Like I'm not gonna lie, the game's not the worst thing ever, I liked the fights, and the sprites range from okay to pretty good (for the most part, I'm looking at you section 3 overworld sprite Kris), but the writing is VERY hit and miss (with mostly misses) and then once you get to section 3 it's all over and the writing absolutely plummets into the deepest depths of hell
Obliteration is somehow worse with the writing, Susie and Noelle act like Kris (and them too, since they also kill things with Kris) killing everything is just some minor offense, like Kris is just a kleptomaniac or something instead of an actual mass murderer. like there's a point where Susie (before she and Noelle learn about the soul) in section 3 says something to Kris like "Your lucky that I don't leave because of this" and I'm just sitting at my computer like "YES, YOU SHOULD LEAVE, IF YOU WERE ACTUALLY SUSIE INSTEAD OF A SKINWALKER YOU WOULD HAVE LEFT"
Highpoint was probably the Ness and Paula fight in the Obliteration route though, I love me some edgykino every now and again and it delivered

I think FRIEND is meant to be an amalgamate of two one-eyed mirrored cats, and its nine legs are actually two sets of four legs, converging at a middle ninth (tail).
One cat has a yellow eye, and the other a pink eye. It exists in a state of superposition/Schrodinger fuckery (yellow eye is the timeline with Noelle being used in the prophecy, pink eye is the timeline where Susie takes that role).
Either whatever happens results in the timelines converging and then looping back around, or FRIEND exists in an unclear state until one of the paths is taken.

Sure, we're sent to observe Susie most of the time, but the ch1 susie vision is specifically to help her through a combat, and the ch4 vision is likely to cover for her in case she messes up the notes sidequest. The only time we get sent away like that for no direct benefit to Susie or the rest of the gang is ch2. This gives a few possible motivations for what Ralsei is setting up:

>Ralsei is aware of the mechanics but believes them to be a diegetic property of dark worlds, sending (You) away is just a means to get to Kris In the former case, we have to interpret Ralsei's overall behavior as being aimed towards (You), and that he is, by choice or circumstance, treating Kris for what they are in the prophecy: a cage with no real agency. If this is the case, his conversations are most likely aimed at bonding or consoling Kris, who he likely sees as a victim of circumstance similar to himself. Lots of cute Kralsei potential, but definitely not plot related.
In the latter case though, Ralsei would treat Kris' possession as a necessary consequence not of the game's existence, but of the prophecy. The cage being two independent heroes of the prophecy would likely be deeply concerning for Ralsei, even if it is predestined. Here, his top priority would be figuring out what our collective deal is.

I feel like Ralsei always acting every time they show a strong emotion is just too much to believe. So given that their emotions towards Susie and Kris are 'real' or real enough than that means their motivations for the look away parts are at least partially for Kris. It could be serving multiple purposes though, getting to Kris to comfort and guiding them at the same time.
Of course I don't think there's any plot divergence if you always go or always stay so it can't be too impactful. Or is all for one moment they're discussing.

As things stand, both of the above are about equally likely, but I think the latter has more interesting possibilities, so I subscribe to that one. Also UltimateSelf style meta is overdone in the schizobait genre.
A significant problem with Ralsei being wary of the cage situation is that he is, at least while Susie is around, very committed to the bit of treating (You) and Kris as the same person. Talking to Kris directly and the controller switcheroo are basically the only times that he breaks character. Even in the end of ch4 breakdown he still keeps things ambiguous even though Susie is almost certainly not paying attention.
This line of thinking actually makes that breakdown even more poignant to a point, since the two-headed hero situation might have been the thing that got Ralsei to actually believe that the prophecy was changing somehow in the first place. It's also possible that the thing Ralsei wanted to investigate about our situation might have been how far things have already deviated, if at all.

The skill with which Kris can navigate narrative shenanigans is one of the main reasons I believe we're not the first Soul that they've used like this.
Whether or not the cutscene moments are for our sake or for Kris is strictly speaking secondary, talking to Kris offscreen basically can't be for our sake. With how skip-able the moments are for the most part it's less likely to be for contingencies and more likely to be to comfort or just rizz up Kris, but 3 chapters is plenty of time for any sort of shenanigans to come though. In fact, with chapter 5 set up to have a big Ralsei character arc, we might even see the results of us not trusting him to talk to Kris as soon as next year!
