Thinking about this series in 2025 makes me sad. Sky FC was such a kino game, despite what people say about it being "slow" (SC has much worse pacing anyway) I still believe it was paced perfectly with a good plot, memorable characters, the best antagonist in the series, outstanding atmosphere, and the best twist ending in the series. The earlier games had a good grasp on how to create narrative tension and raise stakes when needed. To go from that to where the series is now, it really makes me feel like they phoned it in somewhere during CS, and they just don't have the writing talent to make the story work anymore. Every plot twist feels like an asspull, every antagonist feels like a joke, character motivations are all over the place, etc. and above all else, Falcom doesn't respect the concept of strong-minded characters sincerely battling over their ideals, despite the series being full of strong-minded idealists. Everybody just wants to get along, every battle is just a "test" of willpower/strength/whatever, and that destroys narrative tension. And as if to laugh at players for not liking this, Falcom went and made Kuro 2, a game that revels in death fakeouts and bullshit stakes while dragging the pacing out to an interminable crawl.
No this is not a reddit post, I'm just venting about one of my favorite games going to shit. We can't have nice things anymore.

That happened to me since chapter 3 of Kuro 1, thats when I started skipping entire dialogues, then scenes and never bothered doing connection events, the goal now is finish the games as fast as possible.

I'm done following this series yearly after Kai 2. After that game is out i'm not touching another Kisei game until the series is entirely finished and then i'll just play them all at once.. Maybe I'll play the Sky remakes though unless they fuck those up terribly.

Reans route was boring unless you're a CSfag who basedgasms at references to muh thors and bonds for the 999999999th time. Literally any time the route is about to get interesting they pump the breaks and tell you to play Kai 2.
Kevins route suffers from him being teamed up with the shittiest characters in the entire series who just do nothing but complain and hold him back and it being stuffed with pointless fights.
Vans route suffers from too much padding and Edith but it gets decent in Act 3 when you actually get to explore a new place. Still shouldn't have been as long as it was if they weren't going to do anything with it though.

Had more character progression in 1 game that rean had in 5.

The problem with Angelica is not her trope but where the trope is being used. Her trope is the whole senior that dresses in the guys uniform and flirts with the girls and calling them”koneko Chan” and having a harem. This trope character would be like 17 to 18 years old flirting with 15-17 year olds. The problem with how cold steel does it is that you have students like fie and Millium who are 13-15 so when Angelica flirts with them or talks about raising them to be her ideal mate it then sounds super sus than what the trope is supposed to be. It even goes beyond that when her 21 or 20 year old self hits in tita, a character people remember as little tita from sky. Angelica is a trope that’s used in a different setting then where the setting is usually is. It doesn’t help that most westerners that play trails or jrpgs don’t watch a high variety of anime or sometimes they don’t even watch anime at all which is weird to me why they pick up these games in the first place
