Despite what people will tell you about SV1 being super f2p friendly compared to WB, absolutely nobody was playing properly built meta decks f2p until a couple weeks after release in SV1.
PtP Forest needed Ancient Elf, Roach, PtP, Altered Fate, Homecoming etc and Mid Sword needed Aurelia, Otohime, Alwida, Tsubaki etc. Nobody could afford that.
The f2p nature of SV1 was in how many resources you could accumulate long term. I stopped playing SV1 after the 2nd anime expansion, came back a year later and I could still craft all the new decks without opening any packs because of how much shit I had saved up.

The staff was much worse at designing cards back in the day too which led to there being a lot of old cards that maintained eternal relevance because they weren't future proofed against support pushing them over the top, but also meant that there were a lot of cards that were unplayable in context of an actual meta game where people were reacting to each other. One of the huge missteps early Shadowverse made was that it went hard on timer based wincons which rendered large swathes of the card list unplayable since they were designed for a game where you would grind on board. WB by comparison went extremely hard on avoiding that issue.
I have been trying out face dragon and I have doubts about otohime card. I have two versions of face dragon, one with otohime, one without. The one without has way more wins. It's like dropping otohime on turn 1 tells your opponent "He runs aggro, I better prepare heals and wards" and when they think I'm running lamp dragon they surprised by sudden aggro. Should I just not drop otohime on turn 1?

After watching those Sword vs Rune and Forest vs Portal sets recently, I fully believe that there's a U curve on how competent you believe the decks are.
Shitter players get rolled over their sheer card quality and think they're OP. Then you end up on that masters sapphire/masters low diamond line and think the decks are shit because you're able to farm the matchh ups. And then the people who're really high up know how bullshit the decks truly are because it turns out that they do require some skill for piloting and the majority of people on them are braindead monkeys who were carried by the deck so they're just playing worse than the Haven and Abyss masters who had to grind to get there. But the motherfuckers who actually know how to use them are absolutely buttfucking match ups that people think are disfavoured.
Actually I think there are more hard removals across all classes in this first meta than in the last sv1 meta. Big dragon was actually a playable deck in HoS.

Dragon needs like 10 new discard cards in the expansion. It makes no sense that adding discard effects are so hard for them to slap onto shit.
