Would really like to see the removal of weapon limits. Even increasing the count would be good if constrained by controller. Four weapon limit is very possible on controller.
Tap up to switch to your up weapon, hold up to swap for your up weapon. Repeat for the other three directions.

Yeah, probably. It's such a uniquely situational weapon relative to everything else. Every other weapon in the game is designed for direct gunfights(within the intended range). But that's just how Halo is played. If you get a PR and find yourself in a lot of long range fights, it's not going to help.

Sidearms in Halo 4 is exclusively a loadout term. Nothing prevents you from swapping your Magnum for a Rocket Launcher in 4.
Allowing a player to carry a Battle Rifle, a Sniper Rifle and a Spartan Laser would be too much, imo.

Giving it a little more thought, making the third slot a dedicated weapon you can't remove could be fun. Like an SMG that isn't great at killing stuff on its own but is great for cleanup and pairing with plasma guns.
A Halo 2-esque pistol could also be fun in that slot, too. But it would make any health-damaing spray gun worthless.

All the effects in this game feel so fake. I know some weapons in these maps have custom attributes but still.

I disagree. It's slow, inaccurate, weak, and the ability to dual wield it does not come around often because it rarely spawns on maps.

The AR leading into a punch kills faster, and dual magnums already force you to be in that kind of a range because of the dual fire penalty.
Just tightening up the spread or buffing its damage a tiny bit would go a long way in making the gun not feel so shitty to use. Reach's magnum is just Halo 3's done right.

Halo 2's weapons still feel the best to use in the whole series. Better than 3's, and the map roster is also better. If you take out Halo 3's community features, 2's multiplayer is all around better.

I've used the magnum plenty, it's plain bad. I'd rather use 2's magnum because at least that can clean up an unshielded player easily by making up for its poor accuracy with a high volume of fire. There is no secret tech to learn, it's just a bad version of the carbine.

I also go kinda easy on Reach since aside from being some random prequel without MC, I understand wanting to toss in ideas for fun since it's your last chance to do so for the community. But, both in official videos before and after launch, Bungie staff were allowed to comment on how they made some pretty big fundamental changes.
Never done ranked stuff but it wasn't exactly hard to see what they meant and the negative side to it, even when playing crazy BTB CTF type modes. I'd feel the same if everyone could one day spawn with OS and Camo as a standard thing: it's fun but not worth pushing non-ability start out the window for. Just have it on the side, like other modes than majorly change the rules. There isn't even a "small, indie studio" excuse when Microsoft money is backing you.

It's important to have the correct mindset about campaign v multiplayer. That being that a true Halo game is a campaign experience first and foremost.
I'd be perfectly fine with the CE remake having firefight or some other PvE mode as its "multiplayer" offering for this reason.
Halo CE/1 had multiplayer thrown in the game in the last few months of debelopme t for the same reason any multiplayer was in a console game at the time, it was just expected to be there. The campaign WAS the game, and the multiplayer was extra. Now, it did turn out to be really good and pretty addicting, but it's important to understand that this existed in mostly a party game atmosphere. Yes, there were comp tournaments, but they are not representative of the average Halo CE multiplayer session.
Halo 2, or really rather Xbox Live, changed this, and set this unrealistic standard of Halo multiplayer being the face of the series. It was never meant to last, but it stuck, even as CoD 4 and onwards drained the popularity 3 years later.

tl;dr
A PVE-only game is sorely needed at this point to correct this wrongdoing and artificial ballooning of Halo's multiplayer to be its core identity.

Other people got to your post before I did but, I mean, we've seen what happens when your typical Microsoft higher-up meddles with things: you get 343-era. People like Ed are very rare, even though they shouldn't be.
Plus, it's the slippery slope: you let them keep going with handing out the IP you put the time into conceptualizing and you get stuff like the Halo show. It just didn't happen during Bungie's time. I get being overly cautious about having stuff messed with, or at least trying to be.
As for Ensemble, pic-related + Theater mode exists, right? File Share existed. Why would you need to go to Bungie for Halo 3 screenshots of all things? It has tools built in and daily updates of fans taking all sorts of videos and images.
Anyway, I don't expect that would-be trilogy to have been superior in terms of plot to the first, unintended trilogy. Still, it's a lot easier to keep building on top of what was there, especially since they had a lot of reputation and experience dealing with Microsoft. 343 didn't have those advantages, so it makes sense it was a lot easier to push them into strange directions.
Perhaps most significant of all is that Griesemer would've still been focused on Halo to keep the gameplay in line, rather than having to pull semi/outright double-duty between Reach and Destiny development. Reach was a weird time, in part, due to people getting power that they didn't have previously, like Marcus going from art director to full-on creative director.
He even comments in one interview that after Reach he had to try and find stuff for his team to do to help with Destiny, wherein he found he wasn't really into the idea anyway. It's partially because so many elements were thrown out with Reach, then 343 constantly tried to build around the stuff that some of the community took issue with.So it never got a proper shot again in a feature-rich Day-1 launch again and not being game devs thinking about game design all day, some just think "It went that well before it can go that well again."

Quite frankly, being able to shoot while moving at the maximum on-foot speed is superior to "me point gun down, me move forward faster". The runner-up to this is just let everyone keep firing when they press the boost button, except you get creative with each weapon and how the lower stability affects its accuracy.
So now players are still blasting away while achieving top speed, but landing your shots in the mode requires more skill. Even the people who go "but they're super soldiers" cannot deny that such people could run-and-gun despite how accuracy would decrease as speed increases (or at least rate of fire slows so their shots remain accurate).

Why did 343 force Cortana to become a terrorist? It doesn't even make any logical sense. Those other brutes had nothing to do with Atriox. It isn't bad, but it is a mixed bag.
The campaign is just ok. Meh. "Mid" might even be generous. It's 343's best stab at it but it still leaves a fuck ton to be desired.
Multiplayer plays pretty well, I won't lie, but just like with 5's mp being built around Micros, so is Infinite's mp, here in thw form of season pass bullshit and a constant store that is always staring you in the face like an ugly mole on your co-worker's face.
Aesthetically the game is also just alright. The visual art design has finally returned to something resembling true Halo, but there are issues with how glossy and standoutish all the models are. The music is again, just very "hey remember classic Halo?" and I guess it works enough.
Honestly the biggest irony is the game could have probably survived all these downsides, because like I said personal gripes aside it does play enough like a proper Halo game and at the very least is the best core multiplayer since Halo 3, but it was really a content drought that doomed it. When the game launched, it had so little. Not even a slayer playlist. They basically launched it in beta and took years to get it up to speed, and by then everyone had mostly fucked off. Because of this, it is lacking that strong Halo community angle that even 5 had for a while due to getting more frequent content drops.
If I have to give it a ranking altogether I'd say it's a 3/5 "good" but this is a seriously flawed package still.
I'm looking forward to the next game being just a campaign so it's at least one thing they can hopefully just focus on polishing.

It's decent. Not exactly faithful to the gameplay of the main games, but there was an attempt. There's a lot of Halo X in Halo Y, but it all fits pretty well. It was nice seeing the Plasma Repeater and the Focus Rifle again in something that isn't Reach.

Not being able to run and gun at full speed felt anti-ethical to what twin-stick shooters (and Halo) should be. Drones using Engineer sound effects was also REALLY annoying.

College-aged kids were not playing Halo 3: ODST over MW2 in 2009. It was my freshman year. 95% of people were playing MW2, with 4% playing W@W Zombies.
The following year in 2010 it was Reach for about a month after it came out but then quickly became like 90-10 CoD to Halo again.
If I'm being extremely optimistic I could blame some of that on Reach playing the way it did but the real truth is people just preferred the constant dopamine unlock and upgrade system CoD offered.
I don't even remember Halo 4 making a sizable splash at all in 2012. There wasn't even really a line at the local gamestop like there had been before in 2010. There were still more people I knew playing Battlefield 3 from a year earlier than Halo, and obviously 2012 is when Black Ops II came out as the final game in the CoD golden age.
I wish I had gone to college 4 years earlier. It would have been lit going in with Halo 2 and having Halo 3 come out while I'm there.
