The follow up for this storyline is in Last Kingdom which you can do right after Chapter 26 despite what it says since it doesn't really have any bearing on the current story.

Not irrelevant but often you are not as pressed to clear them in order.
I wrote that in reply to someone but there's much that's left out. Off the top of my head I can say you will want to clear SEA YOU AGAIN before a certain chapter in the recent 30s, for one.
You should also do Miracle Snow before Neverland (and of course the story chapters where you meet all the cast involved.)
There's a lot to go through and it only gets more complex with time. Thankfully they announced they're making an official timeline in the future.

I mean neither really. The gameplay shines the most in boss fights, either in campaign or better in SR/UR. I don't think you've even really experienced Nikke gameplay until you've gotten stuck on some campaign boss and had to sweat through it for over an hour to finally beat it.
The gameplay has an arcade-like feeling to it of repeating the same stage over and over again to optimize your score, which I enjoy but I get it's not for everyone.

Behemoth is a fair fight that you have to learn to beat
Burst timing is key and you can improve your damage on her a ton without ever relying on weird stuff like invulnerability frames, pausing techs, etc.
Mother Whale and Mirror Container are cancerous because they need to you run specific units otherwise they're impossible at a deficit. Hell, you even see new players with blue numbers unable to clear that damn whale

I think the core problem is still that the game is designed around gacha rolls, and thus strategy is always secondary to having good pulls. There is narrow ranges you can get buy with other stuff, but they tend to be relatively narrow niches, and so you're still mostly defined by having to get the right rolls. It's a flaw with the genre itself.
