Kivotos is paradise, for 99.999% of students death is unheard of, its not something that really happens. Its so exceedingly rare that its almost impossible. There's only one student we know of who knows someone that's died. In terms of martial prowess and raw talent, if both students have cat ears for example, it seems that having a tail is a huge divide. For example, Serika is competent, but otherwise heavily relies on team work, but an archon like Akira is basically a force of nature. Same with FOX vs Wakamo. Izuna has outwordly reflexes and unpolished talent, and so. Likewise, Koharu, who has chihuahua tier sparrow wings cannot compete with Mashiro, who also gets mogged in turn by Hasumi. It's a curious detail, not definitive in terms of outcome, but in term of specs alone is quite excellent, and given the hierarchy everywhere in Kivotos, that seems to be the rule. Humans seem to exceed in intelligence, so no wonder most people go around with 4 ears, like a mark of intelligence
