It's actually fucking insane how SEGA completely butchered Tails' character to pander to western audiences obsessed with "child genius" cartoons. Look at the original Sonic 2 manual - dude was just a pilot who liked tinkering with machines. He wasn't some Tony Stark-level super genius who could build interdimensional portals and shit.
But then Dexter's Lab and Jimmy Neutron blew up in the west and suddenly every kids' show needed their token boy genius character. So what does SEGA do? They turn Tails from a scrappy little mechanic into this insufferable know-it-all who can apparently build anything and solve every problem with SCIENCE™.
The worst part is how it completely killed his dynamic with Sonic. Originally he was this eager kid who looked up to Sonic and wanted to prove himself. Now he's the "smart one" of the group which means Sonic looks like a fucking idiot by comparison. Remember when Sonic was supposed to be the cool older brother figure? Now he needs his 8-year-old sidekick to explain basic physics to him.
Japanese Tails: "I love flying and want to be like Sonic!"
Western Tails: "Actually Sonic, the quantum mechanics of your speed suggests that you should be creating temporal paradoxes. Allow me to build a device that negates this using my superior intellect."
They ruined him to chase cartoon trends that were already getting stale by the mid-2000s. At least Dexter was actually entertaining. Tails is just a walking exposition dump who happens to have two tails.

The Honey in my headcanon/AU is strong because she is walking around with 200kg of make-up on her face. Why? Cause she's actually 70 years old and basically spent her entire life building up her multi-billion-dollar brand, only to decide she wants to have fun teenage adventures with the main cast. She's the type that thinks everything can be solved with money, and generally represents the whole idea of focusing on materialism in your youth. Usually fighting Knuckles since he's the least materialistic guy and also has the whole "fighter" aura as well. When he beats her up, her face cracks and a mountain of make-up pours out, and her army of salarymen comes to her aid. Maybe something about her gaining "powers" depending on the clothes she's wearing, too.

I keep seeing this sentiment on sthg that Archie or Satam are responsible for the 2 worlds misconception when that's impossible for multiple reasons.
Satam aired between 1993-1997 and 2009-2018. It was not culturally relevant during the advent of the internet.
Neither was Archie. In fact at no point in time did Archie have heavy influence on the overall impression on Sonic.
Furthermore, Archie did not describe "Mobians" as "the anthropomorphic Sonic characters" until issue 123, which came out AFTER the first episode of Sonic X was already dubbed. The 125th even addresses this directly with a statement from Yuji Naka.
Archie and Satam were also not set in a world without humans. Satam had two other humans in it, Snively and the wizard, Humans as a species are mentioned in one of the most seen episodes. There is no reason for satam to cause people to believe in 2 worlds.
The lore for Satam is that "Mobius" is just earth shortly after humans left to live on a space colony.
Archie's lore is that "Mobius" is earth after thousands of years of evolution following a gene bomb. Both canons are set on a future version of earth.
Sonic X introduced 2 worlds. Sonic X introduced "Sonic Characters" being a specific single species that humans react to with bewilderment. Sonic X is more relevant than Satam has ever been and always has been.
The only major cultural influence Satam has is the belief that Sonic talks like a stereotypical 90s cool kid.

Maekawa is just as much of a hack as Flynn and /sthg/ needs to stop dickriding him just because he's Japanese.
Both of these faggots fundamentally hate the basic Sonic vs Eggman dynamic that made the series popular in the first place. Maekawa literally wanted to redeem Eggman after SA2 and turn him into a good guy, and the only time he came close to writing a proper Sonic vs Eggman story it was actually Metal Sonic in disguise (Heroes).
Flynn does the exact same shit. He admitted on Bumblekast that he actively avoids writing Sonic fighting Eggman because muh complex storytelling, and he constantly deflects to half-baked secondary villains. That or he makes Eggman a reluctant ally. Sometimes both.
They both create OC donut steels that completely step on existing characters' toes. Shadow was literally designed to replace both Knuckles as the rival AND Metal Sonic as the dark reflection of Sonic. He also stole Tails' role as Sonic's friendly rival who could meet and surpass his potential by being important with Chaos Control, something Maekawa bullshited and only allowed his own OC and Sonic to use.
Tangle does the same shit. She's supposed to be the "tough girl" but she steps all over Amy, Rouge, Cream, and Blaze's roles. The only reason people don't complain more about Tangle is because Flynn tied her to Whisper's sob story lesbian subplot.
Most importantly, both of them want to completely change what Sonic IS.
Flynn wants to turn mainline Sonic into his shitty SatAM fanfiction with muh Freedom Fighters and war stories. Maekawa wants to turn Sonic into some isekai anime bullshit. Neither of them actually wants to write SONIC stories. They want to write their own original nonsense.
Maekawa wants to make Sonic like a fucking Michael Bay movie, he was inspired by Armageddon to write SA2's nonsensical plot.

Before recently, it was basically only a thing in split second scenes where he's supposed to be sad or pissed off (because they didn't want to animate the brows instead). It really dulls Shadow's natural >:( face, makes him seem lazy and sleepy, when he should be alert and on edge. I guess it wouldn't matter to a non-autist or someone who isn't heavily invested, but I think expressions have more of an impact on how people see the character than fans might think.
I also dislike how they've made Shadow become violent over jokes. He's supposed to be violent only if someone is in his way - even when he was a villain, it was Sonic starting the fight(s), not him.
