I realize I'm supposed to be MOP HYPED, but the more I play the more I think about playing on Anni and getting ready for TBC. I guess I'll see how I feel once MoP drops.

put as much prep into it as you're willing to, it really depends how seriously you intend to take TBC and how much time you're willing to put into it. if you want to go hardcore, it would be advantageous to start with some gold and resources. at the same time, if you roll fresh with TBC I'm sure you will have no problem catching up and doing all the content if you're committed, you just might be a bit of a late starter and have to put in more effort compared to others.

to be fair a lot of the runes were fucking obnoxious to obtain, the "discovery" was a cool idea on paper but wasn't implemented well at all. and especially for things that fundamentally change how your class plays, nobody wants to jump through a bunch of hoops for that. again, having more secrets to discover is a great idea but tying it to player power was retarded, especially when they just weren't that fun to discover in the first place.
there are definitely problems with the playerbase and their expectations but SoD was also just poorly made, the devs have no idea how to develop content for vanilla anymore. the devs are also responsible for making those raids the only thing to do for weeks on end because they don't know how to make endgame content that isn't raiding. classic+ is going to be trash.

my 10 man group during WOTLK had a lot of banter, most of it was in good nature and I had a really good time there. but there was one guy who over time the banter directed at him became more and more mean spirited until it became clear that people genuinely didn't like him. the group eventually split because the larger guild imploded and pulled everybody in different directions, and the 10 man ended with basically everybody ganging up on this poor guy. he didn't really do anything wrong, he just made himself an easy target for people's frustration if that makes sense.
I ended up being the one guy he felt he could confide in cause I tried to stay out of the drama, and he basically told me he thought it was just friendly bants the whole time and was blindsided that people actually disliked him. although it was pretty obvious from the outside.

anyway, if you feel like you are that person, I hate to say it but you probably are. don't take it personally and just look for another group. as other anon said, it's hard to form connections, especially with a bunch of internet strangers who you don't really know. I've had groups with amazing social chemistry, I've had groups full of tension, and I've had groups where people barely socialize at all. you just gotta keep trying until you find somewhere you fit in.

that's not what RPG/MMORPG players enjouy enjoy, mr. dunning kruger. the proof is in the pudding, as boomers like myself like to say. they did this because it makes it easier to balance for niche end-game situations, while throwing out the baby with the bath water on a core genre mechanic.

this is why blizzard went back to not just having talent trees, but having POE-style non-linear very complex talent trees in current. and by "went back," i mean they helped pioneer this concept to begin with during games like Diablo 2 and.... drumroll.... The World of Warcraft.

this is how you know you are objectively wrong and desperately trying to cope. blizzard not only reverted but drastically improved upon the concept of having choice while leveling, as opposed to nothing like they thought would be a good idea for MoP.

2) picking talents is fun
3) having to analyze and pick b/w different options forces you to develop an understanding of game mechanics and tradeoffs

They all ran at the mobs like it was a race and there were a lot of them too, maybe playing rogue made me view the game too meticulously but it was very much a "keep up or be left behind". I wasn't the only guy who died and even he had to ask how to navigate the dungeon (so I like to cope and say this particular dungeon was on the more confusing side). I didn't get lost, I sneaked back to where I died and they had raced on ahead (but there were still mobs everywhere somehow). There's probably a way to check where your party is on the map but I didn't have the foresight to learn it beforehand. This all happened in less than 4 minutes, we all ran into, two of us died, and they kicked me before I could sneak back to them.

I'm already level 55 so I fear I might've missed the chance to learn this stuff in a lower stakes environment. When I make a new character I'll make a greater effort to attempt these early dungeons. It doens't help I'm really unfamiliar with all the multiplayer features (I didn't know people could rez each other)

actually, it might be easier once you hit level 60 funnily enough. TBC and Wrath dungeons are very simple compared to vanilla. a lot of vanilla dungeons are quite labyrinthine if you don't know your way around, in subsequent expansions they're pretty much just straight hallways so you're not going to get lost. I would suggest giving it another go after you hit 60. but, at the end of the day it's your journey, so do whatever you're comfortable with. I know it's a lot to take in but diving in is the best way to learn, don't let one bad experience ruin it for you.

So I decided to follow your guy's encouragement and try another dungeon as I just got a quest for the sunkencity. I actually went into the instance not realising it was a dungeon and lost a 1v1 against a basic enemy. Still, this made things easier when the queue finally got me a party. The other time I tried you don't even get time to SKIM the quest. This time went really well though, no incidents, just focused on backstabs and interrupts, no hero nonsense. Having trouble with the quest though as this lord itherius is not spawning where he's meant to be.

Also is this game just really unsocial? Even a simple "hi" at the start of the dungeon is complete ignored. No "gg" or anything at the end. It's like i was playing with bots

that one is a weird one because the actual dungeon is huge but that particular 'wing' only requires you to kill the boss immediately to the right to get the LFD rewards, so groups will generally just pull everything to that boss. It only takes a few minutes to complete so that is why the group was most likely impatient. I can see how you would die and how you'd get lost coming back, that particular one is an exception and I wouldnt worry much about it.
