate about games they play
egg has a ton of factorio autists that constantly actually play the game and keep the thread alive, while they don't shy away from talking about other related games because there's a very high chance they've also played them
since lisa general begun dying due to retardifation of the fanbase and loss of popularity, indie has always been spread too thin
if you ask me, there should be a split for every major kind of indie game where people who currently play they can speak and find others, i am certain that if this site's pop wouldn't have been so ass and /vg/ wouldn't have had reputation similar to /v/, generals for pixel depression games, racing arcades and things like that would've had a pretty good chance of survival

I remember Risk of Rain 2 going through some controversy when Gearbox took over publishing, how's it nowadays? It's been on my radar for ages upon ages now but I've always stopped myself from taking the plunge.

Think it's cause I was never a huge fan of most rougelikes, but it doesn't look like another samey 2d pixel art or isometric rougelike, maybe it's cause it's low poly and 3d. More popular then most games discussed here so maybe that lends credit to it being decent.

Went further down the shitter because Take2 tos recent changes basically mean you barely own your own games and any modification or modding of files is unauthorized, regardless of wether or not the game had a modding scene beforehand.

This is due to the acquirement of Gearbox by Take Two last year. New tos went live sonewhat recently. So just pirate, iirc original devs arent even a thing anymore.

It's fun with friends(tm)
The last DLC was absolute garbage, but they painstakingly reworked the whole thing over the course of like half year and now it's actually fun to play. I feel like the interactions between items aren't overly complex, so there are very few builds I would call "interesting" but you can still have some fun with numbers going up and some broken item combos.
I'm with you of not being a fan of "rougelikes" and I still get plenty of enjoyment out of it every now and then

Yeah, I enjoyed that game a lot. Unfortunately I always hit a wall somewhere around the 300-400 population mark where I just couldn't progress where I needed every single worker just to meet demand of whatever I needed, with nobody left to start any new production chains (at least on the patch where I played)
Also had to play on easy mode like a coward, because I could never manage to get an army up in time and the first raid pushed my shit in every single time

Thanks, I try to make my settlements look as organic as possible, even though I'm afraid that comes at the cost of some efficiency in terms of how fast people can get to their jobs
I do appreciate how the game has systems to encourage you to build realistic building shapes with supports and all that though.
>I also need steel to make any sort of progress
Yeah that was often the point where I failed either at or shortly after. In older patches like half of your production buildings required it, I believe. From what I recall now you can at least build worse versions of the buildings without it. I think in one of the devlogs the dev said that unfortunately he has very little time to actually play the game, so at some point he wants to do a huge balancing pass, no idea if that already happened.

I think DF and Rimworld are closer together than SoS. SoS is more of a city builder/management game where you don't care if some of your people die. DF/RW are more personalized right? I have little playtime in them.

I put 8 hours into the demo. The demo is just 1 patch behind and only 1 race.

the most success I had with this game was focusing only in the things that my race is good at and then trading excess for everything else.

I once made a lizard city for example, where I mostly made shitloads of fish I didn't need and fish was my main export and currency (currency that spoils quickly, lmao) to buy things from other settlements, such as medicine, furniture, iron, wood, other types of food, then I started buying slave pigs to farm and so on.

I never went much farther than a thousand population mark in this game, though, because at that point, I am just bored of my cities.

I simply love the ost of this game, but gameplay itself, its a little boring after while.

Dwarf fortress gets to population counts of around 200(and that's if you don't raise the pop cap in the txt file), keeping track of a couple hundred dwarves isn't really practical, and unless they have a really important job where high experience is essential they don't really matter as individuals.
You might know the names of your best smiths, but miners, coal makers, soldiers, they come and go often.
>>531244017
Gnomoria is just a bare isometric skeleton of dwarf fortress. It's not unenjoyable but it's nowhere close to the state it should have finished development in, it's abaondonware.

I've never played DF myself, but from the looks of it, it's a more focused game compared to SoS. Like the other anon said in SoS you want to build a city with multiple thousands of citizens and manage your supply chains instead of caring about individual dudes.
It even has a province map where you can do some Grand Strategy stuff...if the dev implemented it yet.

Which also reminds me about how, at least when I played, the citizens sometimes struggled with finding the closest job to their home/ picking the closest home to their job.
I built a farm on the outskirts of town with enough houses to house all the farmers but for some reason some of the farmers preferred to live somewhere completely different and some dude with a job inside the town lived in the farmhouse

Combo dice sounds interesting, one of the main problems I've been having with buying new dice is I don't want to lose my old faces. Might be able to pull off something with this where I have one super dice face with tons of modifiers and make the other faces unrollable so I'm guaranteed to get it every time, but I'm also probably thinking far too big there and that'd be impossible to pull off. It's a neat thought though.

The old versions that adhere to a fixed vision of what a walking simulator in space should be, instead of piling on 300000 features in some misguided attempt to be shitty minecraft while they keep making the terrain gen worse and worse.

adding stuff to perfection doesn't make it better
the main thing is they fucked up the terrain gen something fierce, and made exploration extremely boring as a result, so all they have left is shitty crafting mechanics

the old version had less mechanics that were more finely tuned, in a far more varied and interesting universe, and the flatscreen immersion hadn't been sacrificed at the altar of VR yet either

the old version lets you figure things out on your own while the new version leads you by the nose in a 5+ hour unskippable tutorial

there's plenty of articles and posts about why it's superior I don't really care to repeat all of it here, learn to google

I preordered the game. You're right it was different back then. It was shit.
I returned only years later when it was actually finished.

The only thing I miss from the early days is separate servers for PC players and console peasants. Game at least needs an option to filter console-made bases, stuff built without mods is never worth seeing.

But on the other hand my main problem that has prevented me from buying the game so far is that I'm not too interested in the million billion planets and am much more drawn to all the other shit that there is to do and to my understanding there just wasn't a lot of that in the original game

Yes. Exploration is fun, combats are fun, plenty content including several optionnal bosses that require special strategies.Writing and characters feel like a weird blend of Touhou and Madoka. Each character tells its own story. I only finished one but it clearly needs all of them for the story to come to a close, and I don't think it should take long because the NG+ let's you borrow items and characters from your previous playthroughs.

I know what that's like, for the longest time I couldn't stop myself getting off to feral smut, aka, zoophile art, but I eventually realized what a fucking degenerate I was and stopped. Few things helped me stop for good though.

Looking towards doing other healthier things that actually aling with my morals and values, also don't degrade and hate yourself too much, all that does is fuel degeneracy, just acknowledge your desires but DO FUCKING NOT think about them too much or too passionately, if you do think about something you don't want to think about, try learning to associate it with disgust instead, I've found disgust to be the complete opposite of more base and sybaratic desires. Also for Skyrim specifically, I'd think about how much of a massive fucking pain it is to mod it and ask, "is it worth going to do much effort just to debase myself?"

Good luck Anon, I know the struggle

Okay false alarm we good.
That was a weird round, I had an ability that gave me one of each currency gem and make it night which is a useful mechanic for me at the cost of cursing two of my dice faces, but then it gives me +2 gold and +2 exp per debuffed dice face I have.
Using that I was able to spend the gems on another ability that lets me take any dice face from the shop for free at the cost of both faces being temporarily petrified.
Cycled between each of them a few times and got an insane amount of exp and gold, plus the free dice faces so I made all my dice fucking incredible, at the downside that every time I roll a cursed face I lose 1hp and I've almost no way to heal.
Managed to survive with a couple of hitpoints left at the end, really it's only the extra hp from level ups that carried me across the finishing line.

Damn that's rough. Luckily it wasn't that bad for me, though I was into some fucked up shit as a teenager.
Luckily I've downgraded to a regular porn addict now and anything that isn't vanilla adjacent is gross to me on most days. And I'm sure with some time I can get off that too
>also don't degrade and hate yourself too much
So much this, I can't stress how important this is. And not just for kicking addictions but for any form of self improvement. I needed a therapist to figure it out, but it's next to impossible to make meaningful long-lasting change in a healthy way without first accepting yourself as you are.
Also you'll come to realize that many of the "flaws" you perceive in yourself were out of your control (i.e. due to past trauma or other circumstances) so there is no point in blaming yourself for them, if instead you can focus your energy on making changes moving forward

I really wanted to like this game, bought it during the summer sale for $3, was fun for the first 4 hours, but then I got to the previous level then this and it went to crap

The game is a series of parkour time trials aiming to get, ideally, a gold medal on all maps, because why settle for silver? The problem is there's so much restarting to improve your time by a half millisecond, so you end up throwing shit at the wall hoping it sticks without making any progress.

Think of a JRPG, or hell any RPG. sure, grinding to get max level to take on the superboss might be slow and a bit tedious, but you're always making progress no matter what you do, here? An hour means nothing if you don't get the medal you want and it feels like wasted time.

Game is Celaria, if you like this style of progression you might like it, movement itself feels really nice.

Let me give some examples of the kind of things I've found.

A world where the surface is uninhabitable due to firestorms, but a complex ecosystem exists just below the surface in a system of tunnels that spans the entire planet.

A dead world with craters so deep that they can't be climbed even with the jetpack, monoliths stand on plateau's in the middle of the craters.

A world that is entirely ocean except for a few scattered micro-islands, with sunken ruins so deep I couldn't swim all the way down to them with the oxygen I had.

A lush gaia world with breathable air, densely strewn with tiny little paths cutting through the valleys, where you can walk for hours.

A world with lakes and plains dotted with tall inverted cone mountains. Many of the lakes are connect by underwater caves where alien squids live.

I once got lost because I couldn't reach back up to my ship and I had to wander aimlessly across the desert, following the spaceship traffic in the sky to get to an outpost where I could finally recall my ship.

I feel like the randomly generation really does make unique stuff, at least the old version, it isn't just differently coloured plains.

Yeah, everything got flattened and homogenized, so now the only thing that differentiates planets is the "type", they added more types but the terrains are just flat and unremarkable.
And the minecraft mechanics are just noise that take away from exploring and encourage you to homestead and grind rather than wander and marvel.

it is mostly aggressive and suicidal but you can see it actually tries to hide behind cover at times, which is big improvement over the previous games
enemies are a mix of waves just coming at you and scripted placements guarding spots, those tend to be trickier
they surprise me sometimes, one enemy threw a smoke grenade to hide itself earlier, probably scripted but that was cool
level design/balance is pretty good, good usage of 3D and verticality, which is something I find lacking in other series
when the levels are more open, the wave retards can also surprise me because it's hard to cover all angles and they just keep coming from all sides

>>531488915

I'm enjoying my time with the game so far (20h played), I just wish that I could always take four relics if I wanted to instead of being limited via certain stages. Abilities are kind of like what Jokers are to Balatro, but it's far more random to get the abilities you want in this unless you start with a relic that comes with that specific one attached.

Right now I'm just trying to unlock as many of the class specific relics as I can, there's one each for getting 10, 15 or 20 stars total with each character. Searching for any nice combos in them, like I'm currently using one that gives me an ability which lets me take a free dice face set from the shop at the cost of petrifying both, and another that gives an ability which removes the debuffs from two dice as well as healing me a little. Combined it lets me grab a good early upgrade to get me started and I can do it 3x per scenario. Good shit.

I am no gamedev but I sometimes think that games that look as if they shouldn't eat much performance because they have low res textures or something can sometimes sill be demanding because of lighting or particle effects or some shit.

the entire complex materials and lighting system of unreal runs at its full cost no matter how much of it you actually use, that's why it's particularly retarded to make low poly games in it

>Little number to the lower left of the rolled die face tells me exactly how much damage I'd be doing + any special effects
