They were beyond broken.
Mage was super OP on release.
DH terrorized multiple expansions due to discount.
Warlock was beyond disgusting especially in Wild and was good in Standard for awhile.
Pirate Warrior was a legit menace and tier S aggro deck.
Hunter one was also broken for awhile.
Druid had a meme deck which cycled the reward for an OTK but it was decent at best
Priest was pure ass because it constantly lost to faster combo decks and there were a bunch of combo decks in the meta.
Pally was ass.
Rogue one saw some play where they constantly cycled for the stealth card and kept a huge stealthed minion to kill you the next turn.
Basically almost all quest were good so Blizzard wanted to avoid a stormwind 2.0

It's very hard to find out which cards Blizzard favours, after all look at how balanced identities are:
DK: Deathrattles, health gain, some lifesteal, some weapons
DH: Aggro, topdecking, weapons, cheap cards
Hunter: Aggro, charge, beasts, face damage
Mage: Spot and AoE removal, spells, generation
Priest: Value generation, conditional removal, healing
Rogue: Card draw, tempo, combos
Shaman: Elementals, kindred, battlecries, some health gain
Warlock: Self-damage, card draw, sacrificing/discarding
Warrior: Health gain, damaged minions, weapons, handbuff

Druid: Healing, armor, value generation, mana hijinks, card draw, generating and buffing bodies, combos, deathrattles, cheap cards, beasts, spells, cycle, tokens
Paladin: Healting, value generation, card draw, buffing and generating bodies, combos, handbuff, deathrattles, weapons, murlocs, spells, reviving, board clears, modifying stats, divine shields, tokens, big minions, taunts, mana hijinks, removal

As you can see they all have a similar set of strengths.

I have no real opinions on the buffs, but I already dislike his nerf ideas from the first sentence if he wants to make Bucaneer 3 health because 4 is hard to deal with. That's the entire fucking point, it's a way to punish decks that aren't contesting you on board by making your minions sticky against a single removal spell by playing it on curve and then following up with deathrattle minions to make up for the tempo loss that a 1/4 body brings.

I understand one class has to be the best in arena anyway but genuinely the difference between the average druid deck and the average other class deck in arena is roughly the difference between a standard and a wild deck. Literally pointless to even bother playing against Druids.

obviously and by large margin the best. bunch of broken legendaries and even an average deck without them can just shit their hand on the board and buff it to win

2. dh, dk, warlock
the fighters: they are pretty decent. can keep up with druids with a nice draft/draw, got some cheesy legendaries and their overall card quality isnt too bad, but still significantly worse than druids

3. mage, priest, warrior
the gamblers: if you highroll into the perfect draft these classes are pretty good, otherwise you are going to have a bad time

4. paladin, shaman, rogue
the shitters: youre gonna have a shit deck most of the time. not that these classes cant win, but the stars really need to align for you to go deep

I think the only salvageable quests are going to be DK and Warrior, simply because they're the only quests that aren't build-around. Surviving and spending corpses is something both DK and Warrior want to do and getting a high quality minion on top of that might be worth the worse mulligan.
