Everyone here knows about the emotion system, and also about the fear emotions; Afraid and Stressed Out. It's common to see Stressed Out interpreted as a tier 2 Emotion like Enraged, Depressed, and Ecstatic. But it's actually a tier 3. There's an unused middle state called Panic that's in the files. However, it doesn't seem to have any kind of functionality attached to it. Panic might have been cut early, or maybe it's here as a placeholder that wasn't intended to be used, or a template for just in case, or it's code was wiped when it was cut. Either way, a remnant of it is here in the files. Isn't that interesting?

Specifically the pier area Omori and Mari wander around being called the Forgotten Pier. I'd seen that name mentioned in a few places like the language files.
The dreamworld_extras_blackspace language file is dedicated to dialogue tied to Headspace Characters talking about Black Space. Like Kite Kid mentioning seeing a Dark Void in the sky, the Sprout Mole Teacher's lecture on the Deep Pit, or Mina's Kid talking about the Shadowy Chasm. But there's also dev text referring to an unused scenario or two, like Captain Spaceboy mentioning how he sometimes stumbles on a Black Hole when flying too far into the universe.
The other unused scenario is this:

In this Forgotten Pier area you can see shadow people walking around in this area. You can't talk to them, so this above dialogue is completely unused. I wonder if this indicates that Forgotten Pier was going to be a little bigger than it is now, or if the above co-existed with what we have now before they cut it. It was probably cut early on into the idea since only 3 lines were written despite the other Black Space names being mentioned. I imagine they wanted to make the moment more focused on Omori and Mari, and maybe more mysterious.

Hearing more about the lighthouse would have been cool. But I also think part of the lighthouse's appeal is how little we know about it. It's a lighthouse, it's connected to an area that isn't always there, it's a former Black Space entrance, someone clearly lived there, and there's a decayed portrait of Sunny's family. Like Lost Library, it was probably pretty important at one point in Headspace's past. Now it's just a forgotten relic.

When he recalls the truth of what he did, his self loathing is such that he wishes someone would kill him, to put him out of his misery and give him what he deserves for killing his sister.
But as all this is contained within himself, the only person who can do it is himself.

Still freighting, but less outwardly hostile. I'm pretty sure that the prominent twisted version of Mari we see with the distorted face and crooked neck is meant to represent a fear. Sunny's fear that Mari would hate him for what he did, and rightfully so. After seeing her at the piano, and after what she said, that fear dissipates a little. I think this is still the same nightmare that's haunted him. Just changed. It looks more like how the real Mari did, but still not entirely undistorted. Or it's just meant to be a spooky visual.
Look at her right arm. Not your right, her right. Look closely at how it goes downward, compared to Sunny's right arm. There's an artist's error. Her arm is layered over the sink. Oopsy daisy.

Because of what I said. So the player can come to their own conclusions. The game does everything in it's power to convince you Sunny and Basil's friends can forgive them, but doesn't outright say it because it would feel disingenuous to do so in the last minutes of the game and rob the player of their own thoughts on what might happen. And even than it kind of does because the post-credits sequence has room to argue it takes place after they're forgiven or not hated.
