Undertale came out in my freshman year in college where I was struggling a lot with feelings of inadequacy and fear. The game inspired a childlike sense of wonder and emotion that really helped keep out, and inspired me to do a bunch of shit with art and music (most of which sucked ass).

Now I’m like a real adult and I feel really kind of cynical about everything. I’ve lowkey given up on my dreams and settled into a pretty comfortable but boring life.

Each deltarune chapter makes me feel that sense of wonder and imagination again, but I’m starting to get worried the game will have some kind of really dark, cynical ending, and I think that will really, really upset me.

I can't imagine Deltarune will only have a cynical ending. It'd be pretty out of character for Tobias 'Toberto' Fox to do something like that, especially with how Undertale's prototyping of his characters went. I really don't think it fits the tone of the story thus far either, except maybe Snowgrave.

I think the original intention was to make a game with a strict prophecy which you can't influence, with snowgrave being a way to break from the prophecy without giving you what you want.

Ralsei lionizes Asgore, thinking that he's finally found a true monarch to have as a role model, is consistently disappointed throughout the chapter, and is forced to kill him anyways hours after meeting him.

He also gets a crisis of faith in Kris, the prophecy, and the party as a whole because of how in to beating up their dad they are and Susie's understandably shocked reaction to all of the above.

That trope doesn't work here when Kris is the one interacting with her first and doing all the interacting with (us), what you're referring to is the standard female love interest archetype, if there's more than one it winds up being a "two potential lovers fight over the prize" like twilight. It only works this way if Susie is the one being fought over, and that still leaves Noelle out since she's being a cunt to and about Kris, somebody Susie cares about and who is the first person to actually go the extra mile for.
As it stands, it'd be bad writing to just send her off with Noelle and say "well that's how the tropes are" because they're not. And if you want to lie and work the IRL angle, it also doesn't work because you need to be the one to make the moves and neither of them do, fucking Berdly makes more of a move.

For this to be a sign of sexual assault, it should logically have been visible as far back as Kris projecting his abuser onto Noelle (back when they were little kids). However, Noelle states that Kris has NEVER been known as a good flirter. Given that this piece of information is in proximity to Noelle mentioning how Kris' voice recently sounds like it's coming through a speaker/microphone, it is far more likely pointing to the fact that (You) and your actions through Kris are noticeably different from Kris' normal.

One can speculate that one party proposed to the other with a ring and eternal "promise" which was broken after the phone call.
But wait, this is a "wedding ring" not an "engagement ring", those are 2 different things. An engagement ring is given when you are proposing to your partner, it's a "promise" of marriage. A wedding ring is the permanent ring given during the wedding which symbolizes you and your partner being together "till death do us part"
Deltarune has used marriage as allegory before, like the Snowgrave route using the symbolism of arranged marriage to depict a discomforting coercive relationship. One can think of the freeze ring as a simple engagement ring and the thorn ring as an "eternity binding" wedding ring trapping Noelle and Kris together.
Now hang on, this distinction IS important in regards to Spamtenna and I am NOT going crazy!
Spamton and Tenna are business partners and they make deals with each other via contracts. Did they literally get married? Who knows. But read between the lines here. This wedding is also associated with the worst moment of Spamton's life. Essentially something like this probably happened:
All that "sweet talking" Tenna did to convince Spamton to share his secret, it was probably phrased like a "promise" that they would have joint ownership of their properties, Spamton's success would become Tenna's success and vice versa. That's what the contract was supposed to be, like a "wedding contract".
But the moment the deal was signed, Spamton's benefactor fucked off, and Tenna's immediate reaction is to reach for the phone in an attempt to get what Spamton no longer has. Presumably in this moment Tenna terminated the contract, "divorcing" their partnership.

The writing is on the wall (literally in the Dark Sanctuaries) and the whole tone of the game is rather apocalyptic. Half-baked shit theory: The reason Kris and the Knight are working together despite what the prophecy says about the roaring is because they're trying to subvert it in some way. I don't think Kris knew what the roaring was or what the prophecy said beforehand, being told what to do by the Knight. He had to figure that out as he traveled with Susie and Ralsei.
I also think that in some fucked up way, the weird route is you, as the soul, correcting this subversion to have the prophecy play out as it was intended. Maybe it's because the player is making the experiment go as Gaster wants, or simply for their own goal.

I think the interactions being backseated via lore hints and it focusing on Tenna's trauma gained from that failed transaction was a great way to reinforce Tenna's struggle with abandonment whilst also strengthening Spamton as a character. I do agree with you that Toby should've done more with Spamon coming out of your inventory to confront Tenna only for it to be a shitpost though. However for what its worth Toby did a good job with tying up loose ends regarding their relationship and had me thinking about it for a long time. I'm not a writer to toby's caliber but the assumption I get with prophecies is the usual concept where they are both entirely accurate but also entirely misinterpreted or easy to be 'translated' differently: The logo makes it more clear Jockington is growing an actual beard but the way prophecies are in writing he could just as easily develop a faux-girlfriend to hide that he's gay ("growing" a "beard"). I mean holy shit look at "Love finds the girl". There's a WHOLE lot of ways to achieve that prophecy but people only think in terms of carnal shipping love (or the heart jumping to her).

The closest to an "Odio reveal" scene Deltarune could have is if Kris started talking about the true extent of their actions.

I guess the Prophecy does imply that things will turn out alright in the very end, but like you said, there's room for a lot of interpretation within prophecies. It doesn't say how many lightners and darkners are going to have to die for the worlds to be saved. Hell, for all we know, it will take the actual destruction and remaking of the worlds to "save" them. Given the strong parallels Deltarune has shown with the Book of Revelation, I think this is the most likely outcome. Susie seems like someone who would be able to accept the idea of the heroes sacrificing themselves to save the world, so the final Prophecy must have been significantly worse than an ordinary heroic sacrifice to instill such despair in her.

I think the "best" case scenario is that the final Prophecy involves Susie having to kill Kris and take the SOUL, which leads to a Gurren Lagann-type ending where an empowered Susiezilla beats down the villain while monologuing about how no amount of suffering will shatter her hope for the future and Kris still lives on in her heart. But I'll follow your suggestion and not set my hopes anywhere near that high u faget
