when you press interact on a rope you are attached to it and WASD makes you swing around. to move up and down the rope i thought about using either the crouch button and jump button to ascend/descend, and then left click would make you jump off. or do you think it would be better to make it so the left and right click makes you ascend/descend and the jump key makes you jump off?

Art posting mockup because I posted earlier about this.
Lost my files for the big boob cave game, but found a gif in the archive so I restarted the idea yesterday.
The idea is a small game focused on bouncing boobs, a booblike.
The premise is Nami captured by a FUB pirate, but he doesn't want the bounty, he wants ribs, pits and tits. Lot of placeholders in picrel since I don't want to animate the enemy until I have the focus point done.
For gameplay, Nami can squirm to avoid attacks to the ribs (low) tits (mid) and pits (high).
I'm trying to be efficient and split animation into core loops, example picrel hopping up and down while being tickled is one of the loops that can play when he has latched on in an attack, another I have is her shaking side to side, and I'll do at least one more of curling down a bit.
Her "health" is worn on her face and shown in three tiers. At max health, she appears defiant and cross. At mid health, she's blushing as in picrel and laughter appears. At low health, she's laughing hysterically with tears down her face. This was easy to do with the head as a separate layer, the bikini is separate as well since that comes off to allow some more lewd behaviours.
I still need to add alot more bouncing to things like the hair, backgrounds etc.
Always appreciate feedback from art anons

Trailer also fails to make the game look exciting.
I think big part of its failure is definitely in failure to market the damn thing. Looking at youtube performance and comparing it to TCA there's a massive difference. TCA had attention a few years before it went into EA because it had the itch demo up for a long time. A quick look into google trends it's almost like nobody had heard of Thunder Helix before it went into EA. There seems to be a whole total of two reddit threads talking about the game.

Am I the only retard here who constantly struggles with space in my PC?
Often, at least once a month, I have to do file management and start deleting stuff. Reason is the large amount of courses, and references, I have saved. But, there's really nothing that beats having a course, always available, organized to which I can go back to whenever I forget/need to refresh my memory.
Also, there's the fact that half of it isn't even directly related to gamedev, so I constantly have to balance when deleting, between my actual hobbies, and this jobby.

>>531402801tried to, but the retard scammed me and it was defective, and any time it goes beyond 1.7 TB the files started to get corrupted (which I only realized weeks after), so I had to go back to my old one (the 1.81 TB).
Then I thought, I'll use the 1.8 one as my main one, and simply partially use the 4 TB (defective) one as a backup, for files here and there, but it turns out that all ports of my motherboard are defective, except the one that is already being used for the 1.81 TB one.
Unless I upgrade all of my PC, I'm stuck with what I currently have.
To be honest, currently, my biggest fear is that the harddrive gets corrupted. It's genuinely filled of things I have specifically selected because they help me specifically and my workflow, and its old, and has a bunch of courses that aren't even available in IC or CGpersia.
It's the result of half a decade of culling, and although I would be able to replicate/redownload large amounts of it, definitely a lot of useful stuff would be lost.
Currently I guess that my plan is going through some of the heaviest courses, which are easy to redownload, and deleting them. If I do that I should have at least 100 GB of free space in a couple months. The problem is that all the courses are like 50 hours long each, and they aren't really only 50 hours long, as you need to constantly pause to replicate what the guy is doing and paying attention to the inputs on screen, etc.
I've been making my way through picrelated for like 10 week, and although it has helped me A LOT into understanding ZBrush, and better workflow, just look at it, I'm still only in the second video. And I can't really 2x it, as the guy has a very heavy accent.

>>531405773>If you can't afford to by the necessary hardware to run them, then you might want to consider software with lower storage requirements. It's definitely not the program themselves that are causing the problems, they are heavy, and the files they create are too, but I've been actively deleting recovery/temporary files.
The biggest problem by far are the courses, and references themselves.
It's a 90/10 in terms of how much of the problem are the courses, and references that I'm using vs the actual files for the programs. All the programs are in my Local Disk (C:).
"D:" is exclusively courses and references.
Zbrush files/documents are actually quite light once you delete the temp files.
If I have to say the main problem, it's probably the Unreal 5 courses, as they are the heaviest, and they are absolutely necessary. Godot and Unity have way more easily, free, available resources in Youtube, however, Unreal 5 courses, that are actually good, aren't that common, and they definitely aren't in Youtube.
But everything else is the same (that being Houdini, Maya, Speedtree, etc.), since I'm completely new to a lot of the programs I can't really delete the courses.
What I'm considering doing is deleting a bunch of my art related courses that I can find in IC, but it's annoying to have to redownload everything again later, and I'm definitely at the point in which I can't really delete some of the stuff easily, it's either choosing between a topic that I haven't studied yet, but probably will in a few months vs deleting ones that I use very often, but I'm also very familiar with and remember well and hoping that if I delete them I won't need them again for a while.

The big reason that I tell people to avoid using Unreal is that it caters more to specialisation. For example, it has way better animation tools than Unity, but you best be a professional animator, because it's not gonna hold your hand with any of that shit. Meanwhile, in Unity or Godot. You can just toss some shit you found online into a timeline, and click shit until it works.
It's also way easier to get help for Unity or Godot. A hundred people have already had the same issues you're about to have in the course of their own project, and shat up every tech forum about how they troubleshot/fixed the issue. For Unreal, those things most likely happened in a big studio and were solved in house.

It's kinda too late at this point but I think I would have preferred being a sound designer instead. I keep buying sound packs on sales and imagining how cool it would be if I combined them and used them for certain things in games.
Of course I'm not going to change careers after spending 6 years programming and 2-3 years practicing 3D modeling. But you know, just some random thinking about how you can miss out on your true calling in life or real talents just for the simple reason that you never got exposed to them. (Well, even if I found it early and told mom I want to be a sound designer she would have waterboarded me until I changed my mind, but food for thought.)

but when I'm past that (so, post-dd64 I'd say) I'd be (fingers crossed) ready to start having custom assets so if you're still around during dd64 submission times I'll remember to ask in the thread for any interested 3d artists, assuming I have a successful time from now till then
>>531422601It is if you are doing a 2d game, you use win32api + directx api to create a window, or you use SDL api to create a window. okay so SDL handles the message pump big deal, win32 message pump is ez and there are a million examples. then you create video memory bitmaps to load your sprites into, sdl or dx its much the same. then you use them to create a 2d tilemap system, place objects, have animated character sprites, code object interactions, SDL vs DX is basically the same at that point. Esp. seeing as how the only useable procedural audio API in SDL is basically a copy of the waveout streaming callback thing, your code structure is much the same. I mean SDL was made by windows->linux game porters as a linux-cross-compatability layer for games that were originally written in directX so if it differed too much architecturally then they would had to have done a full engine rewrite each time. You can probably build a clone of the directX API ontop of sdl+opengl, you'd just need some kind of shader transpiler.

also, if you don't need good 3d perf you can get VMWare Workstation Pro for free from broadcom now you just have to register an email login and navigate their cancer site. and you can use steam streaming to run windows only steam games from linux without having to forward your bluetooth controllers into the VM it works great, so long as the game doesn't need 3d beyond what VMWare workstation can provide (opengl 3) with zero setup, just install steam on arch and inside windows VM, have both running and logged in, and it auto detects it and gives you a stream option where install/play usually is.

>>531427324>this is one of those guys who's gonna be making a video in a few years time about how he ruined his lifeThis is the perfect opportunity for the threadly reminder that even gamedev success can be a trap.
Imagine your game earns you 10 years of income. Would you quit your job and start making games full time? If so, you'd have fallen into the same trap I did.
The crux of the trap is the time you spend as a gamedev will count against you if ever need to get a job again. And the ironic thing is the more successful you are, the more dangerous the trap will be unless you earn enough money to never need a job again.
The only way full-time gamedev would be sustainable is if your games keep earning you at least a year of expenses for every year worked... until you're literally 75. And I do mean literally. When you're 72, you'll need to sit down and make a game that earns you 3 years of expenses. Anything short of that and you'll eventually run out of money. And when you do, you'd have been 10-15-20 years out of the job market and good luck getting a job with an employment gap that big.
When you run out of money, it can take as little as a couple of months for your life to be ruined. That's what happened to me. I found myself broke at 45 and no job for the past 15 years except making games. And I'm looking at 30 more years of having to survive. I can't get job interviews, I can't afford to keep working on games, and I'm too old to get into trades. My life is probably fucked because my first project earned me 10 years of income and I quit my job like a dumb ass.
Anyway, the point of this is to warn you: DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOBS UNLESS YOU EARNED ENOUGH MONEY TO NEVER NEED A JOB AGAIN. If my warning saves even a couple of you, it's worth it.
And remember that I'm not trying to discourage you from making your game, just from going full-time before you get fuck-you-money.
