I do think the story of the series needs a reboot or remake of some kind.
Not because it's too complicated as some would say but because the characters from the first 6 games are sorely underdeveloped and underused.
For instance

>Golden Freddy has no actual role, no real story relevance, they're like Gaster if he somehow had even less relevance to the story
>The MCI get their happy ending in FFPS and then oh no it never actually mattered, get Molten Freddy'd (and don't ask how this even happened)
>The DCI basically do not even exist because their story relevance is so small you can forget they even happened
>The Bite of 87, one of the biggest parts of the story from the first game, is little more than a footnote now that there's a second, more relevant Bite
>We still don't know what the Shadows even are
>We aren't even sure what the CC even does, even 10 years after 4 released
>Henry has no buildup to him showing up in FFPS, he just comes in, kills everyone, then exits the story
>It is almost impossible to name any actual character traits for Michael that aren't "regrets bullying his brother" and "likes soap operas"
>Baby goes from wanting to be free and wanting to kill her dad to wanting to kill people for him and make him proud
The only two characters from the old era with actual definable personalities are Phone Guy and William. That's it. The fucking Murrays have more characterization than most of the cast in the series. Most personalities people attribute to characters like Cassidy, Michael, Charlie, or Jeremy relies purely on speculation and headcanon.

Im trying to remember if they said the boy was anyone important or anything about what happens to him, because people are split on whether Freddy Carter is Michael or Sammy Emily. As an aside, I like to headcanon him blaming Michael for Elizabeth's death. "Your sister only died because no one was watching her and that's only because I had no I could trust, because you proved you couldn't be trusted!" Not just out of anger/grief but also his narcissistic need to maintain control and never be at fault, plus lumping even more guilt onto Mike would make controlling the kid all the easier.
