Not high school kids in Japan, but high school kids on a space ship. Party members can switch Persona's from within their Arcana. Cosmic horror, far out alien Shadow boss designs, maybe the classic SMT demon designs to tie it all together....Imagine summoning Metatron and Helel and Alice to fight aliens. There's all kinds of creativity you can do with science fiction settings when it comes to the technology and how far you can go to implement your different weird ideas too
Basically, I want Metaphor 2 as a space RPG instead of fantasy RPG and you can summon SMT demons for special moves. That's what I'm sort of imagining. I really do want a new "Mass Effect" though, a sci fi RPG that scratches the itch. Alien world building that is still mostly grounded around humanities struggles, and still hopeful in tone. With hot anime girls.

Its likely that a ps2 game from 2007 published in Japan is alluding to TV sets made in the 60s and 70s, especially given the rural, backward facing, low-tech, setting of P4 is trying to use over the air broadcast media (yes that includes sms from cell phones) as a setting.
I was born in the 90s in Canada, and I immediately associated the party member icons with the knobs of old TV sets. Japan probably more so.

Forgot to mention this last time it happened, but Golden gave you the chance to run around after Iza-whozit gave you the bad touch, and here again after deciding to go straight home, Golden gives you the chance to just not. Which, obviously, gives you the chance to run around and see unique dialogue like Royal did with Ryuji following you to the airsoft shop rather than just taking you there.
