>>531580476As broken as spiderfag's ass.
Mad how one agri-world can supply 40 other planets.
>>531581218Man I can't even be arsed to colonize 41 planets
Honestly like 10 is my maximum, I hate playing wide
>>531581874I wish empire size penalties weren't so punishing so I could set planets to automate. You can't rely on the AI to build up a planet properly, so it just winds up as a drain on the empire. You have to manually build everything, and that becomes tedious.
It's a nice idea to have a large empire, but it seems the devs have chosen to prioritise tall ones. I suppose it does encourage you to engage in diplomacy with neighbours rather than purging them.
>>531581874>1 planet can feed an entire empire>But you can't harvest a single planet to cover the mineral needs of the entire empireThis is why Stellaris sucks.
>>531584307Yeah, it's kinda disappoint when playing terravores. You eat a whole fucking planets and all you get is some minerals, alloys and pops.
You unironically get more alloys from purging a decently sized robot population.
At least I can just press the eat planet button and move on without having to deal with all the shitty planets I conquer from the AI.
It's also were I learned that planets in the middle of colonization are completly invincible and my ravenous stone murder drones will wait patiently for the colonists to set up shop properly before invading and eating them all.
>>531584307The arc furnace harvests the mineral resources of an entire solar system, and it's still nowhere near enough.
>>531586929>>531584307>in reality our own asteroid belt could supply entire Earth for several centuries even at 10x the growth rate we have now>in Stellaris mega project dedicated to harvesting entire solar system worth of celestial bodies can barely provide enough minerals for some fleet and few buildingsSame goes with dyson spheres - Stellaris fucking SUCKS.
>>531587210The Dyson Sphere should just change your energy income to โ. Same with the black hole miner thing for minerals.

>whenever temperature dips, it's my best and brightest who die out while the lumpenproles burn dung in their hovels with no fucks to give
There's probably a joke about gommunism in here somewhere. Anyway, is there a way to batch-select living preferences for a group of buildings? I can't be assed to click every barrack to prohibit the educated from living there, but moving them manually is getting tedious. Also, is there no way to copy worker assignments between houses same way one would copy assignments between COs or DOs? And why in the fuck are my unemployed citizens displayed as "inactive", is it because they live in self-heating houses that are normally only found on game start?

Hey guys, irregular here.
I assume this has come up before, but is there any space game that'll give me big fleets, interesting characters and philosophy classes 101? Basically anything for a pic related feel.
>>531885892In Homeworld you can get somewhat close to that sorta fleet battles, provided you salvage enemy ships like a mofo on every mission.
There's some LOGH vidya in existence, but none of it is translated to English.
Sins of a solar empire lets you play with pretty big fleets and there's a logh mod for Sins of a solar empire: Rebellion.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/legend-of-the-galactic-heroes
In stellaris you can get some pretty big fleets and it also has LOGH mods for it, just ship mods and portrait mods though, no full on conversions.
Distant worlds 2 lets you build some pretty big fleets also and has more automation than Stellaris, but it has significantly less mods, none of them are ship mods.
Philosophy stuff I haven't ran into in any 4X game as far as I can remember, usually the games just follow the idea of "achieve victory through conquest, research, economy, alliances or a mix of all four".
For philosophy lectures, I'd go watch Kojima games.
>>531885892Just like the other anon said. Maybe add Starsector to that list too. I didn't know LOGH actually had a english subbed dvd release.
>>531880505>Wtf was I missing from never having the expansion?Spending an hour advancing through the ages with ridiculous advancement costs only for the AI to start landing deathbots on your planet while you're only at WW2 tech
Space is literally just NotSea with spacecraft being NotShips that can only be traversed at the last age.
So if you play essentially space islands, no one is interacting with each other until the endgame.
>>531887226That picture is ironic given how you have to engage in meta faggotry with harvesting to NOT make the game unwinable in Homeworld..

I'm getting back into age of empires 2 after about 5 years.
A lot of noticeably new stuff, some of it negative.
For example, this yellow shit running across the ground.
It surrounds every town center that I run into, even the first one I build
How the FUCK do I remove this horrible effect? It keeps spoiling the location of enemy TCs without me putting in the full effort to find them, and I really don't like that.
I could not find the option to switch it off anywhere in the options or game creator.
>>531888932I just played a random map then half of the Roman campaign from the expansion and holy shit it's so obvious which units were added in the expansion by their voice and icons along. It's simultaneously lazy and over-engineered by adding in more stuff into the game which already has too much stuff in it. What's the difference between archers and crossbows? Why do these units have special effects that aren't mentioned anywhere? Why did the expansion add a second kind of wall and tower that exists alongside the stone ones?
>>531901796Is that due to the treaty being in effect?
>>531885892The nintendo ds game Infinite Space is the closest game I can think of that has that LOGH feel but it isn't exactly a 4x or rts game. I played before I even knew of LOGH.

Recently I got to enforce dorf supremacy playing Age of Wonders 4, Giant Kings update really opened the way to letting you go full underground goon cave builds
Picking either Industrial for sturdy shield walls or Reavers for gun lines fit well with dorfs
But AoW4 got bit by the Paradox DLC sickness, so that's not for everyone
>>531916572Thank you anon, I always appreciate you bringing this stuff to me.

>>532011871The middle earth isn't Earth. Dwarfs are already on the decline due to magic leaving the world, war only accelerates their extinction.
>>532010360>I don't like Battle for Middle Earth 2 because the supplementary materials make it clear that any dwarf death is a big loss for the entire race.>Total Warhammer would be a perfect fit. If I didn't suck ass at Total War.That's understandable, dwarves play pretty different in TW though and are forgiving in several factors being high armor, high leadership, good range boys, high money making potential, a second set of buildings they can construct underground, and don't need to worry about magic shit
There's also Chaos dwarves that really accentuate on that 'dying race' factor by making your dorfs even more elite and expensive, and compensate by using enslaved green skins as your cheap disposable meatshields. Still very dorf, but evil, turn the map into industrial hellhole Mordor
>I'll take a look at Age of Wonder 4, I think I have Age of Wonder 4 somewhere.AoW4 is good for short brain 'make your own faction' stuff if you want to style and steer a fantasy race however you like.
There's always the early Age of Wonders games too. I finished AoW1 months ago, and the dwarves there didn't disappoint. Helping them in the Keeper campaign gives you long, grueling ass missions underground, but helping their civilization bounce back from calamity is worth it. Big enough dwarf cities can give you giant recruitment, who are multipurpose melee sluggers, artillery, and siege units
>I don't remember Warcraft 3 having dwarfs, though?Roughly a third of the Alliance's units are dwarves. Where humans threw down in melee and elves did most of the magic, dwarves brought all the gunpowder units. Riflemen, steam tanks, gyrocopter, mortar teams, gryphon riders, and the Mountain King hero.
>>531897342I mean it fits the bill perfectly provided the first anon has some degree of terminal autism. Maybe besides the philosophy, there's not many moral choices to be made (subjugation and enslavement is always the best answer, it's just a question of whether you enslave your own race as well to boost productivity while fucking up your long-term population) but I sure like my big fleets and my lads' service records.

You would think Stellaris would have something like planetary defence cannons so you couldn't just sit in orbit and level a planet. It's so easy to completely ignore the land army system.
>>532016197>There's also that really accentuate on that 'dying race' factor by making your dorfs even more elite and expensiveExcuse me umgi, there are also WHAT? I think you messed up with your sentence here and referred to something that doesn't exist.

I just got Civ 6 Platinum free from Epic. I loved Civ 5
What's the opinion on Civ 5 vs. 6?
>>532077456I like 6 more, but if you loved civ5 civ6 will not be a better 5, its a different direction. Its certainly got more content and more replayability (before mods) but again, if you want more 5 stuff you aint going to find it in 6. for better or worse its a much less traditional civ game.
>>532094536Just initial impressions of Civ 6 after a few hours in. Btw, I have all expansions including Gathering Storm. Standard map size, everything on default, Prince difficulty.
I kind of like it. I like how the initial units seem more balanced than Civ 5's. I feel like the game pushes you to have less units and cities. Resources also feels like more manageable with wonders not taking too long but instead focuses on actions per turn rather than going through turns.
I am having a difficult time managing all the subsystems though. Not sure about having a tech and civics tree. There's governors now, not a big fan of that menu based system. I don't like how it asks me to update my policies every few turns. I feel like the tasks you need to do to advance the tech trees need a to be planned in advance because I missed a lot and I fell behind. I'm kind of surprised I got a world congress as soon as the classical era.
Overall, it does feel more about micromanaging turns rather than going through turns compared to Civ 5. A lot more action per turn. On the other hand, I'm not sure I like all the menus and subsystems.

This doesn't seem like the best grid to make a town but I really don't know what else to do. Specially given that the structures have a fall off range and to upgrade they NEED to have the satisfaction meter full.
Also how the fuck do you set up efficient trading routes? The game doesn't give you how long it takes for a round trip, and how fast production is made(I suppose it is 1 equals 1 minute?).
I have my peppers ship trucking around 5 units of peppers, and it seems to mostly bring 2-3 units of peppers per trip.
>>532376510>This doesn't seem like the best grid to make a town but I really don't know what else to doIf you just want the best layout I'm sure there's a blueprint if you search for it in google. As for figuring it out yourself ye it's going to be a block like that that's mostly efficient even if not aesthetic.
>Also how the fuck do you set up efficient trading routes?Just set up a ship and if it doesn't keep up then add another and if it looks like it's more than enough give the same ship more stops.
>>532376984>As for figuring it out yourself ye it's going to be a block like that that's mostly efficient even if not aesthetic.I mean. If you have circle-shaped area of effect buildings, wouldn't the ideal shape so that the most houses are under the effect, without repeating effect buildings, be a square/rectangle?
Looking for blueprints seems like plain cheating. I want just some pointers to help me come up with my own blueprints. Like when is it worth it to repeat effect buildings on the outskirts of rectangle of houses, to provide full services?
>Just set up a ship and if it doesn't keep up then add another and if it looks like it's more than enough give the same ship more stops. And when do you increase production, or rather ascertain that the bottleneck isn't shipping but production?
>>532377928>Like when is it worth it to repeat effect buildings on the outskirts of rectangle of houses, to provide full services? The game is pretty forgiving about resources like this, strictly speaking you would look into the the extra income of the new buildings vs the consumption of resources and the new building to provide the upgrade but that's mostly worth it unless you are upgrading very few buildings with an expensive building. You could just remove the upgraded buildings too or add more houses and then a new building. Just experiment.
Also you should aim to fully surround the most expensive buildings with houses, for instance in your picture if you expanded the block towards the south more of the 3rd tier buildings would inevitably appear, you know you are being inefficient if your high tier buildings end up against wilderness like that.
>And when do you increase production, or rather ascertain that the bottleneck isn't shipping but production? When both islands are out of the material. If only the supplying is out but the consumer isn't then there's potentially extra capacity on the shipping line and if the consumer is empty but the supplier isn't then there's not enough shipping capacity. Out of these 3 states you want to aim for the 2nd.

This city by the AI has never been growing outside of 2 pop, has 2 wheat tiles without any farms. What the fuck are they doing over there? I kinda of want to raid them, but my military is shit and everybody is behind technology wise to one civ.
>>532446116It's a 4x ai, all it's doing is cheating and making random choices
What are the top tier Stellaris mods to start off with?
>>532446930I figured, still odd to see.
>>532447958depends on what you want
>>532448164Kinda want two different things I think.
Stuff that enhances and expands upon the existing mechanics, adding more flavor and options and extremes to what's already there.
and
Stuff that's basically akin to total conversion, using the foundation of Stellaris to do it's own thing with it's own lore and events.
>>532448918>enhances and expands upon the existing mechanicscheck out the ethics and civics mods, I like bug branch
>total conversionthere's a big star trek mod, I think there's a star wars one too
i've thought about making my own civ like 4x game but the main idea of it is so autistic that it would be painful to code
>>532412153>he wants the old habitat spammake like a tree and fucking kill yourself buddy
>>532446930Play the Advanced Civ mod from Civ 4, it will annihilate you without cheating. It's the only game I've seen where the AI can plan naval invasions in a threatening manner.
>>532450782>the old habitat spamNewFAGGOT here, what did (You) mean by this?
I forgot what time it was again with the "one more turn"
>>532357373>>532358406This is AoW4, if I am not wrong, so it's not Swedish and not made by pdox, it's Dutch.
>>532454192I'll have to check that out, is it smart but not an omnipotent bastard?
>>532465957AoW has had the same independant studio for its entire series, I think
But I know for sure 4's development and release coincided with them working with Paradox to be their new publisher as of AoW 4
So that's why it has the standard Paradox DLC practices
>>532468583>AoW has had the same independant studio for its entire series, I thinkTriumph Studios.
Age of Wonders 1 was my childhood favorite game...
>>532469028With 4's success, the devs are excited as they claim to be able to keep bringing us content, already promising a third season after this
But is this cost worth it, turning into a Paradox DLC machine? They seem happy so far, haven't seen stealth cries for help, and most of the content is good enough
The previous games are still there, the series is more popular now. I play 4 but I still try to refer people to AoW1 since I also have a load of experience with that game too
WRSR's heating system makes me want to pull my hair out, doubly so on the Tundra biome. Those heat losses are just insane, large heating plant 1.2km away from the city (which used to work fine for me on normal maps) can't even heat a house right next to the exchanger which has ~78C water in the tank! I damn near bankrupted myself building the piping, too. Am I supposed to surround my city with small heating plants 400m away, or plaster modded wood heaters everywhere or something?
Also, does water temperature inside the exchanger correlate with their drain/capacity? I.e. the town in question can theoretically be supplied with 1.23 small heating pipes, so would splitting a single large pipe into a dozen or so exchangers tank my temperature or work fine?
>>532192028Literally just green-evolution Spore.
>primal elves
Sounds like a pleonasm.
Ha, yes, age of wonder, the fantasy game about being an American and blasting people.
>>532483174How else are you going to spread fantasy democracy to fantasy oil rich countries?
This game has soul. Units look good, even if I miss the little lore tidbits, but I guess we can't really afford descriptions with that "make your own civ" aspect to it.
Like, what if you make a faction of law-abiding people, considered good, but decided that rape is legal? There'd be trouble with units trying to keep peace in the streets.
That's one hell of a sword, though. I think I'd be unable to one-hand something like this IRL.
>>532469932Slowly later games just lost the original soul. It's partially of course due to graphics changed, but it is what it is.
I mostly want different things in games now anyway.
>>532484161Honestly sometimes it's for the best. I got mercilessly filtered out of AoW 3 and got constantly roflstomped into the ground, but at least with AoW 4, I can play.
I was about to bitch at the lack of undead units, but then I saw this.
It's using a dragon skull as a pincer. Fucking nice.
Unit variety feels lower than in AoW3.
Only 2 units per tier?
>>532486556Should've added that in this picture, half of the T1 units can ascend to T3 once they get enough experience.
That's why you see some of them twice.
>>532450782Goinf from AoW Shadow Magic to AoW 3 really felt like a massive let down
Having no unique units loses a lot of its appeal
Are civilian jobs the amount of "unemployed pops" you have aka people who can work if you construct a building with jobs?
I also randomly get 2, 6 and 4 unemployed worker, specialist and elite pops, fucking why?
Does it mean 200? Is it literally just 2 people?
>>532486556It has been a trend, also. I mean, I don't mind class based units, but I always liked that races had more units as well. But they also really messed up races (and probably lore) in 4th game, from what I read, so whatever.
>>532492857I mean, AoW3 had:
- race units
- leader units
- summons.
I don't know how AoW4 works so far, but the leader and race units are mixed together. Or rather, the race is just a cosmetic thing.
>>532485247Undead are implemented in weird ways this game. You got undead creatures you can build like that, but you also have basic skeletons you can raise from any humanoid enemy you kill. One cool thing is they keep their ACTUAL racial skeleton when they were alive. You can ALSO make your entire species gain the undead tag with a major transformation spell.
And next DLC will have a tome with extra undead support and references to those undead Archon units in 3. Undead titans will be back
>>532494386What are tomes? Tech progress?
I admit I don't understand anything to research in 4.
>>532489470>Are civilian jobs the amount of "unemployed pops" you have aka people who can work if you construct a building with jobs?yes, but civilians can also produce resources
>I also randomly get 2, 6 and 4 unemployed worker, specialist and elite pops, fucking why?that's just pop growth being weird, they'll demote to civilians eventually
>>532494463>they'll demote to civilians eventuallyI honestly might try and change the demotion time in my files, because it takes a fucking eternity rn and maintenance drones (gestalt civilians) are one of the two ways you get a reasonable amount of amenities.
Also there's a hive building that gives maintenance drone jobs but you can't actually prioritise them and it's fucking useless because maint jobs are completely uncapped
>>532495253you can take harmony to reduce pop demotion time, not that it really matters in 4.0. gestalts promote and demote instantly anyways
>Also there's a hive building that gives maintenance drone jobswhich building? if it's vanilla then that's an oversight
>>532494428Research in AoW 4
>knowledge resource is generated at your cities, improvements, and province buildings, it's a rarer resource but very nessecary>all automatically spent on your research>your tech tree is almost like a web, anchored around the six affinities>tomes are basically research packages to unlock, to make all the stuff inside available to research>tomes are basically centered around gimmicks and themes, they should FEEL that way at least>unlock a tome, then you start picking things inside to research, choose from 3 at a time>usually you will research 3 different items before the chance to grab a new tome is opened. Generally you always want this, as by now you hopefully got 1-2 things you REALLY wanted in that single tome, but there can be bad shuffles, or you just REALLY want everything from 1 tome>options from old tomes you haven't researched are shuffled into a growing pile that will clutter your research options>everytime you unlock a new tome, the shiny new options from that tome are HEAVILY favored to show up though, so skipped research options aren't super oppressive>you CAN reshuffle for a small mana cost at anytime>all tomes can be picked up to tier 2. Tier 3 they start having small affinity requirements, and that you research a certain number of total tomes>tier 5 tomes are exclusive to eachother. Pick one? All the others are locked. These generally have few but powerful options to round out and top off whatever terrifying combat monsters you turned your people into>everything else is open to you, provided you meet the affinity requirements and have enough research to discover them at a reasonable time>you do NOT have enough research to discover them all in a reasonable time, especially since every tome unlock increases your costs>this keeps everyone from rapidly homogenizing into the same rainbow blob by researching everything in a single matchIf that makes any sense
>>532447958gigastructures is sacred
the star trek full conversion is also good
>>532483952Reavers look pretty fucking fly. I like their aesthetic, they've got some of my favorite dress options for leaders. Plus I guess I just love the idea of shooting knights dead with guns. Magelock rifles make a pretty satisfying sound to fire
Only grievances with them
>first DLC culture, released before sub-cultures were a thing, so Reaver feel a little underdeveloped when compared to any other DLC or vanilla culture that got recent touchup>brutal conquistador and wicked terico is great looks, a bit less so when you end up being a paragon of justice. There ARE former Commonwealth characters in the game that still are arguably good guys, but the game makes them lead Reavers because they're the only gunpowder faction to help show off that they're former Commonwealth. This could be solved by giving Reavers a subculture that unlocks actual diplomacy options, maybe, iunno

>hurl my fleet into the swarm and start glassing and conquering their planets before siphoning the pops to my own worlds
>eventually my once-neighbour white peaces, I tidy up the border with fewer chokepoints to worry about before white peacing and transferring the new systems to their original owner

>>532558115What difficulty are you playing on that AI empires are actually doing stuff? On most of my runs in 4.0 they've all been absurdly passive.
>>532557159They're all fighting each other in the jungles of Southeast Asia
>>532559072what are you talking about? has the civil war in myanmar flared up again?
>>532559242Thailand and Cambodia are bombing each other
>>532558449it's on captain with the bog-standard setting beyond that; I think it's just that purifiers are given a far higher aggression than normal so they're far more active since the rest of the galaxy is mostly static. Pic Rel shows the result of devourers getting more aggression, higher priority to their fleet and the various bonus buffs they get for being a purifier empire. They're the first empire I've seen build a meaningful number of battleships and cruisers in years.
