Obviously he and Kurisu figure out it's because of that d-mail he sent after he found her murdered, with the only solution to save the retard (and the future) is to delete that d-mail, thus it's not sent, thus Kurisu is never saved.
But a future Okabe (fleshed out more in S;G0) figures out a loophole: by using the real time machine, he can 'trick' causality, because it's not Kurisu's actual death that is needed, but the appearance of being killed, and for Okabe to witness it and send the panicked dmail at the exact right time. So he stages the murder scene, steals back the time machine research, then escapes back in time, and gets to have his cake and eat it too.

The current payment model for visual novels right now is probably better for the medium as a whole, since we've been starved for translations for many which require the time and dedication that can only come from a paid infrastructure, I don't think Muramasa would've come out if JAST USA didn't let moogy and co. work on it for like 9 years. That said it's also really slow and a complete crapshot in terms of getting the visual novels people actually want released into english
I really wished the fan translation community was still alive for VNs, but it's become apparent that it's completely dead, especially in comparison with anime and manga (I do fansubs in my spare time). They take too long, you have to keep quiet or else the rights holders will come after your ass, the code is always some moonscript bullshit, and JOPs will continue to gatekeep your efforts anyway.
After Love's Sakura No Uta translation got shot down by the right's holder I knew it was over, and let's be real, what do you expect people to do anyway?
